Here's the surprise: this cask-strength DOK smells fantastic — pineapple, papaya and that classic Hampden glue — but the Oloroso finish and short 9-month aging seem to trip it up. On the palate the alcohol runs hot and "scharfkantig" (sharp-edged), and several tasters hit a bitter, cognac-like sourness on the way out. The nose promises more than the glass delivers.

7,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is very moderate, as the rum is quite tamed.There are glue, molasses,vegetal notes with grass, tropical and dried fruits like pineapple, banana, citrus like lime, lemon peel.The wood is roasted and nutty, with caramel and spice. After airing the rum, a bit more intensive polish could be notice and also esters. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is really pleasant, round and tasty with tropical and dried fruits like figs, banana, mango, the molasses is a bit bitter with vegetal and thick, flowery and herbal, menthol, nicely rounds up the rum, the wood is roasted, dry, a bit charred with chocolate, roasted nuts.The medicinal notes are more subtile, tamed.The fruits are melted into delicious marmalade, that covers the freshly baked cake, glazed with caramel.We certainly taste red wine/sherry finish, some marzipan after nice rest and mineral touch after. 8,3:The finish is earthy, musty with cigar tobacco, woody, dry, there are overripe tropical fruits, melted into the marmelade, the molasses a bit bitter, vegetal.Nicely balanced..

No idea what went wrong here. The nose is still promising with typical dok aromas of fruit and esters accompanied by nutty oloroso sherry aromas. On the palate, however, it is quite sharp-edged and the oloroso finish is quite dominant. Still the best of the 3 finishes, even if I find all 3 rather awful.

O.k. o.k., this one is a lot better than the one with the Madeira finish. CoR has probably just got its act together. The finish doesn't overpower everything here. The smell is rather dominated by the glue. In the mouth, it comes across as sharp-edged and the alcohol is not really well integrated. A rum with a certain oomph in the mouth. But much better than the Madeira. An unpleasant acidity emerges again in the finish.

Whisky Fair Rhein-Ruhr Düsseldorf April 2026. Took a sample. A Hampden with such "bad" quality is rather rare. Sure, tropical fruits and esters are recognizable here, but otherwise rather medicinal, alcohol is also not well integrated.

This DOK is the better of the three finished ones from CoR, but not really good either! The alcohol is very poorly integrated in all three. However, the Oloroso finish gives the DOK enough room to develop. That's about right.

Once again lots of fruit esters and tropical fruits, plus intense medicinal notes, which fade into bitterness. The alcohol is present and could do with some taming, although a little oxidation already helps. The finish is a constant interplay of esters and medicinal aromas, a kind of overripe tropical fruit stand just before the operating theater. I don't perceive the sweet wine finish to be too dominant here, only in the finish is a little more of the heavy sweetness more clearly recognizable. I cannot agree with the very restrained overall rating, the release delivers what is to be expected - no more, but also no less.

The nose here is quite DOK like again... Pineapple papaya and ester nice sticky nose 😁. The finish is only slightly recognizable here brings only some sweet and grapey notes ... On the palate The alcohol is moderately integrated... DOK still good to taste, but the finish then also hits dried fruit and some woody notes. The finish is dry as dust ...

#5803 29.09.2025 Day three of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is a pretty subtle DOK and a very drinkable on in my mind. Light wood mixed well with the rotten fruit and esters. Light floral notes with nice spices and a warm palate.

This is the third sample after Madeira and PX. Maybe I'm already saturated, but this one seems the least expressive in aroma. Taste-wise, I'd say it's the sharpest sample in the set and the finish even more cut off than Madeira. For how much I love Jamaicans, this is not a very successful piece for me.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Tried at a rumshow, it might just have been the night but I was really impressed by it. Packed with flavour and as funky as you could get, if I would give it tasting notes it wouldn't sound good at all, that's how good it was! (No sarcasm) This bottle doesn't seem to get a lot of love here tho, so again I might have just been in a good mood at the time...

Sure Dok, but the aging doesn't sit well with me, the sweetness from the esters immediately drops into a strange cognac bitterness. I would have been interested in the original rum, but I almost think the aging has done it more harm.
