Mount Gay Master Blender Collection (The Coffey Still Expression) 2019
Made for people who already know and like the Mount Gay profile and want to try it straight off the Coffey still. Expect vanilla, oak, caramel and a peppery, lightly floral edge, with surprising softness for 58%. Most tasters find it well made but light on complexity — clear Barbados character, roasted-caramel-and-wood more than tropical fruit, with a fairly short, woody finish.

How does Mount Gay Master Blender Collection (The Coffey Still Expression) 2019 taste?
Aggregated from 32 community reviews.
Soft, well-made Barbados sipper, light on depth Well-made and easy-drinking for its strength, but most find it lacks complexity and doesn't stand out. A pleasant Barbados sipper that many felt was hard to justify at the price.

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024. A nose of alcohol, fruit and young woods. A soft attack on the palate, followed by rising esters. The finish is short, and all you can smell at the end is wood. A rum that lacks complexity, especially given the price.

A pretty decent sipping rum, a nice history behind and a nice still. Alcool very well integrated, and a tasty column rum, but the complexity is lacking, and price / quality ratio is lackluster. Not one I'll buy a bottle

Beautiful aromas, nicely round, somewhat bitter, tropical fruits such as banana, marzipan. Blindly you could almost assign it to Jamaica Monymusk or Worthy Park.

Surprising new arrival at Mount gay. 100% from the Coffey still and only 4 years young. At 58% surprisingly mild and accessible, with a delicious but unusual aroma of citrus fruits, slightly floral and the typical chocolate banana oak note that you almost always find at Mount gay. A great addition, even if the price is quite steep!

Hanse Spirit Hamburg February 2026. And then there was the Mount Gay Coffee Still to finish. I like it quite a bit, it's very roasty, with vanilla, oak, and caramel noticeable, and black pepper on the palate.

I don't have much experience of tastings with this brand. I only know it through independent bottlers where I've enjoyed it quite a bit. I tasted the Fest rum at the beginning of the show. I like the Barbados, but it lacks a little complexity. More toasted caramel wood than the fruity coconut of other brands. Slight astreingence. Good integration of alcohol. I'm not really convinced by its price, but it's still good.

Fair rating 13th GRF. Solid Mount Gay. In no way worth the 210€.

Decent rum , a couple of years of extra aging would have helped. Not worth the extremely high price.

Brussels Rhum Festival 15/03/2025 Interesting nose earthy and dark comes to mind. Flavour and finish nothing special just your typical Barbados profile. I dont get the medicinal taste that I used too of Mount Gay.

15/03/25: tasted @ Brussels Rhum Festival. This one has a special nose with an interesting note I can't put my finger on. The palate was a rather average flavour profile from Barbados. Lacks complexity and is way overpriced.
