Overripe banana, glue and varnish hit the nose right away, then the palate goes hard on esters, tropical fruit and a fermented tang, with a dry, slightly bitter mid-palate. Classic young Hampden HGML: intense, wild, and honestly a bit one-note. Most agree it's very good but lacks the complexity a few more years in cask would bring. The 58.8% is well tucked in.

Edit: Suitable as a mixer in Mai Tai, Planters Punch, Hurricane and with cola Raised rating Very nice rum basically, but unfortunately I find it a bit too young and wild in my opinion. I think a few years in the barrel would have done it good. But highly recommended as a mixer.

Top HGML, top PLV. That's how you want Hampdens. Strong, young Jamaican who immediately brings full power to the floor. Doesn't hide, quite one-dimensional. Hampden lovers will love it, others not so much.

Young, wild HGML very fruity and fresh with plenty of ester glue 😀. Alcohol rather moderately integrated. After a good 30min it becomes more and more accessible. In May Tai very solid 3/5 . Price performance is decent here considering the times.

Classis Hampden profile from start to end 🤗🤤 a lot of funk, esters, pineapple, overriped fruits, with a cool Kiwi note. The alcohol is well integrated. The barrel notes remain the most of the time in the background and give it a nice roundness.

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get are esters with fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, kiwi, some citrus and some varnish, accompanied with floral and vegetal notes as olive. All nicely melted into a juicy marmelade with plums. Some spice and roastedness could be noticed after aeration. Perhaps some grass, a little of wood, mustiness, milk chocolate, menthol and marzipan after a nice rest. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is very fruity and vegetal. There are tons of esters. Our tasting buds are attacked with the same spectre as on the nose... As an addition, the rum is dry, salty, a bit mineral and when we count in also some menthol, olive, and of course molasses, a bit bitter... After a while, it becomes syrupy with some maple and caramelized. We certainly cannot miss vanilla, coconut and toasted wood, smoke well after our first sip...and a juicy strawberry🙂. 8,6:The finish is long and full of fermented tropical fruits, woody, dry and a bit astringent, vegetal and spicy, musty&mineral, with molasses and juicy strawberry...and very obvious cigar note in the end. Overripe tropical fruit, esters, a vegetal and fermented side, otherwise the nose is lively but ample, the wood is supportive, with a hint of glue and even rubber. The palate is lively and vibrant. Lots of overripe fruit, followed by wood and vegetal notes. The finish is long, but only on part of the aroma. An intense, raw rum.

#5576 21.08.2025 Relaxing to some pretty nice EDM mixes from 2024. Nose Intense, faint wood, fruity, overripe, ester, light polish, citrus, banana, faint cherry, light marzipan. Palate Medium intense, naturally sweet, faint wood, faint smoke, fruity, overripe, banana, ester, light floral, light mint. Finish Long and warm, light wood, fruity, ester, light floral, light mint, faint leather. Empty glass Light olive, citrus, strawberry, light floral, faint caramel.

On the nose esters, glue, fermentation, varnish, pineapple, olive, vanilla, floral hints. Reminiscent of young 2007 HDs. Intense on the palate, still somewhat young and wild, with a slight floral touch, little fruit.

A good Hampden but also one of the less spectacular TWJ releases. Nice Allspice on the nose. The palate is fruity, funky with some wood but a bit too dry for my liking which gets even more intense after some time and in the finish.

Nice classic Hampden. This one is very estery and fruity on the nose (think overripe banana). Also has glue and varnish notes with some muted young wood in there. On the palate this one hits hard with big notes of intense esters and fruit. Quite dry and the fermentation is very noticeable. Again, some young wood in there but not too much - the fruit and esters are allowed to take center stage and dominate. There is some bitterness in the mid palate. Quite good - I love Hampden - but lacks some of the complexity or maturity to make it standout.

A tasty young Hampden whose intense fruitiness is pressed onto the taste buds with a lot of pressure due to the short maturation time, while the alcohol content is cleverly masked and a pleasant creaminess develops in the mouth. The aromas shown in the smell are consistently continued on the palate and finish, so the rum holds few surprises, but when the overall appearance is so pleasing, that's just a tiny point of criticism.

Funky punch right on the tongue. The nose already picks up strong ester notes, slightly sweet. But the taste is intensely beautiful. Powerful Hampden, not too complex but with fine notes in between (floral? marzipan?), but definitely intense with a well-integrated alcohol!

The bottle lasted about a year, the wheather today called for something Jamaican in the glass. Good young Hampden, still a bit wild. Gluey esters in the nose. Ttropical fruits, a bit metallic and mineral in the mouth with a warm kick to it that exits through the nose 😁 It was nice.

Poured from a sample. A young-ish conti HGML. Doesn’t have the stopping power of the tropical bottlings but is still very good on its own accord. Heavy pungent fruit along with acidic estery funk. The oak and integration could have been better. Finish is relatively short. Overall, a very good rum!

It's sharp and unattractive at first glance. Very little fruit, more funky chemistry, even more than in the unaged DOK version from HD. A teaspoon of water on 50ml pushes the funk back a bit, but it's still "city-forming". Over time, a lot of ginger, tropical essences, vanilla sweetness appear. Olives and mescal smoke are absent or well hidden. The taste is sweet. Here are various tropics, lemon balm, lemongrass, sweet and sour mango and dried banana. Alcohol is well integrated, or maybe influenced by the added water!? Medium length finish. There is some tropical phenolic character and bright lemongrass. It's definitely tasty and easy to drink, but not wow. Youth, unlike the alcohol, couldn't be hidden, but it's only five years old here. I don't even know how you can make young spirit old, or create the impression!? No way! The release has a right to exist, but I don't think the bottler should waste energy on such releases. Crisis of the genre or thirst for money!?

Big banana custard smell. Overripe. Some caramel. Pours light golden. In the mouth this really comes together on smoothness. Banana tones down and lemon citrus picks up nicely. Custard sticks around. Finish is super smooth for the alcohol level. This is dangerous shit here. Medium finish considering. Bottle split thanks to xamsx.

The Whisky Jury – Hampden 2019 – 58.8% The Whisky Jury + Hampden + TasTToe selection = explosive combo. HGML (1000–1100 esters), distilled in 2019, bottled in 2025. 👉 Young Jamaican, I expected a slap... but in the end it remains manageable. Very fruity, fresh, good ester glue: an HGML as I love them! Surprisingly long finish for its 5 years, full of tropical fruits. It lacks a bit of complexity for its age, but I approve without hesitation! 💛💚
