One year in a cask does more here than you'd expect from such a young Hampden. Esters and solvent still lead — overripe pineapple, citrus, red berries — but a little wood rounds the edges and pulls in vanilla, marzipan and a touch of chocolate. Several tasters call this C<>H mark one of the best in the aged series: high-ester punch that actually gained balance from the barrel.

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get are esters, solvents, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, some citrus.A wood is roasted, spicy, molasses vegetal. On aeration, marzipan, vanilla pop out, as red fruits, currants. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is estery, fruity with ripe tropical fruits like pineapple, kiwi, some citrus, the wood is roasted with nougat, pastry, spicy with vanilla, the molasses is vegetal. After resting the rum, variety of fruits get more power, like red fruits as strawberries, dark berries, dried fruits.Our tasting buds are attacked with caramel, perhaps cream toffee, molasses is flowery, some salt, lime peel arise. 8,2:The finish is quite long, earthy, again very fruity, with spicy, roasted wood, a bit tannic.A pleasant crunchy bread note rounds up our tasting.. Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting C<>H 1 year: clearly better than the unaged slip-up, but still a bit of alcohol on the nose. Alongside tropical fruits, lots of esters. Only slightly diluted now.

A lovely, complex nose of candied fruit, red fruit, Ibiscus flower and vanilla. The attack on the palate is smooth, aromatic and complex, with well-integrated wood. The finish is long, elegant and a little bitter. A very fine rum, complex in aroma but lacking a little depth.

Best result from the one-year aging of the Hampden 8 Mark series! Of course high ester content (sour fruits and red berries, characteristic for C<>H), but it's amazing what a year of aging can do. Clearly more complex in its composition than its brothers. As always furfurals and whisky lactones, now also with larger shares of other molecule types. For example ellagic acid (tannins, bitterness), which possibly causes the association with chocolate.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection 1 year, here the penultimate, the C Diamond H. Almost at the highest ester level, so naturally esters and also citrus fruits on the nose. On the palate as well, with an added certain fruitiness.

Enjoying the last 4 of the 8 marks and they're slightly darker than the first 4 from yesterday. Listening to Psy Trance 2025 by Matata Records, pretty good playlist with lots of power 😊 Nose Intense, fruity, overripe, light wood, light citrus, faint caramel, ester, light polish, faint floral. Palate Warm, intense, fruity, overripe, banana, light olive, faint chocolate, light floral, faint leather, ester. Finish Long and warm, light wood, fruity, faint leather, light chocolate, light polish. Empty glass Chocolate, light olive, light leather, floral, banana.

Now the penultimate of the eight Marks series. Ester becomes increasingly clear here and also fruits like red fruits and citrus fruits are recognizable. All in all a successful rum of this series and so far one of the best.

The nose is again a bit fruitier compared to hgml. Complex depth. Unripe red fruits. The strained senses now let go. The taste now extremely estery and complex. Amazing.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the stratosphere of esters ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and marzipan notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: no joke here. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastries, funk and yet an amazing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️

Surprisingly beautiful aromas both on the nose and on the palate of red fruit jelly (red berries), some cocoa and vanilla, light citrus aromas, both zest and tart juice. It's a round thing, but here too I'm not completely taken by the stuff and find the unaged version more successful.

Surprisingly round, lots of caramel sweetness, great integration of tropical and citrus fruits - again a convincing example of how High Ester can benefit from some wood and dilution.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Here too, the aging did the rum good. Fruity, floral and with a very pleasant finish. On par with the aged HGML, very drinkable. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a delight and the rating is only to be understood as relative among them. Still very interesting to try all Marks under the same conditions and to taste the different expressions of fruit, glue, spice and surprisingly often umami. Soon a set with 3-5 years in the cask?
