Privateer Navy Yard 4 year Single Cask 56.3 ABV Since there has been a lot of chatter surrounding Privateer rum lately, I figured I’d crack open a bottle I’ve had sitting in my collection for a while that was collecting some dust. Nose: Oak, caramel and butterscotch Palate: Vanilla, caramel, nutmeg, pepper and oak Finish: Long finish with baking spice, oak and tabaco.

Another Privateer reminds me a little of a Foursquare. Coconut, burnt sugar and fruit are more in the background. It's tasty, but it's looking for a unique selling point. I remain curious, it has potential.

#6684 23.04.2026 Enjoying a few more samples while watching Gold Rush on Max. Another rum where you get a bang for your buck. A nice rum with nice vanilla and caramel and some coconut on top. Pretty fruity and then some nutts as well.

On the nose: Burnt sugar and coconut mostly. Little bit of young wood. Sweet but not artificial sweet. Quite mild on the nose for a 56% abv rum. Taste: Caramel, Brown sugar, vanilla. Hints of chocolate. Quite Light and smooth on the mouthfeel. Not much complexity going on. Finish: Pleasantly sweet and smooth. Vanilla and caramel. I would say that this goes to category of "better, step-up beginner rums".

The measurements are relative and surprisingly intense. A mix of coconut and chocolate. On the palate, it is quite bitter. Caramel notes are present but the bitterness dominates. Not really my thing.
