Great color. The nose is very nice with dark aromas, full, round, and inviting. Dried plum and then a fruity note on top. On the palate, clearly stronger notes of licorice, spiciness, some wood, and again dark dried fruits. The finish has a slight bitter licorice note, but not disturbing. Overall, a very nice bottling for fans of dark aromatics – as expected. Totally my taste.

The Ed. 39 from the Rumclub, a 2006 REV (RX16863), is already a very successful bottling, but RX16863 is no match for the Rumclub's new stroke of genius, especially on the palate. It is rounder, more complex, deeper, fuller-bodied, stronger, more palatable, sweeter, oilier. And I'm not saying that because I live in Berlin and am therefore close to the source. See for yourself. This is supposed to be a 2008 Diamond? It really seems to me that the barrel was mixed up and a REV was sent to Spirit of Rum instead of the Diamond. And not a 2006 REV, but actually a 1994. Can that really be the case? I hope there will soon be a comment function here, then I could read your direct reactions. For me, this is a hot contender for rum of the year without hesitation. Drink it and you'll agree with me. If it is a Diamond after all, which I hope will be verified by tasting experts, it seems to me to be most similar to the MDXC profile from 2004 (RX7442). Or perhaps the 96 (RX10043, RX10046)? 🤔 I'll stick with REV 1994 for now. 😉 Exciting!

Tasted at the Franconian Tasting Gang Rum Grillen event. A nice bottling for me, but nothing more really. Nothing that I really need right now. On the advanced evening/night I tried it with Jarek as a mixer in the CubaLibre, in my opinion it's not really suitable for that either.

On the nose and palate a nice MDS cask indeed. A bit ahead of the Perola/Bellamy‘s. The finish is very much on the woody and bitter side, however, which costs some points. Very solid dark Guyana column rum.

Very beautiful reddish-brown color in the glass! The nose is heavy and full-bodied, lots of dried plum/plum jam as well as roasted aromas, burnt sugar and barrel. The aromas are strong and the alcohol is noticeable with a slight sting. Over time, more aromas develop. On the palate very consistent with the nose, nice sour cherry note! The alcohol is again prominent. The long aftertaste goes as expected slightly bitter but by no means unpleasant. A very good bottling that fits perfectly into the Christmas season with its character. I especially like how consistently the rum stays the same throughout the tasting. For a rating of 90+ I miss a certain degree of "smoothness". Still a purchase recommendation.

Another super successful bottling, I am a big Guyana fan and I find these intense dark dried fruits that come through both on the nose and on the palate excellent, the wood and the pleasant sweetness of burnt sugar round off this rum. The alcohol is well integrated and it is really easy to drink. A few minutes in the glass won't do it any harm. I can't say for sure whether this is a REV or a Diamaond, but it definitely meets my taste.

So, finally in the glass.. Thanks Alex! I like the nose best.. this mix of red fruit and malty chocolate has something! I also find the palate quite balanced, although here the fruits take a back seat to the spice and wood. I would have wished for more interplay between both aromas here. In the finish I miss some depth, but it still fits. Overall a very good MDS, but for me not quite in the front runners.

Fruity, yellow fruit, sour apple, peach and overripe pineapple. Cedar wood and freshness. The palate is lively, with fruit, lots of fruit, appearing right away, followed by cedar wood (cigar box). A fine bitterness dominates the finish. A rather dark rum, even the fruit seems dark.

First of all, I tried this rum in the rum depot in front of the GRF. A very tasty, more complex Guyana with all its edges, which knows exactly how to please. It‘s way better than the Perola one, but not as the last years bottling.

You get exactly what you expect here. Raisins, prunes, sour cherries, dark chocolate, wood, some herbs in the finish and very malty. Simply delicious. The rum certainly has similarities with a REV.

A successful bottling that feels coherent and harmonious. The wood influence is clearly present but pleasantly accompanied by multifaceted and exciting Guyana notes. If you let it breathe long enough, it unfolds its full potential and gains additional balance. This is also confirmed by the time the bottle is open. With water: more molasses in the foreground. Great price/enjoyment ratio. A rum that very much depends on the day's form.

Has a great Black Forest kirsch note on the nose with dark chocolate and cherries with raisins, burnt sugar and malt. On the palate not quite the fruitiness that the nose promises and a little woody. Nevertheless, good rum for the money.

Reminds me on the nose of the Nobilis SV (Rx20892), which I had in my glass at the same time. Heavy and oily in the mouth, feels good on the tongue. Light fruity notes, caramel, malt and lots of woody, spicy aromas. I quite like it overall, but it doesn't stand out from the crowd. Edit: I liked it a little better at the 2nd tasting. Alcohol is really very well integrated!

#5133 09.03.2025 Tasting with a couple of friends at our quarterly meet up. Nose Fresh, round, light wood, faint smoke, dried fruit, light mint, faint chocolate, light orange. Palate Oily, wood, fresh, light roasted, light chocolate, spice, light mint, medium dry, faint caramel, dried fruit. Finish Long, light oily, wood, light roasted, raisin, light citrus, spice, light caramel, faint chocolate.

8,4:On the nose, at first, no sign of a rum, just woody and vegetal notes, feels like a very thick drink, molasses is herbal, dark, liqueurish, the wood intensely roasted, charred with caramelized, burnt sugar, nutty, syrupy...We could think, that we scent Ricola or Jägermeister with leathery tones. After airing, it opens up with citrus, dried fruits like prunes,raisins,some spice, later on with yellow fruits, coffee and crème brûlée.Better... 8,2:On the palate, the attack is intense, sweet and syrupy with notes of charred wood like caramelized burnt sugar, crème brûlée, coffee, nuts, as the molasses is dark and thick with a licorice, black tea and herbal notes, again we might think of a Jägermeister or Ricola...as it becomes resinous, perhaps we notice some juniper(?), as it is also a bit waxy, bitter.There are dried fruits and, thank god, after some rest red fruits, sour cherry, as it becomes tasty.... 8,2:The finish is long, at first with similar profile as the palate, but then it shows us different face with some industrial notes.. Some Spanish style meets Guyana...Ricola, Jägermeiter fesst.😆...just my humble opinion.

Aroma on the nose. Spicy, fruity, woody, slightly sweet. The taste is full of slightly burnt wood, we have some sour cherry and the plum also shines through. The 63.6% are certainly noticeable, but are somewhat lost in the relatively drinkable whole. This rum is very pleasing, especially if you consider the key data, you get a lot for your money.

Adorned with a superb ruby robe, it's a rich and indulgent Diamond that reveals itself. The nose is very concentrated, very dark on the Demerara side with chocolate, leather, tobacco, roasted notes (notably woody) and winter spices. There is also a soft side with molasses, cola, cooked caramel and burnt sugar. On the other side, the fruits are very heavy, especially on date and raisins, then bitter cherry which bring roundness to this aromatic mix. The profile is quite complex despite everything, it's very pleasant to smell. The palate is intense, dense yet very drinkable. Black tea gives a slightly more astringent touch to the palate. The sweet flavors evoked on the nose give smoothness, while the dried fruits (date, raisin) and dark fruits (berries, cherry) bring some breadth. The dark, even burnt aromas, supported by roasting, malt, leather, dark chocolate, licorice and winter spices, dominate the scene. This is what you can expect from a Demerara, both soft and characterful, with very well integrated alcohol moreover. The finish however leaves us wanting, with a bit less aroma and intensity than expected. It is drier, bitter, herbal, dark, roasted and spicy, without necessarily shining. Much better than the first Diamond bottled by the house, this Diamond is charming, structured and responsive, and cherry on the cake, is just as pleasant price-wise.

Once again, a very good hand was shown in the choice of cask. This is a Guyana rum to my taste. Dark aromas characterized by molasses, liquorice and chocolate are complemented by fine dried fruits. The aftertaste could be a little less herbal for my taste, then I would be in spirit heaven. Compared to its sister cask (RX16020), this rum is not quite as molasses-like, dark and burnt, but there is more fruit to be found. For me, both bottlings are on a par, although I like the Edition No. 46 a little better.

Insanely beautiful and inviting nose of prunes, cumquat jam, dark chocolate and treacle. The taste is a good bit more bitter and tart than expected. Liquorice, roasted malt, dark molasses and strong black tea tones together with a slight sour cherry, plum note and subtle mint in the finish. Definitely too bitter and roasty for me personally, almost burnt... all a matter of taste but not my thing, just like its predecessor.

I'm still not quite sure what to make of this bottling... Very tasty on the nose, dried fruit, burnt sugar, sweet, heavy, malty. Reminds me a little of the dark Belgian beers I like so much. It continues like this on the palate, with woody and burnt notes. Licorice, dark chocolate, black tea. Long, woody finish, with mocha and a slight mint note. A very tasty profile in itself. Nevertheless, the rum is a little too sweet and too woody on the palate for my taste. Hence a slight deduction in the overall score.

A highly anticipated bottling for me. Much has been written and praised, comparisons drawn to the legendary REV mark. Indeed, I can quite understand these associations but would at the same time disagree! The rum immediately entices with woody-sweet notes on the nose, with aromas of malt, chocolate and dried fruits, which we especially love in the REV. Besides a vegetal note (eucalyptus?), what catches me most is a sweetish component that is hard for me to pinpoint. On the palate then clearly: this is not a REV. Here too I find hints of dried fruits, but other aromas predominate for me. Malt, licorice and smoke, an oily mintiness with a trace of menthol, but then also burnt sugar and molasses. Dark, burnt and also woody bitter aromas balance the scale with sweet components, which can bring up the mentioned associations to REV, but overall this is too far off for me. More one-dimensional than the great bottlings and for my taste too bitter, this 2008 MDS is a good but not a top-class bottling. The bitter impression is too dominant for me (here I think more of KFM), the dried fruits, mint or other herbs too restrained and even the quite exciting sweetness does not fully convince me. Overall still a nice bottling that you can certainly have in your glass. Despite the limitations and "negatives" considered on their own a tasty, also exciting bottling, which fits well into the profile of Demerara rums for me.

I first came across this rum in a rumshop in Berlin, tasted it and was so impressed that I took a bottle home. The intense nose, the thick to oily flavour and the absence of the almost ubiquitous Guyanese apples make for a perfect combination of an enjoyable rum where the price/performance ratio is very good.

Tasting on the train between Prague and Hamburg, I've got time 😏 Nose: very spicy, roasted and at the same time malty chocolatey and fruity. Dried plums and dates meet blackcurrant, gooseberry, and sour cherry. Dark, sweet caramel with plenty of licorice also comes in. Not unexpected is a pleasant smoky, almost burnt note that fits well with the tobacco and wood influence. Round, tasty, I like it. 8.7 Palate: here too, the spicy, roasted-chocolate impression continues. It's strong, with a malty-sweet and salty-musky start, pecan nut and tonka bean, the dried date. Tobacco and licorice are there too. Basically as expected, high quality and really tasty. Good value for money. 8.7

After 30 minutes in the glass, the whole room smells of roasted aromas, dried fruits, and licorice. On the palate, the licorice comes out even stronger alongside typical aromas of dark chocolate, dried fruits, wood, and burnt sugar. The finish is very woody and unfortunately a bit bitter. I would say the aroma is similar to FS production. Hints of cinnamon and caramel with dried fruit and chocolate. Quite a lot of sweetness, dried fruit, caramel and quite a lot of tannin. Finishes maybe slightly minty or something similar, wood, molasses and dark chocolate.

The nose is very sweet ... Quite interesting and intense. Some kind of red fruit. On the palate it has something raisiny and licoricey. Liquorice is not necessarily my thing. Good rum. A matter of taste, they say. Corrected enormously upwards in the night tasting.

This rum took quite some time to open up, atleast over an hour, maybe even two hours. On the nose: Burnt sugar, woody notes and some dark chocolate as the main notes. On the background there is some dried fruits, malt notes and maybe some leather. Taste: Intensity at first but alcoholintegration is on quite good level. burnt sugar, malt, woody notes and dark chocolate as main notes. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and charred. In the background there is dried fruit notes and in the end you get some black tea notes. Finish: Woody notes, roasted. Minty/tea notes. Some dark chocolate notes at the end. Dry and slightly bitter. Takes a lot of time to open up and maybe the finish could be a bit better for my liking, but it really gets better when you just let it sit in the glass for two hours, from sweet burnt sugarnotes to rich dark chocolate notes.

First impression: long-aged KFM for the poor. We are unmistakably in Guyana here. Bitter, dark, leather and wood. And bitter. Strongly astringent, you can chew on the rum. You have to like that, I think it just manages to pull through. Of course, it doesn’t come close to the complexity of a 30-year-old KFM, but for a comparatively slim price, you can’t go wrong here, especially if you want to slowly get used to the older heavyweights.

On the nose, first a heavy sweetness of raisins, very reminiscent of port wine, with slight phenolic hints. Interesting mix! On the tongue comes a concentrated club of wood influence, strong oak. Along with slightly burnt caramel, brown sugar with the bitter notes slightly over the point. In the finish, many herbs, dark chocolate and a hint of dried fruit. After 2-3 minutes, a slight mint note slowly appears – which reminds a bit of After Eight in combination with the chocolate. Beautiful, edgy rum with a lot of volume and body, the nearly 64% ABV is also wonderfully integrated.

Intense smell of maple syrup, raisins, and some pungent fruit (inspired by other tastings maybe sour cherry?). On the nose, I find it very pleasant but not very complex. But it more than makes up for that on the palate. A lot happens and at least on the first tasting, I can't grasp everything. In the finish, a bit too much roasted wood for my taste but overall a great piece!

The longer the better :-) Solid Guyana from the house Spirit of Rum. Not an outstanding rum but definitely tasty if you give it 30 minutes. I have dried fruits, wood, and a certain spiciness on my tongue. Nice sipper for in between, but nothing more.

Relatively heavy, dark, and Christmassy. You have to be into that. The alcohol is very well integrated. With water, it becomes a bit more chocolaty, especially in the finish, and slightly peppery, which is not bad.

Nice part with a dark color. I find fruit and caramel, quite strong, the almost 64% is somewhat noticeable. With a little water it becomes a little more relaxed. I like it, but from memory I liked the Ed. 39 better in comparison.

I don't quite agree with my predecessor "Bauerngaumen" aka Gunnar Böhme - who was the first to rate here - in my opinion this is definitely not a swapped REV cask. Neither from 2006 nor from 1994. But I agree with him that it is a very very tasty (Diamond) drop. It's really fun to enjoy.

Nose: Sweet after burnt sugar and raisins, balanced by cedar wood, chocolate, coffee and spices. Palate: The echoes from the nose continue here, whereby the alcohol is very well integrated, as in the nose. The rum is very round and balanced. Finish: sweet, chocolaty and a pleasant bitterness remains at the end. Conclusion: very tasty and palatable rum. Absolutely recommended.

A very good and subtle Guyana very similar to REV but I detect something else there a little more cask and less fruity. If I had to compare it to Rumclub 39- 2006 it has a slightly longer finish and a nicer flavour in terms of fruitiness but still an amazing selection from Rumclub(Spirit of Rum)

Eine gute Rum mit intensive nasse typisch Holzig, würzig Lösungsmittel, Sauerkirsche, gebrannte Zucker, bißchen dunkle Schokolade und rauchig und rote Früchte. Am Gaumen von Anfang leicht, dann kommt alles gut raus intensiv, Holzig, Kirschbaumholz,gebrannte Zucker, Schokolade, schöne ölige Konsistenz. In Abgang sehr intensiv lang,warm und Holzig, bitter. Bißchen rauchige Abgang.

It definitely needs time in the glass, at least half an hour. Then it unfolds and the sharpness decreases. On the nose are dark roasted tones, red fruits, sour cherry, burnt sugar perceptible. On the palate come malty, woody notes. Also licorice and tea. The tannins from the cask work well here and push nicely. The finish is dry, woody, paired with dried fruits and allspice. The sweetness and burnt sugar are perceptible in every facet, which I don't like so much. All in all, a good rum. Personally, the individual markers don't harmonize very well together. A bit too one-dimensional (Column Still Distillation).
