My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: On the nose, the rum is fresh with lots of fruity sweetness. It's worth giving the rum some time in the glass. Citrus fruits and a light nutty spice are noticeable. Barrel notes like vanilla also come through. All very pleasant. When drinking, the lightness is immediately noticeable. Caramel is the first thing you taste. Also tropical fruit like orange and a light spice. The alcohol is well integrated and warms while drinking. The finish is shorter than expected and bitterness remains clearly at the end. The Don Q 2009 is a solid rum. I really like it without it making a strong statement. It’s a light rum. What it does, it does well. For 40-45 euros, it’s worth every cent and a very good entry into the world of cask strength. Can also be recommended as a blind buy.
