Sipped neat with plenty of air time, this pours out heavy and oily: burnt sugar and caramel up front, then the "dirty" TDL side kicks in — glue, tar, old bicycle tube, hot engine oil. Underneath it all sits ripe tropical fruit (mango, papaya, passionfruit) and a cool menthol streak. Several tasters swear it reads like a Caroni blind. Give it 20 minutes.

WoW🤤😛😮💨! A powerful nose that reminds me of a fruity Caroni!! On the palate, the classic TDL mint comes through more and more. It’s joined by dried plum, mango, and strong mocha notes. The finish is dry, vanilla, and fruity. The mint takes over here and lingers extremely long in the mouth. The alcohol is extremely well integrated. Keep it up, Spiritori 👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻Merci!

Really great and extremely fruity TDL, probably the best 2008 so far?! Rarely have I experienced so many tropical fruits, especially passion fruit, guava, and papaya in a rum. A nice acidity like fresh passion fruit meets dark chocolate, a bit of menthol-mint, and black tea for iced tea. The alcohol is pretty well integrated and the finish is medium-long and very heavy, oily, and tannin-heavy. And the price is really more than fair! For me, so far the best of the somewhat "younger" TDLs. I would have loved to have a bottle of it.

This should be my second T.D.L 2008. The first one from Vagabond is absolutely top-notch! So the bar is set pretty high. Wow, this one is amazing. What a full-bodied start, sweet fruits, especially dark ones, practically overwhelm you. Plus a dirtiness known from Trinidad. The finish is long and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. A great rum. From the first impression a very successful bottling, great cask selection. It has everything you would expect from the 2008/2009 vintage. From memory, however, I liked the T.D.L from the Bottle Shop a little better. But a comparison is still pending.

Beautiful TDL with a fruity, caramel profile (mango, roasted apple and camelina) on the nose, but with a slightly dirty note behind the spices. This then emerges more clearly on the palate with petrol and rubber - but still very discreetly behind the beautifully fruity profile. I like it.

In my TDL 2008 crosstasting, I have the Swell, the Vagabond and the Spiritori in my glass at the same time. The rums are so similar that the round tires me a little. The Spiritori is the rum from this round with the most expressive and fruity nose, the typical spices (ginger and allspice) are there, but more restrained, but there is a stronger caramel side. The fruit is also more pronounced in the mouth than in the other two, but with a burnt profile and slightly better alcohol integration. The mango is more present, the hint of cherry from the swell is missing. The menthol burns more strongly in the finish than in the other two, but the freshness and fruit last longer. I could never tell the three apart blind, which is why they all get the same rating. Overall, the three rums are pretty much on a par with the well-known 2009s.

Still somewhat inaccessible on the nose due to the rather brute mixture of glue, spices and the typical minty TDL profile of the post-2000s era. On the palate, the picture changes for the better, of course the distillate remains demanding due to the aromatic power, but becomes much more pleasant to drink. Not on a par with the best TDLs with a minty touch, it lacks the final harmony, but in view of the price point it is a more than recommendable bottling.

You are immediately greeted with a good load of glue on the nose, plus some dirty notes, caramel, wood and spices. Fruity notes are discreetly present. In the mouth there are lots of dirty, roasted and woody aromas. This is definitely a T.D.L of the "dirty kind". I still like it - or maybe because of it! - very well. Edit: Small TDL (blind) crosstasting with various vintages: Down in 6th place: Dram Mor TDL 2007. Overall flat and boring, rather Spanish style. 5th place: FRC TDL 2002, lots of cannabis, beer and hops. You have to like it and be up for it. I liked the nose better than the palate. 4th place: FRC TDL 2009: restrained mint, lots of spices and cask influence. 3rd place: Single Cask Nation TDL 2003: Lots of mint and menthol overall, slightly floral/vegetable. Very good 2003 TDL, not quite at the same level as the Ricci in the cross-comparison. 2nd place: Spiritori TDL 2008: By far the dirtiest TDL in the tasting. Really good PLV! 1st place: Ricci TDL 2003: Mint, fruit and beautifully intense and complex.

The nose offers leather, smoke and spices, then mango, papaya, apricot, dark chocolate and dusty wood. On the palate caramel, wood, ripe fruit, menthol, spices and slight astringency. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish brings caramel, spices, yellow fruit and a hint of menthol. A good hint of dirtiness, like a Caroni. What a great rum!!!

Wow, this TDL is a real success. Blind, it could also be a Caroni on the palate. Herbs, leather and caramel on the nose. But then a full explosion on the palate. Bicycle inner tube, dirty, woody. What a great choice of cask by Spiritori.

All the bells and whistles! At a low price :) Nose: leather, smoke, spices at first, then a hint of fruit. Mango, papaya, apricot. Finally, intense dark chocolate and dusty wood. Taste: caramel, wood, very ripe fruit galore, slight chlorophyll or menthol, some spices in higher doses. Slight astringency. Very well-integrated alcohol. Finish: caramel, light spices, yellow fruit? And a hint of menthol.

First nose is very spicy. You also find white fruits like peach but above all a pastry side with a very indulgent caramel. On the palate, the 64% ABV is beautifully integrated. You then discover a profile that mixes leather, wood, and salty notes that will remind you of another distillery from Trinidad. It's really very good because it's dark but still indulgent. Coffee, nutmeg, chili, it's complex and evolving. Finish is very indulgent and long as you wish. Superb. Really superb.

#5041 11.01.2025 Enjoying a few samples at home. Nose Medium intense, wood, light roasted, light rubber, light glue, leather, banana, spice, faint chocolate. Palate Oily, balanced, wood, light glue, varnish, light rubber, banana, spice, faint caramel, light chocolate, cardamom. Finish Long, balanced, round, light leather, wood, light roasted, fruits, cardamom. The empty glass has Apple, light chocolate, spice, coconut and light polish.

A super selection of Spiritori resolutely oriented towards caramel, leather, spices, a very ripe mango josé, with a Caroniesque side on oil and tire. A fine bottle, which deserves to be aired.

This rum shows a beautiful mahogany color and I let it rest for a good half hour in the glass before tasting. The nose is very expressive on exotic fruits. There's peach, a bit of rubber, a bit of glue but different from that of a Jamaican. A hint of leather but like that of a new car. There are also freshly cut herbs mixed with garage oil. A second nose brings fragrances of baked apples. I must admit I've never had such an exotic rum under my nose. You can feel the power waiting for us, but nothing irritating either. The olfactory profile is heavy and oily. Very far from the TDLs I've tasted so far. A marked woodiness fills the nose after a while. The attack on the palate is lively and warm. Gone is the fruity side, we're on the dirty side. It can't please everyone. Especially someone used to the conventional style of a Martinique rum. The alcohol is very strong on the palate, but this mainly comes from the absence of fruitiness and a very spicy side that fills the palate, as well as the sensation of swallowing a good swig of gasoline and engine oil. I am aware that this description doesn't sound appealing, but it remains surprisingly not unpleasant at all. The leather is even more present. The background on the palate takes a strong woody note, but more like a damp crate than delicate oak. The finish takes more roasted notes with a hint of mentholated licorice. The finale is long, with a fruity return of peach syrup and varnished oak.

👃 Wow! What a nose! On one side black fruits, tropical fruits, and that note of iced peach with mint, neither too much nor too little. The fruits are caramelized, almost dehydrated, on fruity juices. A typical "dirty" veil of the iconic closed Trinidadian distillery, burnt staves, wood smoke, essence, hydrocarbons, burnt sugar, full-grain leather. 😋 Lively and intense! The herbaceous, rough aspect leaning towards medicinal herbs (weed...) mixes with peach and peppermint. Not much to add compared to the aromas on the nose, we find the empyreumatic aspect, caramelized tropical fruits, warm spices, and burnt wood, dirty, dense barrel. ⛳ Long, warm, spicy, caramelized and slightly salty, intense, concentrated, mentholated, fruity, vanilla. Then evolves towards a herbaceous, tanned, tannic finish. An excellent point. 💡A clean design serving an extremely successful cask strength selection. Bravo Jimmy Rivière 👏 Between the menthol freshness of the TDL and the dirtiness of Caroni, this is an absolute banger. Maybe it lacks a hint of complexity (I was going for an 89) but it fully deserves its 90 for all the other points described above. 🏆 For €89 per 50cl, it's one of the best quality-price ratios on the market for rums from Trinidad Distillers Limited. Of course sold out, its olfactory profile is worth some Caroni, even Velier, even looking towards the legendary 2001 vintage at TDL. In the same kind of very good TDL with excellent QPR, I recommend the 2 selections from the Up Spirits Club.

Superb discovery, I didn't know this bottler and for a first 🤩🤩 Blindly I thought a caroni. But it's nothing of the sort. This TDL is perfect for my taste, with eucalyptus present but very discreet compared to usual. Beautiful notes of fruit, caramel, leather and spices and a lovely explosion on the palate 😍😍 More than honorable length, very very good juice 🤩😍

Dense TDL nose. Relatively thick and oily on the palate, lots of caramel but also some mint, great balance. The finish is medium long. No surprises here, just a really successful, well-rounded TDL. Great bottling.

This TDL was recommended to me because it's apparently very similar to Caroni. On the nose, I'm greeted by a warm, spicy caramel, which quickly gives way to a flurry of other aromas. There are vegetal and medicinal notes, but not unpleasantly so. Returning to it after a short pause, I then have the dirty notes of tar and smoke typical of the style. On the first palate, the caramel appears and immediately dissipates, giving way to heavy woody and dirty notes, this time with notes of burnt rubber. There's relatively little bitterness, unlike other TDLs I've tried. On the second palate, I have caramel-soaked mango and old bicycle tire that arrive simultaneously. There's a kind of subtle black fruit in the background, almost imperceptibly. The finish is long, with leather and woody notes, but still without a strong bitterness like I've experienced with other TDLs, which I didn't like. As time passes, the leather and spice notes remain in the empty glass. In conclusion, this is an excellent rum; I think it's well worth the price. It's both complex and surprisingly warm; I highly recommend it.

Fruity and floral nose, strong body with caramel and soft leather. Very concentrated alcohol. Too strong for me but well integrated. Taste is however amazing like a garden. EDIT tasted again and let it rested for a while, much better, more rounded, less aggresive for me. Rating bit higher now. Update: retasting, increasing my score, I like this bottling!

A TDL given the price and quality it has! A good 2008. Nose: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Burnt caramel, smoky, charred, black fruits (blackcurrant), some red and tropical fruits (mango, coconut). Citrus (blood orange). Cinnamon and clove, vanilla. Update 15/11/2024, after 4 days, the rum has oxygenated and on the nose, the red fruits (strawberry and blackcurrant) and apple stand out very well! A delight on the nose! Palate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Caramel, black and red fruits. Lots of coconut (Bourbon barrel). Passion fruit. Metallic and smoky, chili and pepper, coffee, mocha. Very woody and dusty (astringent and drying). Finish: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Good length! Dark, dark chocolate, woody, coconut (American white oak, Bourbon), burnt sugar, caramelized. Drying (wood dust).

Honestly, who the hell brought the flavor "bicycle tube" into play. Is that a new inner tube, used, what size? Down-to-earth TDL...but you definitely have to let it stand for 20 minutes otherwise the alcohol will overwhelm you. Herbal, roasted, wood, simply delicious. But still a little too "spicy"....

My first and only 2008 TDL. The nose is great, maybe a bit reserved. Very fruity, winter spices, caramel and herbs and light mint. Wow, taste-wise a real blockbuster.😋👍🏻 Lots of sweet caramel, light menthol, fruity, maybe towards dark berries and red fruits, slightly dirty and then a spice I can't guess. Definitely damn cool stuff, doesn't have to hide behind the 2001s.

Barely poured, a strange note of ether, which fortunately passed very quickly. Then yellow fruit and a nice smoke screen. Smells like a good heavy tdl. On the palate, it's top-notch with the fruit, the omnipresent smoke, without it overpowering the other markers. Also a dirty edge and a bit of rubber. Nice, long finish. + 0.3 points for top value for money.

UFO alert Smoky notes are initially perceptible, followed by burnt sugar and a few hints of fruit. The whole is rather heavy, which is not unpleasant, On the palate, the dirty side dominates over the fruit: garage, inner tube, petrol on a warm palate all the same, Some yellow fruits appear in second place: papaya guava? I really like this carony touch.

This is very, very good. Minty/eucalyptus nose with a craggy/garage feel, red fruits. The palate is concentrated, with a blend of eucalyptus and peach. The finish is more fruit, peach and woody.

A powerful complex nose that partly suggests chocolate and caramel but with that rubbery side of Caroni! There's also smoke and a bit of menthol. On the palate leather and smoke quickly give way to a very nice fruitiness. The finish is long and fresh! An excellent bottle and at this price it's perfect!

Let it air for at least 20 minutes before tasting, the nose is very smoky and oily, on dry peat. Roasted tropical fruits and hot tar come on the palate with a very dry and mentholated length. I really enjoyed it!!

Very good TDL, nice cask selection. Extremely fruity, mint comes on the finish. The alcohol is rather well integrated, the fruits become more and more present during aeration. The bottle was new, will taste again in a little while.
