#5175 28.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light olive, citrus, faint mineral, light anise, sugarcane. Palate Warm, medium spicy, fruits, citrus, sugarcane, anise, light floral, licorice. Finish Long, faint smoke, fruits, citrus, light pineapple, light licorice, light floral, light spicy. Empty glass Licorice, citrus, light nutts.

Rum from Tahiti, I haven't had many of those yet. At least for me, it doesn't reach the average rating here. The nose is nice though, vegetal, fresh and floral. On the palate then too sharp-edged, also floral and solvents are noticeable. But too alcoholic.

Today we start with a Manutea from the South Sea island. Already a lot of esters on the nose but also very fresh, some fruits are recognizable. Very pleasant on the palate, also esters and fruits.

Licorice sticks in liquid and brutally intense! how is that possible?!! personally, I'm not a fan of licorice at all, but it's kind of crazy😅 in the daiquiri, the licorice note also remains brutally dominant, but is flattered by light vanilla and coconut/banana and bitter orange notes. Cool and very unusual stuff 😅🕺

A beautiful curiosity! Nose: Strange and unusual for someone used to Martinique and Guadeloupe agricoles. Resembles licorice eau-de-vie, a bit iodized. Mouth very oily and just as much licorice. Length, I need to taste again... Edit 2025 tasted blind, I go from 7.4 to a good 8 and the blind tasting allows me to recognize without hesitation a pot still rum without recognizing the Manutea since it is labeled as a column still rum! Looking back at the label confirms the pot still, I'll summarize: "Red Tahiti cane from Tahaa, the vesou obtained without adding water is brought by schooner to Moorea where it is distilled in a pot still then matured 3 months and reduced with spring water from Mont Rotui." For this blind evaluation: Very good nose characteristic of pot still with its coppery metallic notes, a quiet strength and already licorice notes. The mouth is on the same tones, oily and soft with a nice little warmth because it remains oily, far from being a flaw in integration. The length is average and unremarkable. A great white to discover, a pot still indeed... Not at the level of La Perle A1710 but of the same genetics. It surely lacks a bit of complexity to be rated even better.

A very fresh, grassy rum with a serious black licorice kick. I happen to love black licorice so this rum scratches an itch for me. Not the most refined as a sipper, although I’m good with it, but would make a fun daiquiri.

Shockingly licorice flavor. Based on the smell I wasn’t expecting much but the taste blew me away and made me jump in the air for joy. I felt like the Doom Slayer ripping my way through hell. In sort, a good run. :)
