This Barbados rum with a Mizunara finish is the best of the new Wagemut line. Very round and balanced and a fine taste with subtle fruitiness, spice and young wood. The alcohol is perfectly integrated.

I found the Fasssprache project by Nikolas really very interesting and very good. Let's see what he does with the reuse of individual barrels. The interesting thing about this bottling is certainly the Mizunara barrel, although due to the usual Barbados rum and the very low % I have no great expectations. Nose: despite the low ABV, initially alcoholic and metallic. But now fine fruity aromas come through; green apple, slightly pear and some lime. There is a slight spiciness, without being able to specify more. In the background, a slight sweetness of candied lemon and caramel as well as vanilla can be found, which with time comes more and more to the foreground together with a chocolaty texture. Overall quite reserved. 7.0 Palate: oh, a lot of dosage has gone in here, very sweet, sugar syrup or maple syrup, overwhelms everything. Behind that only vanilla and caramel. In the finish, some green apple comes in. It says Mizunara on it, but it feels like sugar is in it. Way too expensive for that. But it will surely find its sweet rum friends. 4.8

Weird rum, but tasty. Up to 18 years old Barbados rum finished in the most expensive oak cask from Japan (Mizunara). Yes, it is sweetened (which I'm usually not a fan of), but damn I could drink the bottles in one go. Supposedly created to pair with a Colorado cigar? Since the line is now discontinued, only remaining stocks are available for 99,- instead of the previous 120,- EUR. The nose is less flattering, but the palate all the more. Conclusion: I'll buy a few more bottles :-).

Relaxing with a few samples after attending a double birthday party. Listening to New Music Friday Denmark on Spotify. Decent bottling with an OK price tag. Light profile with fruits, pastries, caramel, fruits, honey, floral, natural sweetness, roasted wood, nuts, tannins and a warm dry palate.

Something new for me. Light and sparkling, it smells like spring, like apples and pears, like fresh wood and a bit of ginger. And all that just from the Japanese Mizunara cask. On the palate, first apple, then pear and ginger. Finally vanilla and coconut from the Barbados rum. Simply delicious.

Hanse Spirit Hamburg February 2026. Next up at the Wagemut booth. The Colorado was still missing. Sweetish nose, especially caramel and coconut, on the palate then not so sweet anymore, rather Barbados-fruity.

On the palate, you can already notice from the viscous consistency a probably high sugar content. Overall very round, pleasant, very sweet, a bit lacking in flavor, some bitter wood, walnut and alcohol, short finish. Surely fitting with a cigar.

Strong product. Honest and refreshing. Enjoy the exotic note and the intense character of the Mizunara. Really dry, in a pleasant way. Despite the slight sweetness. Goes well with a light cigar.

Good rum for a cigar, fruity and a bit nutty on the nose, round and soft on the palate, apple and some nuts continue. The sweetness is well embedded and not too intrusive. Medium finish where the spice spreads nicely.

I had quite high expectations due to the mizunara cask finish, but was unfortunately disappointed by the high sugar content. I really don’t understand why you finish 18-year-old Foursquare rum in a mizunara cask and then add vanilla pods and sugar. The mizunara cask is still subtly recognizable with the typical notes of ginger, pepper, green apple and minimal floral notes for me, but it is completely overshadowed by the vanilla and all the sweetness. Very sad. Could have been a great experiment. Especially for €120 I expect more...
