Made for people already deep into Hampden's ester world, this is the DOK mark — the highest-ester of the eight. Expect a brutal nose of glue, solvent and nail polish, then overripe pineapple, banana, marzipan and a sharp lime acidity. One taster called it an "Ester Bombe." The single year in cask rounds it slightly but several still find it watery and very sour.

8,3:On the nose, the first attack in our nosetrils is from esters and glue.There are tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, brioche, pastry, marzipan, as molasses is vegetal with an olive. On aeration, citrus and vanilla arise. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is estery with fermented tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, kiwi and red fruits with strawberry, a bit sour.The wood is roasted, smoky with confectionery, nuts, cream toffee, spicy vanilla, as the molasses is vegetal, covered in honey. Later the rum is more citrusy with lime, some yoghurt note pops up. 8,4:The finish long with esters, tropical and red fermented fruits, citrus, roasted, smoky wood notes, spicy and earthy.. A brutal nose of solvents, glue and esters. Fruits are in the background. There are also flowers and almost pure vanilla. Apart from a slightly acqueous entry, the palate is also rather violent. But there are also deviant aromas of rottenness and manure. The finish is long, but the deviant aromas are still there. The last rum in these two series, and although it has its qualities, it's still hard to drink.

Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting DOK 1 year: last sample of the tasting. Also here strong ester aromas. The overripe tropical fruits appeared rounder due to the one-year aging. Unfortunately still a bit watery, but clearly less than the others.

Last one today, this time the DOK of the Hampden 8 Marks Collection 1 year. An absolutely top ester bomb. Exactly my thing. In addition, a slightly fruity note and solvent can be recognized in the nose. Then also slightly fruity on the palate. Delicious.

#5381 08.06.2025 Just because you drink rum before lunch doesn't mean you have a drinking problem, it just makes you a pirate. Enjoying the last 4 of the 8 marks and they're slightly darker than the first 4 from yesterday. Listening to Psy Trance 2025 by Matata Records, pretty good playlist with lots of power 😊 Nose Intense, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, overripe, ester, spice, light pineapple, light glue. Palate Intense, warm, medium dry, light wood, fruity, overripe, light citrus, banana, light floral, light glue, ester. Finish Long and warm, medium dry, fruity, ester, light glue, faint floral. Empty glass Spice, light chocolate, fruity, faint caramel, light nutts. Needs to rest for a while to really open up.

A full load of pineapple and banana, floral with herbs and marzipan. Very intense and concentrated. Makes quite an impression, as does the blank version. According to the additional information, there is a high proportion of furfural molecules, which produce aromas such as caramel, roasted hazelnuts and peanut butter. There are also whisky lactones, which provide tart, earthy, floral and spicy aromas.

Unfortunately already number eight of the 8 Marks Collection and once again a very exciting rum. Here again clearly esters and tropical fruits like pineapple clearly recognizable and smellable. Overall once again a great series. Even though there have been better ones in the past.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Lagerubg has softened the fum and made it more drinkable. still sour. Nevertheless, for me the DOK ranks behind HGML and C<>H. Very sour on the palate. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a pleasure and the rating is only to be understood as relative to each other. Nevertheless, it was very interesting to try all the Marks under the same conditions and to taste the different expressions of fruit, stickiness, spice and, surprisingly, often umami. A set with 3-5 years in the barrel coming soon?

In sensory terms, I have now reached the end of the line. Nevertheless, the nose is extremely intense. Clearly the Esther. Red stone fruit, I would say. Perhaps something different in the second tasting :-D for me due to the high ester content.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection (1 year) DOK. The aged version brings even more depth. Lots of overripe fruits, full load of esters and marzipan. Alcohol is well integrated. But it also brings noticeable acidity.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the stratosphere of esters ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and marzipan notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: no joke here. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastries, funk and yet an amazing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️

Relatively typical DOK aroma. Sour lime juice, lime zest, marzipan cream and freshly baked brioche, tropical, highly fermented fruit and plenty of glue, esters and nail polish remover. But overall it seems very diluted. You notice almost nothing of the barrel ageing here...

Decent DOK and fairly approachable. Young but not as firey as some. Nose brings overripe fruit, some light mint and complex young wood. Mouth is astringent with citrus and wood, and some mouth wash. Finish brings fruit and more flowery notes. Ok but not something I would buy a full bottle of!
