Oh, this could have been a really great one if the finish weren't so woody and alcoholic. It starts off very strong on the nose with raisins, vanilla, and forest honey, and it keeps that impression on the palate at first, but then unfortunately it leans too much into cheap alcohol. However, compared to the 78 (RX22145) tasted alongside, it's a real treat—you can clearly tell that the 78 Sansibar is a total failure. Update 2025-07-28: Upon retasting, it feels very artificial. Downgraded from 82 to 80 points.

Trade fair evaluation This rum is definitely one of the better of the recently released 50-year-old Cubans. While it is still relatively restrained on the nose, it is creamy and soft on the palate and unfolds its dark aromas gently and in a pleasant interplay. The finish is relatively long. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with Cubans, it also lacks some complexity

Nose: wood, tobacco, vanilla, sweetness. Palate: very round, sweet, plum, tobacco, roasted aromas, wood, alcohol, sherry. Finish rather short. Overall, I was expecting more. Maybe it was sweetened a little or it has a sherry finish. Somehow I don't really warm to the Cubans. Perhaps they're not quite my favorite taste profile.

#6752 06.05.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after picking up my wife from work. Watching the latest episode of Gold Rush on Max. Though the price is pretty steep on this one it is a nice rum. A fruity and well balance rum with nice tobacco, leather, fruits and light nutts.

Typical representative of the profile of the old Cuban rums that are now popping up on the market by the dozen. Pleasant on the nose and palate with a heavy sweetness, tobacco and some spice. The alcohol and wood influence are perfectly integrated - an almost perfect drinking pleasure that only lacks the final refinement in the form of aromatic complexity.

After a long period of acclimatization, a very delicate, creamy impression comes to the nose. Barrel, rubber, caramel, nuts, dark fruits and tonka bean have the upper hand. Cubarum is not known for its intensity, but that would spoil the complexity here. On the palate, it is buttery smooth and has an ingenious consistency. Wood, dark caramel and rubber/machine fat are replaced by nuts, sulphur and leather, which then lead into great coffee/mocha flavors. Dates, raisins and milk chocolate accompany the whole. The long and delicate finish is characterized by barrel, nuts, leather and pleasant spices. It ends with chocolate, tonka bean and black tea. I love it when something smells and tastes completely different to anything I've tasted before and this worked perfectly here.

This is also a very good bottling if you like the style (and ignore the price). Brings quite a bit of sweetness, very pleasant mouthfeel, raisins, vanilla, dark chocolate and wood. Alcohol is very well integrated. A rounded affair, but here too it lacks complexity.
