CoR Hampden Oloroso (Single Cask Jamaican Rum) DOK 2023
Here's the surprise: this cask-strength DOK smells fantastic — pineapple, papaya and that classic Hampden glue — but the Oloroso finish and short 9-month aging seem to trip it up. On the palate the alcohol runs hot and "scharfkantig" (sharp-edged), and several tasters hit a bitter, cognac-like sourness on the way out. The nose promises more than the glass delivers.

Funky DOK nose, hot and sharp-edged finish Divisive. The DOK funk and tropical esters are all there, but most find the alcohol poorly integrated and the finish bitter or sour. A few loved it; more felt let down.

Once again lots of fruit esters and tropical fruits, plus intense medicinal notes, which fade into bitterness. The alcohol is present and could do with some taming, although a little oxidation already helps. The finish is a constant interplay of esters and medicinal aromas, a kind of overripe tropical fruit stand just before the operating theater. I don't perceive the sweet wine finish to be too dominant here, only in the finish is a little more of the heavy sweetness more clearly recognizable. I cannot agree with the very restrained overall rating, the release delivers what is to be expected - no more, but also no less.

O.k. o.k., this one is a lot better than the one with the Madeira finish. CoR has probably just got its act together. The finish doesn't overpower everything here. The smell is rather dominated by the glue. In the mouth, it comes across as sharp-edged and the alcohol is not really well integrated. A rum with a certain oomph in the mouth. But much better than the Madeira. An unpleasant acidity emerges again in the finish.

Tried at a rumshow, it might just have been the night but I was really impressed by it. Packed with flavour and as funky as you could get, if I would give it tasting notes it wouldn't sound good at all, that's how good it was! (No sarcasm) This bottle doesn't seem to get a lot of love here tho, so again I might have just been in a good mood at the time...

Die Nase ist hier wieder ganz DOK like... Ananas Papaya und Ester schöne Klebstoffnase 😁. Das Finish ist hier nur leicht zu erkennen bringt nur etwas süße und Traubige Notes ... Am Gaumen Der Alkohol mittelmäßig eingebunden... DOK noch gut zu schmecken, das Finish schlägt aber dann auch hier zu Trockenfrüchte und etwas Holzige Notes . Im Abgang ist er staubtrocken ...

Jedu třetí vzorek po Madeira a PX. Možná už jsem přesycený, ale toto mi přijde nejmíň výrazné ve vůni. Chuťově bych řekl, že je to nejostřejší vzorek ze setu a závěr ještě víc useklý než Madeira. Na to, jak Jamajky miluju, je toto pro mě ne příliš povedený kousek.

Dieser DOK ist von den drei gefinishten von CoR der bessere, jedoch auch nicht wirklich gut! Der Alkohol ist bei allen drei sehr schlecht eingebunden. Das Oloroso-Finish lässt dem DOK jedoch noch genügend Raum um sich zu entfalten. Das passt so halbwegs.

Jasný Dok, ale to staření mi nesedí, sladkost z esterů hned spadnr do divné koňakové hořkosti. Zajímal by mne původní rum, ale skoro mi přijde, že to staření tomu spíše uškodilo. jsem bohužel docela zklamaný :-(
