Spirit Gallery T.D.L Trinidad 2003
Poured neat into a tasting glass, this is a menthol-and-blackcurrant TDL through and through. Mint, eucalyptus and Vicks-style freshness lead, then cassis, red fruit, iced peach tea and a light dirty rubber note underneath. The 60% is mostly well woven in, though a few tasters wish it were oilier. Dry, tannic, herbaceous finish that goes on and on.
The community says- Huge menthol freshness
- Cassis and red fruit

Intense mint-menthol TDL over cassis Nearly everyone loved it — one of the best 2003 TDLs many have tried. A mint-menthol bomb over cassis and red fruit. A couple found the mint too dominant or wished for more body.

Fantastic 2003 TDL! It brings absolutely everything I expect from a good TDL. Mint, menthol, and eucalyptus that freshen up the whole mouth without being one-dimensional or too intense are accompanied by red fruits like cassis, dark juicy blackberries, red and black currants like in red fruit jelly. Orange peel adds warmth and freshness. In the finish, there’s also peach and passion fruit, as well as lychees like in an awesome homemade iced tea based on strong black tea, plus endless menthol and eucalyptus and a hint of burnt caramel... Alcohol perfectly integrated. Amazing bottling!! 🇹🇹🐢

Sensational TDL. Typical notes you expect from newer TDLs, after 2000. In addition to the "usual" like mint/menthol and tropical fruits, I find a bit of cassis/blackcurrant here, which I really like. Rightly in the list of top bottlings 2023 (RumX evaluation).
Review by Jakob
Impressive notes of cassis, plus the expected intense mint-menthol profile paired with spicy-woody barrel influences, which tend to act in the background - aromatically without the big fireworks, because the fruitiness is very much dominated by the blackcurrant, as mentioned, but that doesn't make the rum any less fascinating. Great, pronounced aromas, wonderfully round and oily mouthfeel - I like it very much.

After I tasted the rum solo yesterday and was quite impressed by it, it has to go up against another 2003 today: my choice is the CdI Caksus (RX11936), which I gave a whopping 89 points to back then. And what can I say: it has a really hard time against this brand new TDL from the still very unknown Bottler Spirit Gallery! If one is ahead on the nose and then the other 😉, although neither of them is yet highly recommended, but rather greets you shyly with slightly alcoholic vapors, the heavyweight from Spirit Gallery turns up the heat on the palate and literally pushes the Caksus against the wall. To put it plainly: the CdI Caksus gets the maximum palatable flavors out of the 56.3%, especially menthol, while the Spirit Gallery, by virtue of its (fairly well integrated) 60%, mainly presses a huge spice onto the palate (menthol plays a rather subordinate role). Conclusion: The Caksus TDL is more the light-footed, good-humored lightweight boxer who plays at the top of his class, while the Spirit Gallery TDL is the impetuous, somewhat fierce heavyweight boxer at the beginning of his career, who can hardly walk with power, but already has a lot of potential. A somewhat unequal fight, which fortunately still ends in a draw.

Edit: TDL battle! For me, the best of the lot. The nose is from another world, with lots of fuits, menthol, spices, yellow and red fruits, notably blackcurrant and dried apricots. The palate follows with lots of fruit, and a tea-bag background. Mint turns to chlorophyll and eucalyptus. The finish is endless. In short, my best TDL to date, powerful and complex.
Review by Thunderbird
This is a high-end TDL... it combines all the good flavors of mint, menthol, fruits, spices, herbs and sweetness. For me, it's comparable to the Rasta Morris... only one small drawback: the alcohol could be a little better integrated. But that only makes a small difference
Review by SaibotZtar
WOW ... Wonderful noses black currant, mint, eucalyptus honey ... very tasty . On the palate similar game the red fruits dominate at first... then mint and eucalyptus come through nicely . Really good 2003 👍
Review by mto75
It takes a while for everything to unfold on the nose, then I have yellow and red fruits, dirty notes, caramel. The freshness is also there, but not as dominant as in the RA 2001, for example. Fruity, dirty on the palate, menthol at the back, tannins/barrel. Very long, never-ending finish. An excellent TDL! Amazing that such a young IB could track down such a pearl!

9,1:On the nose, the first impression is really great, round and balanced with menthol, roasted wood notes like nuts, caramel, dirty, fruity with blackcurrant, berries and pineapple, herbaceous, flowery with an elderflower and grassy molasses. On aeration tobacco, honey pop up, fresh, minty notes, red, dried and citrus fruits, dark chocolate and vanilla, some tar. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is balanced with fruits like blackcurrant, dried fruits with raisins, apricots, when rested with yellow, tropical fruits like pineapple, maracuja and citrus with lemon grass, then menthol and fresh, herbaceous, flowery, minty molasses with honey, roasted wood with caramel, nuts and spicy. Later we might find tobacco, eucalyptus and some tar. 9:The finish is dry and tannic, a bit smoky, most of the palate notes lingering on, we could also catch some sour cherry, passion fruit and hints of crunchy bread... Edit:29.11.25, oxidation does miracles, an upgrade 0,2

Super nose! Very fresh, tar, dry, fruits and spicy. On the palate then very strong, spicy, slightly furry, caramel and concentrated herbs. Caramel and herbs on the finish. A powerhouse from Trinidad with a super interesting nose.🤩 Thanks to Bonn!🙏
Review by Fred Tillac
👃 The nose is taken by spice, oak, red fruit, mint and caramel. 👄 The palate offers even more spice, tropical fruit. It's fat and very empyreumatic. The alcohol is quite present, well integrated and this juice easily supports being aerated.
Review by Basti
The nose unmistakably minty, but also quite a bit of spices, wood, caramel, and some fruity notes. On the palate then nicely intense with a good portion of mint, but also fruit (berries), slightly astringent. Very good 2003 TDL!! Edit: Holds up very well compared to other 2003 TDLs!
Review by Schnubbii
Very tasty and rounded TDL with the typical aromas of yellow fruits and mint, but for my taste it could bring a bit more mint/herbal notes. Edit: Tasted again against RX17301, which for my taste is just a bit rounder and offers a better balance of herbal notes to yellow fruits, plus for my taste the alcohol is a bit better integrated there. Nevertheless, for me both are top bottlings. Retasting the rest of the sample: Yes, damn good, raised to 9.0 again. For me personally not THE best TDL 2003, but still among the very best.
Review by Johannes
Once again a very good, typical representative of the TDL of the 2003 vintage with the classic clear minty notes.
Review by Julien Ries
It would have deserved more time in the glass to fully express itself. 21 years of ageing takes time to stretch! But I had already tasted it a month ago. On the nose, an explosion of red fruits (blackcurrants in particular), more vegetal notes (eucalyptus, mint), and a discreet whiff of garage. On the palate, a complexity of blackcurrant, mint, cut grass and spices. A slight woodiness is transparent. Great art! An interminable finish of gourmet fruit.

#6753 06.05.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after picking up my wife from work. Watching the latest episode of Gold Rush on Max. When looking at the price tag you get a lot for your money in my mind. A minty abd well balanced rum with nice fruits, herbs, wood and a light floral touch.

Wow! What a discovery, a magnificent find for a very reasonable price. I love the TDLs and here I am fulfilled, it has everything I like. On the nose there's a spicy mix of red fruits, exotic wood, burnt sugar, a touch of strawberry. It's quite heavy! On the palate the alcohol goes down well. You still have the blackcurrant but complemented by a nice menthol/chlorophyll freshness. A beautiful woody fresh length and liveliness with a quinine side. From start to finish, a true pleasure!

In the test WDC, RC(Edt.52?), Hunter Laing and the one from Spirit Gallery. The differences are clearly recognizable, the WDC and RC are more on the Spanish chocolate side, whereas the SG and HL are the absolute minty alcohol bombs. There's a bit too much mint in both for me, which overpowers almost everything. Sorry, it's a little too much for me. But it's a matter of taste, unfortunately not mine. Otherwise they are all good bottlings, although I would put the WDC and RC more in the easy sipping category.

Mint essence! Insanely intense. Exceptionally good T.D.L.
Review by Master P
A typical TDL of the 2003 vintage, tending towards a mix of red fruits and freshness. On the palate it almost reminds of an old Cognac Borderies, with a slight dirty note that reminds you that we are in Trinidad. I am very glad I could try this bottling, which obviously pleased the vast majority of those who tried it.
Review by TheJona'Spirits
👃 All kinds of lively variations around mint; eucalyptus, peppermint, Vicks VapoRub. A characteristic combination of icy and mentholated peach. It's herbal on meadow herbs with dew, and I find the typical smell of smoking herb. A dry fruitiness, on blackcurrant buds, red and black berries, prickly pear. It evolves towards candied mango and pineapple jam. Nice caramel on crème brûlée. The oak is toasted and delivers slight petrol and tar notes. An excellent nose you could stay with for hours. 😋 Literally peach iced tea 🤯 Camphor bomb, menthol, eucalyptus. Still herbal, on tobacco, weed seeds, green tea. Then tropical fruits, slightly tangy. A gourmand trio of oak spices, bitter dark chocolate, and burnt caramel. The dirty aspect of the nose is less present. Oily, lively, warm, fruity consistency. ⛳ Long, spicy, warm, bitter, herbal. Flavor of jammy fruits, caramel of fruit juices. Fresh mint evolves long towards tea and tobacco. 💡 Intense, sufficiently complex, and a nice balance of aromas. For me one of the best representatives of the 2003 vintage that combines typically fruity and mentholated aromas with a darker and dirty aspect of the 2001s.

A fabulous nose of red fruits, pineapple, menthol, and spices. A very salty side comes through but it doesn't take over! This nose is also floral, with a hint of lavender. No doubt, this is definitely a TDL! A palate to match the nose, wonderful. Everything blends: menthol, blackcurrant, dark chocolate with controlled bitterness, a very roasted side and a hint of citrus at the end. This bottle is really incredible, an extremely balanced TDL, with a beautiful length and superb power. Magnificent selection from Spirit Gallery, one of the best TDLs I've ever had!
Review by TheRhumhoe
A rum that was acclaimed by critics and you quickly understand why. The nose is a bouquet of aromas: a big dose of red and black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberries, cherry) evolving towards a more tropical fruitiness (pineapple), a menthol slap with beautiful notes of eucalyptus, tobacco and medicinal herbs but also an unexpected dirtiness that goes towards rubber and which is reminiscent of a certain defunct distillery, it's absolutely delicious. Everything is elegant, harmonious, softened by a hint of caramel, sweet spices (vanilla, chili) and perfectly blended wood for its age. Masterful! The palate is a true festival, a bottling that is gripping, surprising in its complexity and intensity. The menthol, medicinal herbs (eucalyptus) and fresh tobacco meet peach tea, black fruits (blackcurrant, berries), red (currant) and tropical (pineapple) fruits in a sensory artifice. The dirtiness plays the troublemaker with grimy rubber, to which camphor wood and spices are added to enhance the profile. We are almost halfway between a TDL 2001 and 2003. The blend is captivating, tasty and with perfectly integrated alcohol. The finish is very, very long, with herbal bitterness on the tea, menthol freshness but also quite a few spices and more empyreumatic notes (roasted wood, dirt). The profile is drier but no less superb with beautiful fruity fragrances on blackcurrant, peach, dried and exotic fruits. Undoubtedly a banger for fans of the genre, a reference that makes the reputation of this young French bottler on the rise.

Very nice TDL from a new bottler. Took a mini sip when bottling. The nose is immediately filled with red fruits. Mint, of course, but also some rubber, bicycle inner tube and caramel. The whole thing continues well in the mouth. Red fruits, fruit tea, tobacco, spice and caramel. Some mint is always there. Pleasant spice and chocolate on the finish. The mint lingers long in the finish. Almost no alcohol noticeable. Very nice bottling!
Review by Gregor
Nose: a little salty, herbs, mint also some oily tool, fern-grass, nice! Palate: mint, some honey, lemon, cashew nut, tool, salty finish, pleasant warmth. Very good, perhaps a little too metallic - salty
Review by kondgab
It was a standout for me last year—an exceptional 2003 TDL. The nose reveals mint, eucalyptus, and menthol, while the palate showcases red fruits like blackcurrant. The finish brings a hint of tea. Looking forward to more great releases from them.

The weekend Bottle Kill that hits hard: Spirit Gallery Trinidad 2003 Spirit Gallery, a young independent French bottler, has recently made a name for itself on the rum scene. After a first bottling in 2023 that was a bit too powerful for my taste — a Belize 2007 at 70.3% — this new release is for me a real crush of 2024! Trinidad 2003: Caroni? Well no! It is obviously not a Caroni, but a vintage distilled at TDL (Trinidad Distillers Limited). To date, TDL is the only rum distillery still operating in Trinidad, mainly producing Angostura rum. However, it will remain long (or perhaps always) in the shadow of the legendary Caroni. This molasses rum was column distilled at TDL in 2003. It patiently aged for 21 years, including nearly 16 years in tropical climate, before being bottled in 2024 as cask strength (BDF) at 60%, in only 369 copies of 50 cl. Tasting notes Nose: Fruity and gourmand, with aromas of citrus, passion fruit and fruit syrup, accompanied by notes of burnt sugar and mint. Palate: Even more expressive than the nose, with a marriage of mint, fruits and smoky touches. Finish: Long and marked by intense mint. Personally, I loved this bottling, like most of the TDL 2003!
Review by Mentalo
In my eyes a top TDL. Very well balanced. (Black) currants, menthol, mint, some wood. All aromas come out wonderfully, but as almost always with TDL the alcohol is not particularly well integrated. After some time in the glass it delivers though.
Review by John Coffey
Great mastery with the integration of the alcohol... a bouquet of fruits and an incredible length... it has everything you expect from a TDL juice.
Review by Barnagricole
Very beautiful complexity. Journey between red and tropical fruits that darkens over the tasting to give way to wood and hydrocarbons/rubber.
Review by Alexander Rasch
Wow... TDL in perfection? The nose has nice red fruits and lightly nicely integrated mint. Somewhat cold but at the same time with herbs. On the palate the rum explodes. The mint is fantastically integrated with eucalyptus, honey, red fruits and herbs. Like a menthol-herbal candy. The rum reacts incredibly intensely to breathing and changes. The finish is long, dry and intense. I take my hat off. Fantastic cask selection.
Review by Mc Pirate
Gorgeous, brilliant mahogany color. Impressive nose of gourmand Moroccan mint. Complex blackcurrant and red fruit, animal but not too much, bordering on grenadine. The palate is frankly and freshly marked with mint and Italian grapes. I'm overwhelmed! The minty finish goes on and on to delight the taste buds!
Review by Arnaud Faverjon
Very weed-forward, a bit of blackcurrant but not too much, rubber, excellent!
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Great balance, great release
Review by Thomas Kindmann
Excellent Tdl with menthol-eucalyptus/cassis markers pushed to the max, the nose is magnificently balanced between the classic menthol/cassis framework, tropical fruits, a nice woodiness, spices, a little weed vibe and a salted butter caramel, then a slight 'salty' side without any alcohol aggressiveness. The palate continues the nose with lots of fruit, the woodiness is quite discreet given the age, almost an iced peach tea. The finish is very long, carried by menthol freshness.
Review by Beewithme
One year after my first review back in the glass... and still absolutely insane. Really awesome 2003 TDL mint rocket.
Review by Pavel Ungr, RumRock
Vintage 2003. With 8.8 out of 10, it belongs to the better ones I've had in my glass.
Review by Jacques etdom
Intense nose very focused on blackcurrant, then come menthol and an iced tea side typical of some TDLs. On the palate, the previous markers are still there. Some spices add up. It's quite dry, with a slight bitterness. Medium-long finish. Very good 2003, could have gained some points if it had been a bit fattier on the palate.
Review by Vidaa Wz
Pleasant, mentholated nose, classic of a 2003 tdl, with a not unpleasant herbal, even soapy side, A few notes of red fruit follow. The palate is lively with mentholated red fruits, the alcohol is present, perhaps a little too much? The finish is dry and woody, and I would have preferred a little more sweetness.
Review by ElReyTristan
Interesting nose on tart red fruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, on the palate the very tart red fruit framework persists. A bit more mentholated, a bit warmer. Nice length on the finish.
Review by DeMaddin
Blackcurrant, mint, menthol, wonderfully integrated with tropical fruits and wood, from the nose, over the palate, to the finish, great 2003 T.D.L.

An EXCELLENT tdl featuring all the markers I've been waiting for. Go for it, because success is guaranteed with this selection.
Review by Alex Prz
Incredible! Length and intensity on the palate
Review by Frederik
At first, fresh notes of mint and blackcurrant on the nose, with some air caramel honey notes join in. The 60 vol.% leads to a slight but by no means unpleasant tingling in the nose. On the palate, a cozy menthol warmth spreads with aromas of blackcurrant, light spices, and honey. The endless finish leaves a wonderful menthol freshness, with a feeling of tannins from the blackcurrant.
Review by BenG
A typical TDL of the 2003 vintage that tends towards a mix of red fruits and freshness. Almost close to an old Borderies cognac on the palate, with a slight dirty side to remind us that we are indeed in Trinidad. Very happy to have been able to make this bottling which obviously pleased the vast majority of those who tasted it.
Review by Gregory Montagnier
Awesome!!! Part of my top 3 TDLs tasted, very well balanced with all the expected cues.

This is really something special. Best rum i've tried so far
Review by Martin Švojgr
Tobacco mint taste. Large sedimentation of the cask residue in the sample.
Review by Alex1981
Super TDL with great menthol notes. Very intense from nose to finish, not very exciting but completely flawless. You could accuse the rum of being one-dimensional, but it just does too many things right for that.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Mint menthol right in your face. Not subtle, but awesome. Super intense. I like it.
