Most tasters like it but keep circling one issue: the year in cask fights the spirit. The nose is the easy win — pineapple, banana, overripe tropical fruit and that Hampden glue. Then young wood, tannins and a vinegary tang show up on the palate, and a few felt the barrel muddied things. At 52% it drinks fuller than the unaged version, just less clean.

<>H hat wie DOK eine nahezu identische Esterzusammensetzung, aber deutlich weniger Ester. D.h. viel saure Frucht, etwas Florales und Beeren. Das Fass hat hier größere Mengen an Syringole und Eugenole eingebracht, wodurch Düfte von nassem Holz und Nelken erzeugt werden. Die Nelken habe ich jetzt nicht erkannt, dafür Honig, Holz und etwas Schokolade (Furfurale/Whisky Lactone).

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Gelagerte Variante gewinnt etwas Frucht und Vanille dazu. In der Nase und am Gaumen ist der Eindruck blumiger und angenehmer. Insgesamt ist der gelagerte <>H gut trinkbar. Fazit: keiner der 16 Rums war ein Genuss und die Bewertung ist nur als relativ untereinander zu verstehen. Trotzdem sehr interessant alle Marks unter gleichen Bedingungen zu probieren und die verschiedenen Ausprägungen von Frucht, Klebstoff, Würze und Überraschenderweise oft Umami zu schmecken. Demnächst ein Set mit 3-5 Jahren im Fass?

We are slowly approaching the highlight ester range with Dr Hampden 8 Marks Collection 1 year. You can already clearly smell and taste the ester in the Diamond. Then there are the tropical fruits, as is usually the case ;-)

Die Nase macht echt Spaß aber am Gaumen geht's mir leider wie beim hlcf das das Fass hier scheinbar alles zunichte macht. Meine Bewertung zu der unaged Variante ist hier durch die Bank weg besser als hier in der aged Variante. Schade. Auch hier ist wieder eine sehr unangenehme Essig-Säure und leichte Rauchigkeit vorhanden...

Wonderfully rich nose. Bright fruits and a beautiful sweetness. An almost restrained fruitiness on the palate. But definitely an exciting complexity with a good punch on the finish. Wow ... This one shakes.

A fermented, woody nose, with bacon, yellow fruit and vinegar. A stacking of flavors, as on the nose, but without unity. The palate is reduced and the aromas fail to express themselves. The finish is short, too woody. A rum with the appearance of complexity but in fact dissociated with poorly integrated wood.

Die Nummer Fünf der Hampden Acht Marks Collection ist bereits in der Nase wieder sehr fruchtig voll von tropischen Früchten. Natürlich darf auch der Ester Anteil nicht fehlen. Insgesamt ein schöner Rum
