The first surprise is that this doesn't taste like you'd expect from a Ron — one taster admitted he "wouldn't have bet on a Ron" tasting blind. It leans floral and gourmand: vanilla, ground coffee, burnt sugar and dark chocolate, with a chili-tinged bite. At 65% cask strength the alcohol pokes through, and the finish runs short for many. A few pinned it to Belize rather than El Salvador.

The Ron Regular from Spirit Gallery seems more approachable to me than its "heavy" brother. I found it more pleasant. On the nose, vanilla and coffee notes dominate. On the palate, vanilla, spices and burnt sugar come forward. The fairly long and pleasant finish is sweet and distinctly caramel.

23.06.2025 Retasting and I still like it. --------------- #5101 Sunday - The last shots before our partners are picking us up 😊 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Light to medium dark. Nose Light wood, fruits, light coconut, faint caramel, light coffee, light dried fruit. Palate Round, naturally sweet, light coconut, light caramel, light wood, light burnt, light citrus, faint coffee. Finish Medium to long, faint pineapple, light citrus, faint coffee, light caramel, light wood, light burnt. Empty glass Light chocolate, dried fruits, light coffee, vanilla.

A proper release from Spirit Gallery. This "secret regular" is not particularly complex, but still quite tasty. Vanilla, candied light fruits and burnt sugar dominate. the finish is unfortunately very short.

A real surprise in the glass, I'm not familiar with Belize, but since I've only had two rums from Belize in my glass, I would also assign this rum to Belize. Definitely typical Central American aromas, but there's more. At the olfactory table I immediately think of spring, this rum is very refreshing and floral. These floral notes are also reflected on the palate. Very exciting....

I can't really categorize this bottling. On the nose, I primarily perceive sweet, floral aromas. On the palate, a heavy sweetness at first, which is replaced by a strong herbal presence. Allspice is also present. The finish is relatively short.

Tasted the first one as a sample, I have both versions. The nose doesn't make me think of a rum, it's mostly floral and toffee. The entry on the palate is pleasantly syrupy with notes of Belize. But the alcohol and chili quickly take over, leaving a numbness sensation. A shame because there were interesting things.

EDIT: the alcohol carries well but it remains a bit short in the mouth. Now here we start something interesting. From afar the nose is very indulgent, but the alcohol rises a bit in the glass. We have coffee caramel, a bit of vanilla, some fruits on top, it's complex even if a bit dry. Average finish. Cold; I wouldn't have guessed a RON. Good surprise!

Oh, quite decent rum for a Monday evening. Nothing for special occasions, of course. For me, bitterness and spiciness dominate, but not unpleasantly so. I really like the overlong, strong finish.

Surprisingly balanced and easy-drinking for 65% and only 11 years. Would guess Belize, but also reminds me of Antigua and Belize. I especially like this chili - dark chocolate - caramel combo that runs from nose to finish. For the price a cool combo with 110€ for a liter single cask... My guess after direct comparison of both remains Belize!😀🇧🇿

Well, it's nice to have tried this rum, but it really doesn't knock my socks off. I can't really classify where it might come from. All I know is that I don't really like it, not even with cola, which is a must. The price is probably ok.

A surprising nose: on ground coffee, very fresh, herbal with lots of spices and a hint of honey and vanilla. A very powerful palate, on mocha, cocoa, spices and citrus with bitterness and salinity at the end of the mouth. Nice selection! Surprising when you know it's a Ron!

The Secret Regular bottling is at least better than the Secret Heavy bottling. The alcoholic notes are significantly less. Profile-wise they remain similar. Here vanilla comes through and a more intense (artificial) fruit note.

The 'regular' from the Ron duo (same distillery). On the nose, quite alcohol-pungent. After longer standing time, you get coconut, vanilla, and something hard to define, floral-sweetish. On the palate, spicy, coffee, caramel but here too the high ABV overdrives the whole thing into sharp edges. Let's see if the 'heavy' is better... at least in the set with the outstanding TDL, a fair price.

Nose: pineapple, coconut, coffee beans, some dark chocolate, needs a moment. Palate: vanilla sweetness, pineapple, coconut, slightly salty dark chocolate, wood, quite strong at times, but pleasantly warm finish, medium length.

Reminds me of the RX19558 from the nose and also on the palate, alcoholic and little depth. Therefore gets the same rating. You don't need it. Edit: I disposed of the rest of the sample in cola, where it works a little better than the RX19558, hence the slightly better rating.

Let’s not lie, it’s not the rum of the century, but it’s not bad either. There’s a little spicy side that can seem quite strong at first, but in the end it harmonizes well with the whole. There are nice notes of fruit, caramel, coffee, vanilla.. A bit wild, but with some aeration it goes well.

🥃 The Duo Ron El Salvador 2013 – 11 years – 65% Two bottlings. One same distillery. One same aging: 11 years 100% tropical in ex-Jack Daniel’s casks. One same cask strength bottling at 65%. 👉 The only difference? The distillation strength. Ron Regular (distilled at 94%): more marked by the cask, notes of vanilla, coffee, brown sugar… an accessible profile but a bit short in length. Heavy Ron (distilled at 74%): richer in aromatic compounds from fermentation. More animal, more atypical profile… clearly divisive. A fascinating doublet from an educational point of view — perfect to understand the impact of distillation parameters — but it didn’t fully convince on pure pleasure. 💡 Highlight of the evening: blending the two batches, as Benjamin suggested. A playful, participative exercise… and an unequivocal verdict: the blend surpasses each version tasted separately. More balance, more complexity. A real revelation!

On the nose it's relatively gourmand, caramel, yellow fruits, pineapple, slightly reminds me of a young Belize. The alcohol is a bit sharp. On the palate the fruits are still present, with a hint of vanilla, it's quite dry, but something doesn't convince me, a slightly metallic side. The finish is very short. Maybe simply Salvador is not my type of rum. In any case, for the price, it's a good entry into the world of unadulterated rums.

The nose is very sweet. The palate is oily, creamy, sweet. The finish is longer and more intense than expected. It ends on burnt caramel, a bit bitter but not unpleasant yet. I prefer it to its brother but I will try mixing them to see.
