Edit: Tasted again and gave it more time to develop. Again the same shortcoming, the poorly integrated alcohol. It gets better with a little dilution, but unfortunately it's not really convincing either, so I've downgraded it again. All in all, a good price-performance ratio. It has everything you would expect from a T.D.L of this vintage. The only point that really bothers me here is that it is very alcoholic, which is not optimally integrated. Some of its vintages are better known.

Intense, deep aroma spectrum with a classic TDL profile for the vintage. Still with quite inviting caramel notes on the nose, which give way to a powerful mélange of cooling mint, ripe, citrusy-sweet tropical fruit, crisp spicy notes and smoky wood influences on the palate. Round, present, intense, demanding - absolutely worthwhile. A successful first selection for the Up Spirits Club.

Yes, the rum is really strongly characterized by mint. But it also has something dirty about it and could pass blind as a Caroni. A strong representative of the already remarkable 2009 vintage.

Nice start: high intensity on the nose with minty notes (rather menthol than fresh mint), tropical fruits, caramel and a hint of cacoa. Very enjoyable on the palate es well. (American) Ice tea with peaches and some mint again. There is also quite a bit of wood which makes for an interesting over all profile. Finish cannot hold up entirely to the rest - here complexity is fading quickly with focus on (young-ish) wood notes. Excellent price point and very nice sipping experience. Should also preform in cocktails, I imagine:)

Nice typical TDL. Good menthol but not only. A nice marriage of menthol, milk chocolate/caramel and citrus bitterness, plus a really nice "peach ice tea" side. I would have preferred a few degrees less, but I'm sensitive to that. So that would make me prefer the 2009 OTL plantation (bird series) for its fruitier, less minty side and easier degree. But at this price in 2024, such a TDL is really worth it.

Really very nice price-pleasure ratio. Menthol/mint strong Tdl with dried and citrus fruits, caramel, tea, some chocolate and a few hints of peach. For the price you can hardly say anything. I would wish for better alcohol integration, balance and more yellow fruits (and then of course I would be happy to pay more).

Typical 2009 T.D.L. With very distinct mint aromas, dried apricot and peach tea. On the palate, brown sugar and more stone fruits appear. The finish is a bit sharp. Today compared with Bottleshop#1, which is a bit smoother, creamier and also a bit sweeter. For me, there is no clear winner today.

Very good TSP for little money. This is not the Champions League, but it's already qualified for Europe ;-) Nice tea notes, plus mint and eucalyptus and orange. Could be a little more complex and fatter on the tongue, the nose promises a little more. Nice first bottling for the Up Spirits Club!

Wow, great part, the best for today to finish. Lots of herbs on the nose, mint and eucalyptus for example, but black tea is also recognizable. The palate is also predominantly herbal, but the 62.9% is barely recognizable. Top rum.

This is a nice little surprise, at a pleasant price. Typical TDL notes of mint, eucalyptus, tea and orange peel are there. The finish reminds me of a peach iced tea.

The first nose is initially strong in alcohol despite a long aeration. It's very expressive, on menthol, orange, a nice caramel, also oak. I feared a sting from the alcohol on the first sip. Lost that fear, the alcohol is beautifully integrated on this palate full of quite surprising bitterness for a TDL. Bitter orange, black tea. It's astringent without being disturbing because it keeps a very pleasant freshness. Finish to match. A hint of caramel at the end of the mouth. Very nice length. The alcohol is barely noticeable. Very surprising!

Solid & tasty TSP. Fairly priced at 80€. But doesn't completely blow me away in terms of aroma. Blends in similarly well with other 2009 vintages and the alcohol is also well integrated.

#5835 08.10.2025 Enjoying a few samples after work while streaming from MAX. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, olive, light papaya, mint, citrus, light caramel, faint floral. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, fruits, berries, light orange, faint chocolate, faint caramel, light ester, mint, light olive. Finish Long, light wood, caramel, mint, olive, faint salt, mango. Empty glass Mint, caramel, light chocolate, manto, light floral.

Very complex and dense at first, mint, tobacco and caramel fruit. Dark on the palate, candied fruit, chocolate and barrel influence. A little alcoholic and warming on the finish. I think it's great given the PLV, you can taste the T.D.L profile straight away and after a few seconds there's a little sweet honey boost. Already well done👌

Nice "standard" 2009 TDL with the now well-known fruity-minty-caramel profile. For me, it doesn't reach references like the FRC Bottleshop, nevertheless a good drop at a fair price.

Beautiful matte bottle under 100 euros. You can feel the alcohol, but very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. Mint from TDL is an unmistakable taste that will never bore you.

Tasted from a 3cl sample, bottle already opened for some time, the airing did it good. 👃 Oh! Lovely notes of creamy mint accompanied by 60% dark chocolate (who said After Eight?) Orange marmalade, unsweetened mango jam, some lychees. It's slightly buttery, with soft caramel leaning towards toffee and fudge. Beautiful sweet sensation of beeswax and crystallized flower honey. On the second nose, the "dirty" side is obvious, with hydrocarbons and some macadamia nuts. What a nose! 😋 Wow! A bomb of Trinidadian esters mixing beautiful sweet peaches, pink grapefruit, bitter oranges, freshly cut mangoes. Flavor of olive brine, more black than green, salty notes, also lemony. Fresh mint leaf and green tea complete these flavors. What an integration of the alcohol! On the retro-olfaction, smoky notes of a garage workshop, a bit of gasoline and rubber. ⛳ You want even more compared to the indulgence of the nose and the explosion in the mouth. A soft and silky blend of honey, candied lemon, black olives, a bit of black tea, mint, and dried flowers. Being more used to old vintages from TDL, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003, I'm impressed by the quality (and the price!) of this selection. Kudos to The Colours of Rum & the Up Spirits Club 👌 It's decided, I'm off to find at least one bottle of this delicious brew 🤤

Damn, I was so excited about this drop, and I was not disappointed. It packs a serious punch. On the nose, it’s really round, I have to say. After the alcohol bite fades and it opens up, a fine spiciness emerges that carries through to the finish. Strangely, no one has mentioned that yet!? Am I different? :-D Black tea, orange, and light mint round it off, plus a fine caramel note that brings sweetness. This sweetness first runs through the palate before the spice takes over again, with bitter orange, woody notes, and pepper; black tea and mint round it all off again. It doesn’t quite reach the RA’s level, it lacks the dirty notes, but this one impresses with its spice. Thanks, Richard, for giving me the chance to be part of this.😘

The TDL is really fun. Not an outstanding rum, but down-to-earth and everything a good TDL needs. The mint pushes massively in the finish and the wood is really nicely present on the nose. Definitely a daily sipper. Great value for money for sure. ----- Addition: after eight 😂

Wow, what a slap! The nose is quite Caroni: petroleum, dirt, hydrocarbons, blackcurrant, old tires, rubber. Also some TDL with a bit of eucalyptus. But you also sense black fruits: blackberries. The nose is aggressive in alcohol. It's a Spiritori TDL that I find even dirtier. The palate becomes TDL and rivals last year's Spirit Gallery: menthol galore, red fruits, the dirty side disappears for this bomb of red fruits (blackcurrant, raspberry, blackberries). The whole is warm and well integrated in alcohol. A delight! It ends on licorice and notes of cola. Finish: long, mentholated, powerful, woody. I'm rushing to order a bottle given the ridiculous price of this 14-year-old rum. 105€ for such quality! Yes, I'm not rational but I love big TDL!

Nose rather sweet with lots of caramel and the mint needs some time. Unfortunately, the alcohol remains biting. On the palate, nice complexity and there is a lot to discover. Here the mint is clearly more present. The finish is also long. Unfortunately, the alcohol is also noticeable here and lays unpleasantly on the tongue and stays there in the finish. There are better TDLs from 2009. Solid.

Very nice rum, with an extremely good value. Strong lychee notes, flowery with sparkling wine some sherry, dried fruits and some pepper. The finish is very long and dry with cardboard and fermented flavors. Lychee is very dominant and present from nose to finish.

In the nose, mint, herbs, caramel, dried fruit and earthy tones. Very well done. The body is similar to my previous sample rx20026. But on the second sip, it's better. I would call it creamy mint. Great, but the finish is shorter than I would like.

Very strong T.D.L. The smell is pleasant with mild vanilla aromas and slightly spicy. The taste is very strong and intense. The spiciness continues here. Quite dry and in view of the ABV, this is not optimally integrated. The finish is woody and shorter than expected.

On the nose, you'll find caramel, mint, orange, and milk chocolate. The palate brings a refreshing mix of mint, black tea, tropical fruits and a hint of smoke. The finish lingers with notes of wood, black tea, and clear barrel influence. A solid value for the price, though slightly on the alcoholic side.

I think the ratings on rum x are excessively low. Crazy value for money, an explosion in the mouth of mint and orange that you then find again on the palate with a slight extra woody note.. To be bought by the case!

We preferred it to Plenipotenzario and Caroni 21. Insanely fruity, heavy, dirty and intense. That was a sample so I puchased full bottle. I will update my review later. Agree with other reviews could be a caroni

Nose: Pencil, herbs, caramel, alcohol well integrated Palate: lovely sweetness, black tea, herbs, mint comes through very nicely, pencil including wood and red color 😉 - freshly sharpened, cinnamon, caramel, creamy, alcohol well integrated, I really like the creamy finish, stays pleasantly long and reminds me of Werther's Original.

The first club bottling from The Colours of Rum under the UP Spirits Club banner, I think it surprised everyone with a dangerously drinkable, intense and complex Trinidad. Plus an almost unbelievable price. This really turned out great!

Exactly how I imagine the perfect price/performance ratio. For 80 euros a honest rum with notes of mint, eucalyptus, tea, orange peel. Gentle woodiness and sweetness at the end complement a nice flavor profile. It’s definitely not the best TDL 2009, but certainly one of the best in relation to price. This is what you want in your home bar.

Again a quality TDL and winning in the price/performance ratio. Super! Color beautiful mahogany, in the aroma distinct, slightly alcoholic, mint/wood/burnt caramel. On the palate again mint together with wood right away - it's not a mint bomb but mint is noticeable for a long time with a medium finish.
