Sipped neat, this is textbook Hampden <>H: glue and solvent up front, then pineapple, mango, marzipan and overripe fruit, with roasted almond and a salty-olive edge. At 68.5% the heat is real — some find the alcohol well integrated, others say it bites. A few tasters also enjoyed it in a Mai Tai. Good but familiar if you already own 2014 <>H bottlings.

I first tried at the GRF and i really enjoyed it, so I took one bottle home 😬😎 When I got home, I tried it again at my leisure and gave it more time to open up. The result is a top rum in which the 68% and the barrel is very well integrated. 👍🏻👌🏻

And here's another Ester Hampden from the 2024 Rum Festival in Berlin. Unfortunately, this one didn't really convince me either. Unfortunately not an outlier from the diverse range of <>H from the 2013/2014 series, rather a bottling that can't quite keep up with the others.

Typical Hampden nose with pineapple, glue and so on. Unfortunately also a little alcoholic. Also very good on the palate, as expected. The finish is also typical Hampden and without surprise. These inflationary high ester Hampden bottlings are quite lulling and are very similar. The intensity increases dramatically in the high-ester range in particular, but the range often decreases too. I would like to see a little more experimentation, like the Ricci family with their blends.

Today 2x 2014 <>H in the glass: the GRF Nobilis 68.5%, 10-year-old (3 tropical), the FRC 67.3%, 9-year-old (5 tropical). The differences on the nose are really small. Both with fermented fruit, cake / baking mix, cream. The FRC is perhaps a little rounder. But that could also be due to the slightly lower ABV. On the palate, both with citrus marmalade, spiciness, toasted barrel, brine. I like the FRC a little better here too, somehow rounder.

GRF 2024 fair tasting. Good Hampden from 2014, slightly drier on the finish, with plenty of classic Jamaican notes. Solid selection, fits in seamlessly with the 2014 releases already available without standing out.

Initially, there are significantly more aromas from the cask on the nose than in the representatives in the cross-comparison. Over time, the fruity notes become more present, but without coming to the fore. The palate is similar to the nose, with lots of barrel aromas, some fruit and spices. Stands out somewhat from the other young representatives of the <>H Marks. Alcohol very well integrated.

I generally like this bottling very much ... It's not a revelation or anything new but it's solid. Nice fruit esters marzipan pineapple banana and some roasted almond . All in all completely ok . In Mai Tai even better than neat for me.

Next please. The Nobilis bottling from the German Rumfestival, which I couldn't persuade to buy on the spot. So here's a second attempt. Here I have a little banana on the nose and a little more wood compared to the bottleshop, which makes the rum seem a little more restrained at first. A little less dry on the palate than the bottleshop before. Lots of marzipan and pineapple. Difficult to find a winner here. The alcohol is a little stronger in the nobilis. In the end, the bottleshop has the edge.

I really like the flavor profile, but the alcohol is a bit too present on the palate and finish. On the palate I especially like the salty/olive part, alongside the classic overripe fruits, with lots of esters, glue and some wood.

Certainly not the best bottling of the vintage, but this is still impeccable Hampden quality. Beautiful estery notes, marzipan and tropical fruits (pineapple). However, it does not come close to the great 2014 bottling from Ricci.

Solid, very good Hampden without any big surprises with the usual aromas from the Jamaican distillery. But not better than the cheaper alternatives in the high-ester range that can be found on the market.

#5278 24.04.2025 Running some samples while listening to Goa Trance 2025 by Revealed Recordings. Nose Wood, tannins, light roasted, ester, light glue, pineapple, overripe, light banana, faint marzipan. Palate Wood, tannins, light roasted, ester, light polish, light spicy, light caramel, faint marzipan, spice, pineapple, fruits. Finish Medium to long, wood, tannins, fruits, ester, overripe, light banana, pineapple. Empty glass Faint smoke, light marzipan, light olive, faint honey, light licorice. German Rum Fest 2024 sample. I had this rum straight from the barrel earlier in the year, at which point I think it was a lot better.

In my opinion, this is a rather disappointing Hampden. Sure, you can recognize the typical markers of tropical fruits (pineapple and banana), as well as esters, but for me, there's too much glue and it's too alcoholic.

Tasted against the older Nobilis No. 14 / RX12016. Both are quite similar on the nose and on the palate. However, No. 14 has noticeably more complexity and creaminess to offer. Nevertheless, this does not change the fact that this new bottling for the GRF is also a very good representative of the medium-matured Hampden <>H bottlings that I like so much. Gets my recommendation at the issue price of 135€. Rating "Not as good as its predecessor, but still good."

Trade fair tasting. Good Hampden for the money in my opinion. You can take it with you without hesitation for the price I think. Everything in it that a Hampden needs ... one for every day I think. price is also totally fine

Delicious new Diamond from nobilis. Intense pastry notes, almost reminiscent of Christmas cookies. Also roasted almonds, marzipan, overripe fruit such as gooseberry and pineapple and a slight acidity. Slightly salty, fruity and thick. Alcohol very well integrated!

Side-by-side of ten recent-ish 2014 <>H bottlings: On the nose the bottlings are pretty much on a comparable level. RumClub and Family Ricci take the crown today, showing a bit more fruitiness relatively speaking. Overall the bottlings with some reduction provide noticably less intensity. I prefer the higher/full proof bottlings here. Again, on the palate the factor to set the different bottlings apart comes down to fruitiness and alcohol integration. Among the lower ABV bottlings the V&M Star(h)um takes the crown with TWJ coming in second. The difference in ABV is even more pronounced on the palate with the full proof version clearly ahead. Overall winner here is the RumClub, followed by Family RIcci again. Most balanced with lots of funk yet also a good amount of cask impact and good alcohol integration. All in all non of the bottlings is bad in any way. There are only minute differences in the bottlings and the winner might change on another day. I‘m very curious to see how the vintage will develop over time - assuming we‘ll see some more bottlings in the coming years.

A little too woody for me, lacking fruity notes

The color is quite light, golden and leaves quite a few tears on the glass. The nose is immediately reminiscent of solvent, Patex glue, as is often the case with High Ester. The traditional fruity procession follows, pineapple/mango forgotten for too long in the fruit basket. There's harlequin candy, but also dry, musky spices (gingerbread with honey). For once, not too much ripe banana. The flavors are more tangy. There are also nuts (pecans). I've had rums that were much more aggressive on the olfactory cells with a higher alcohol content, which is already a sign of good integration. I've also had Hampdens that scented the room much more with the power of their esters. Here, it's more restrained yet racy. On the second nose, the alcohol is fruity, with a hint of Mon Chéri or Papy's mirabelle plum. In the first taste, the alcohol wakes up and it rocks. My fillings cling to the tooth enamel with all their might. It's very heavy, fat but fruity despite the ageing. The cane juice is still very present, more present than any Hampdens I've ever tasted, even younger. Pecan and cashew nuts are also extremely present, with a background of dates and passion fruit on the second palate. It's very harmonious and delicate under the torrent of ethanol heat. With each sip, I discover a new character in retro-olfaction. It's very rich, very complex, and it would be complicated to list all the markers I feel. This is clearly not a rum for someone new to rum.

Too young and not significant fruity tadte for H ... Hampden is a distillery producing incredible smelling rums. That's why part of its production is used as a base material for perfumes. I recommend to taste the smooth and yet tastefully incredibly rich rums older than 20 years, or very young rums with a high ester content called DOK. Don't be afraid of high alcohol content ;)

Rather alcoholically sharp on the palate. After the RdL HGML, this one unfortunately goes down quite a bit. Nevertheless, solid cask strength <>H with slight weaknesses. Edit: my rating remains as it was originally, but I would like to add that my perception at the time of tasting may have been clouded by the previously tasted 86% Monster HGML from RdL, as it otherwise received consistently positive feedback.

A bottle that Kevin from GRF 2024 brought from Berlin and opened with me - thanks for that! Nice <>Hampden, which is not too pleasing, but also has rough edges. The alcohol is not quite optimally integrated, but in my opinion this gives it more character than more pleasing bottlings. It also has the expected notes of ester, light roasted aromas, overripe fruit and hints of marzipan.

Tried on the 13th GRF. Very good <>H with the classic profile. As I currently have the 2014 from WDC in my glass very often, the similarities were obvious. Tasted very good to me. P/L definitely good too, but if you already have a few from this vintage like me, you won't discover anything new. But that doesn't make the rum any worse. Therefore a very good bottling. I like it.

18/07/2026: rum tasting @ Stijn. 19/09/2026: retasting @ home. A typical Hampden nose and the palate is good as expected. Just not very special or spectacular. It's 68,5% ABV, but integrated surprisingly well.

Very nice Hampden nose, I like the strong glue in this one. Alcohol could be better integrated. Over the whole line good typical Hampden but a bit one dimensional. Finish a bit short for me. Ok rum for its price.
