Vanilla, coconut and caramel up front, then oak, dark chocolate and a little clove and pepper into a medium finish. This is the classic Bajan profile — round and easy, with the three casks (bourbon, whiskey, cognac) adding a bit of extra depth. Most call it a "daily sipper" that never surprises. A few wish it went deeper for a 17-year label.

Super "daily" sipper! Even after several years, this rum remains one of my favorite standard releases. The Mount Gay profile with the Cognac cask harmonizes perfectly. Vanilla, chocolate, spices, and a bit of fruitiness.

There is not a ton to say about this rum, it is solidly execute with classic caramel, vanilla, and oak notes throughout. There is a lot of coconut on the nose, and the finish is fairly short. A solid expression that doesn’t stand out.

31.08.2025 Retasting at the German Rum Fest 2025. ------------- Whisky & Rom Festival 2023 28.10.2023 Another retaste and it still performs pretty well. Price to quality is pretty good. ------------------------- This is a very nice and easy sipping rum from Mount Gay. A typical Bajan rum in nose and palate. The nose is elegant with spice, a bit of orange and charred barrel. The palate starts off with a bit of sweetness, spicy and a bit dry. There is some leather and earthyness to it as well. The finish is medium long, dry and with charred oak and ginger. Again a tiny bit of earthyness on the way out.

One of my absolute favorites. Insanely vanilla-like fragrance, balanced almond-marzipan aromas, floral. Overall light to medium-bodied, wonderfully deep and sufficiently complex. Absolutely worth the price.

A top Barbados rum and a classic among the unsweetened rums. Great aromas that are familiar from Barbados and which are enhanced by the different barrels. Rather on the dry side, but with a pleasant sweetness at first.

Tasted this rum at my recent visit to the distillery. It’s a blend of molasses based Column Still rum and Copper Double Retort Pot Still rum. It’s aged between 5 and 17 years in 3 types of casks, American whiskey, bourbon and cognac casks which gives it an interesting complex and aromatic profile. The nose is round, balanced, dry, woody, fruity and spicy with scents of oak, pineapple, and vanilla. At the palate it’s round, smooth, creamy, salty, woody, fruity and spicy with flavors of oak, banana, figs, cloves, caramel and dark chocolate. The finish is rather long.

My first rum from Mount Gay. I find the smell very pleasant with vanilla, nice warm woody notes, subtle coconut. At the same time fresh and a bit fruity. Taste-wise then vanilla with spices and woody notes, ending with coconut. A great rum.

8:The nose of this Barbados rum is all balance and sweetness. Coconut enters first, followed by the tobacco of a mild cigar. There's thickness. One thinks of a butterscotch or a vanilla crème brûlée. The coconut is always at the fore front, mixed with vanilla and caramel, slightly warmed and lightly toasted. The fruit is also worked on: the banana is cooked and the mango stewed.There's more power on aering , it is less buttery, but not boring. Now it's the more vegetal(celery), woody side of coconut that comes through, mixed with almond. In this more refreshing dynamic, we return to fresh fruit with more acidity. 8:The palate is not overly sweet, and this is a rum with character. A hint of mango pulp initiates a smooth mid-palate, with full-bodied tobacco and butterscotch. The rum is full-bodied and never alcoholic, Nose=palate, with added peaches, orange peel and prunes. 7,5:The finish melts like butter. A caramelized woodiness remain, with dried fruits, a sign of fine maturity, it comes a bit dry. Edit:20.3.26

First tasting at the RhumFest 2022, much better than the Black Barrel tasted just before. Edit: The barrel is very present and gives punch to this very syrupy and vanilla rum. It's got some punch despite the reduction. Not the style of rum I enjoy most but the tasting was not unpleasant and I enjoy coming back to it as my daily rum.

Notes taken at Rhum Fest 2024, Quick notes and a bit heavy palate, sorry :) Here we have: a little more complexity than on the black barrel Rum: round, vanilla, but with a little oak, light spice, a little cognac. Finish: nice, very round once again. A good entry-level rum, you might say!

A Mount Gay that has benefited from a triple aging in different barrels. The nose releases the typical Barbados aromas, with caramel, sweet spices, a little coconut, chocolate and a woodiness quite present on the olfactory level. The palate reminds of pepper, dark chocolate, oak and a touch of cognac from one of the three finishes. The finish is quite closed, smoky and warm with notes of tobacco, oak and dark chocolate. A rather one-dimensional rum, which we could expect more in terms of complexity with the atypical aging.

A nose of vanilla and wood, then coconut and other tropical fruits. The alcohol stings a bit despite the 43%. The palate is warm with vanilla fruits and a creamy side. The finish is short and mainly on caramel. A rum of pleasure, well made and pleasant. But for a tasting, it lacks balance and deep, complex aromas. But for the price you can't ask for that. Empty glass, like a green curry nose.

The in-thing of the daily sipper. Delicious, round! Lovely caramel and toffee notes, light wood. Gentle finish. If you don't like it, you don't like rum in general, I'd say. Good value for money

A pleasant, warm Barbados rum. Nice notes of vanilla and pineapple on the nose. On the tongue, at first a lovely caramel sweetness that leads into strong oak notes with a bit of cognac influence. A soft, full mouthfeel. A long, smooth finish with notes of clove and very dark chocolate.

The rum that many swear by as a daily sipper. On the nose, we've got plenty of Barbados vibes: coconut, vanilla, caramel, and wood. On the palate, it's more spicy with the well-known notes of caramel and vanilla. The finish is a bit smoky, tobacco-like. Not bad at all, but I expected way more from it.

A very smooth rum (maybe a bit too much) and easy to drink. You can feel a slight touch of vanilla and caramel on the palate. The finish is a bit short and leaves us wanting more. Still, this rum offers good value for money.

I really have to straighten out my opinion and have raised the rating significantly. It tastes nicely dense and reminds me of liquid Christmas cookies / speculoos with fig. It has a medium finish and isn't insanely complex, but at the end of a long day it's very drinkable and fitting (for the price).

Still a nice rum the Mount Gay XO, now as a Triple Cask Blend in the subtitle. Compared to its direct predecessor perhaps a bit rounder, but a little less flavor diversity. The proportion of rum aged in cognac barrels in this blend is somewhat higher than before. Nevertheless, the majority of the rating corresponds to that of the Mount Gay XO Reserve Cask.

An experience. It's surprisingly balanced, it smells great, I almost don't feel the alcohol, there are so many flavors in the sip, I don't even feel half of them, I also read the marketing gimmick about what you should feel, it's all there. It is complex, the sip is great, the finish is long, the only problem with it is that the bottle runs out quickly. It's a basic item in my collection, if it runs out, I'll order the next one. It will also have the same problem that it drains quickly. Absolutely recommended!

Good rum for beginners, very coconut and coffee oriented in the nose, in the mouth and in the end. Also very round, really good to start discovering the world of barbados.... But will not be complex enough for experienced people.

This rum was a bit of a let down for me,unfortunately. I quite liked the bajan rums that I tried before and was expecting this to be remarkable. I remember trying the old Mount Gay XO like 10 years ago and liking It, but there was too much rum that night, so I wanted to revisit It. Athought this was a new blend I had high hopes, but they went away as soon as I had the first sip. Don't get me wrong, of course it was a nice and smooth drink, but It was lacking flavour and depth for a rum of this price. I have no problem with smooth and easy sippers (I quite like my good spanish style rums), but Id say this one felt bland to me. In my opinion, 50/60€ for this is totally overpriced. I paid 34€ for a bottle and I think that 30 would be a more appropiate price for it. Me and my friends were having Ultimatum 8 years blend at the same time (cost me 24€) and it totally outclassed the Mount Gay XO in every aspect. And I can think of a lot of rums under 40€ that I prefer. I don't want people to get the wrong idea. This is still a very good rum, but it's burdened with a very high price.

Mount XO is an elegant rum with a classic Barbados note. Slightly chocolaty, fruity notes, dried apricot, pineapple etc. in a subtle way, oak, vanilla, a bit of coconut. All in all well done, very interesting for fans of this style but otherwise not particularly exciting.

A nice drop that's fun and also suitable for beginners, but I had imagined it completely differently. It's a mix of fruits, wood, chocolate, vanilla, raisins, caramel, and toffee. Unfortunately, it only has a short finish.
