Wet oak and damp grass first, then the greedy side kicks in: vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate and burnt cane sugar, with dried fruit and a bit of orange peel underneath. At 48.2% the alcohol sits well integrated, warm and easy. A few tasters note the cask does a lot of the talking — one calls it almost too polished to still read as agricole. Loses a little punch as the bottle oxidizes.

8,5:On the nose, there's a lot of greediness, the rum is well balanced, sugar cane is juicy, waxy, mineral and slightly smoky. There are strong peaches and some tea.As is often the case with HSE, the influence of the cask is evident in the form of wood, a bit roasted, dry, which brings vanilla, roasted nuts and chocolate. The sugar is burnt now. When aired, come aromas of orange, nutmeg, cinnamon, dried figs and flowery (geranium), vegetal with an olive, fresh grass, some herbal notes.The whole is very harmonious. Tobacco is left for the finish, becomes a bit musty. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is relatively soft, with a juicy, waxy and mineral sugar cane, spicy, the fruits are bourbony, as peaches, orange, maybe kumquat.Red fruits appear in the middle.The wood is dry, a bit smoky, there are nuts like almond, chocolate, vanilla. It is also vegetal and after airing, a bit salty and tannic. When nicely rested, herbal and geranium notes are stronger... 8,6:The finish is long, dry with quite intense wood notes, delicious and mineral sugar cane, bourbon yellow fruits, cherry, vanilla, chocolate, nuts, then a slight tannic edge and tobacco. Unfortunately, not mine at all. The rum tastes like a mixture of sweet vanilla aromas and herbs. With longer standing time, the whole thing harmonizes a little better, herbs and vanilla, some wood, that's all there is to it. For me, this is a very modern agricole style, as is unfortunately also the case with many newer Saint James bottlings. Alcohol is well integrated. No off-notes, but the taste is just not my thing.

Surprisingly great cinema! Wood, honey, chocolate. The two young barrels (only 7 and 8 years old) were really brought out the best.

CdR bottling, blend from 2 casks, 7/8 years old. Quite caramel-sweet on the nose, roasted nuts, subtle green notes, a bit like green/unripe banana. On the palate nutmeg, barrel, tannins. It lacks a bit of complexity, but for just under 90 EUR you get a really tasty sipper here!

Nose = Symphony of woodiness, herbal notes, candied fruits, red fruits, a bit of caramel and chocolate. Palate = It's rather oily with added spices, dried fruits and a bit of vanilla. With the alcohol and barrel heating, this eau-de-vie can be aired for several minutes. The finish is normal.

#6967 26.06.2026 Relaxing with a few rums after a hard training on my bike in the scorching heat. Listening to some classics turned into Trance on spotify. A very nice agricole with a good price tag in my mind. Well balanced rum with nice spices, fruits, chocolate, nutts, roasted wood and some leather.

A bit perplexed here, I hope the 14 years promises other things :) A super nice nose carried by fruits and vanilla, a hint of caramel. On the palate it’s similar but with some greener notes. The finish, however, turns too much to young wood, a bit astringent, and burnt sugar. A bit too straightforward and short for my taste. Nice, but lacks depth.

👃 Typical humid woodiness of Martinique agricoles in general. As if the staves of the wood were heated white-hot, then soaked in water for a long time, then dried afterwards. A herbal side on wet and greasy grass. A nice duality between on one side a gourmandise of vanilla, cinnamon, cooking spices, chocolate and cane sugar caramel, and on the other side dried fruits of grape brandies and a bit of light citrus (mandarin?). A bit of roasting of oilseeds. 😋 I find this herbal and vegetal aspect again, quite surprising. Wet grass, humid wood, the tannins of the cask, candied cane sugar, light sap. Light candied dried fruits, cooked apple, and then quite a lot of spices, vanilla, nutmeg, light grey pepper, light cinnamon. Note: loses intensity over oxidation. ⛳ Average, soft, humid. As if the staves of the cask were burned with water and cane sugar. Light dried fruits, bourbon cask, vanilla, chocolate, spices. Note: 85 > 83. -2 points after several tastings. It loses intensity and concentration as the level drops in the bottle, does not tolerate oxidation. Still a very good rum, with a nose > palate.

Really round and tasty agricole. However, the new American oak or possibly also bourbon barrel sets the tone enormously and almost irons out all agricole aromas. Tonka, cinnamon, vanilla, caramelized sugar, dried apricot, thickened sour cherries and intense barrel notes. Very tasty and harmonious but almost no longer recognizable as agricole rhum. Regardless of this, it's a deliciously tasty rhum that could pass as a daily sipper!

I already quite like the basic profile of HSE with the noticeable but not exaggerated oak, the fine spices and the tropical fruitiness, while here a very tasty chocolate note from the smell to the finish provides additional rounding. An Agricole exactly to my taste!

The nose fruity with a hint of nougat. Slightly metallic undertone. Very vegetal grassy taste. The rum has a certain complexity but the grassy notes are very dominant. An acquired taste. No real change on the second tasting.

Very pleasing! With water, honey aromas come out on the nose and on the palate vanilla, light wood notes and some spice and in the finish a delicious agricole moment. The alcohol is super integrated.

Great indulgence with a vanilla that takes up quite a bit of space. Definitely on worked woody aromas, the whole gives a finished impression for the relative youth of the product. On the palate, you find an orangette (candied orange peel coated in chocolate) and custard. The price is also worth praising.

La Confrérie du Rhum HSE XO (Cuvée No. 22) – 2016 – 7/8 years - 48.2%: Bottled for the CdR, it's a blend of two casks (7/8 years old). A fairly caramel-sweet nose, and on the palate, a woody touch with tannins. Although it lacks a bit of complexity, it remains a good quality/price ratio.

The color is a beautiful mahogany, and on the nose I find light woody and caramel notes, some spices, honey, and almond in a more sustained way. On the palate, a gentle attack of the gourmet woodiness so well mastered by HSE, then shifts to red fruits (raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry), then to dark chocolate before gently fading away. Not an avalanche of spice and woodiness, which reduces the finish a little, but it's a very good rum!

C'est bon. Facile à boire, chaleureux, boisé et encore assez sucré. C'est aussi un cran en dessous du Clément Confrérie du Rhum par exemple, que j'ai bu dans la même line. Globalement, tout est là, mais je voudrais que les curseurs soient poussé un peu plus loin.

A "typical" profile of a quality Martinique agricole XO. Enticing nose and palate in continuity. Maybe a bit lacking in complexity but still solid with no flaws for the price. Nice selection.

Sehr schöner gereifter Agricole. In der Nase habe ich anfangs Frucht- und Eukalyptusnoten, die an Cognac oder Armagnac erinnern, gepaart mit leichten Gewürznoten. Am Gaumen kommen deutlich grasige Agricole-Noten hinzu und die Gewürznoten werden intensiver. Nach einiger Zeit im Glas gesellt sich eine tiefe Schokoladennote hinzu, die eine schöne Komplexität ins Spiel bringt. Im Abgang bleiben die Eukalyptusnoten am Gaumen und die Schokoladennoten im Rachen recht lange präsent. Insgesamt ein Agricole mit einem tollen Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

Very nice agricole with a toasted nose, roasting spices, cinnamon, alongside white peach, very pleasant, an infusion of berries, I really like this nose. On the palate, a lively attack, a beautiful integration of the alcohol, cane sugar, very nice selection by the brotherhood.
