Some tasters catch a rum-tequila hybrid; others chew on it like a bar of soap. At nearly 69% the alcohol is surprisingly well integrated. Very few will call it a rum.

The nose is wild. The "Funky Swedish Berries" I already found in Single Cask #1 are even more intense here. Alongside vinegar, leather, and smoked ham. On the palate the Swedish, very fruity berries explode and leave sweetness and a slight smoked ham note. The alcohol is well integrated. Crazy aroma profile. The finish is unfortunately not very long, only some cotton candy remains. An interesting rum, the aroma profile is intense and quite unique, but could be even more complex. I can't understand the rather poor ratings here.

So here are the three different Mexican rums in the glass that BananaJoe managed to find somewhere. Unfortunately no unicorns, which was to be expected. My conclusion: nice to have tried something like this, but unfortunately nothing more.

It was really nice to taste this one, but that's about it. It tastes really rotten... A few herbs are recognizable, but unfortunately that's it :-(. There are better rums.

6,8:On the nose, pungent notes bump into our nosetrils, rotten, alcoholic, a lot of agave, herbaceous and vegetal, there are black tea and tobacco, nutty wood, spicy with ginger, resinous. On aeration, faint fruits arise, hay, olive and chamomile, flowery touch, roasted, caramelized notes, corn. 6,6:On the palate, the attack is herbaceous, vegetal with olive, the wood is smoky, roasted with bacon, sweet overripe fruits, rotten and pungent, with agave(tequila), black tea and flowery touch.Some medicinal notes, soapy and esters come out, when the rum is oxidized. 6,7:The finish is medium long, sweet with caramel, fruity, rotten, the wood is spicy, slightly roasted with confectionery, some hay is there..

Nose: herbal lemonade, resin, hay, little alcohol, sweet, young wood. The herbal, resinous notes first make me think of T.D.L. Palate: phew, clearly more alcohol than expected! Again herbs and resin, also wet hay. Has something of a mountain herbal schnapps 😁 Alcohol about 50-55%. I have no idea where to place it. Most likely T.D.L. Aftertaste quite long and like nose and palate. Not bad but very untypical for rum. Reveal: RX21165 Otto's High Drive. Alcohol is actually almost 70% and very well integrated!

On the nose sour olive brine, olive oil, grapefruit vanilla. On the palate... a bit of kumquat when not fully ripe yet, sour bitter and again green olives. Relatively alcoholic. Very interesting though not really my thing.

The third Alambique Serrano today, which is not convincing in direct comparison. Nevertheless, it is interesting with lots of floral notes, olive and herbs. From nose to finish, however, it also has something rotten about it. Alcohol well integrated. In summary, interesting, but not my thing. With spicy ginger it could be something in a long drink.

3x Cañada Alambique Serrano from Mexico: None of them really convinced me, so I'll stick with just the three samples. This one was my least favorite of the trio, even though I think I detected a slight note of gingerbread.

Something really crazy here. Tastes like a rum-tequila hybrid. Young but quite nicely matured. The alcohol comes through clearly but is well embedded for 68.9%. Wonder if it works in a daiquiri?

Honestly difficult to rate. Smells like a herbal candy that fell into wet hay next to the burnt agave in the vegetable patch. The longer it oxidizes, the more barnyard notes come through. Crazy nose. In a positive way, I think. Slightly sweet on the palate, lots of herbs (mainly thyme) and lots of hay.

That is an unusual rum. Herbally, flowery, baked sweets, some salt and smokeyness. Alcohol integration a bit harsh compared the blanc one. I like it but in small amounts.

Today two Mexican exotics. The 2022 Otto is already really extreme on the nose with ginger, Ricola herbal candy, kumquat, allspice. The 2021 is much tamer, more caramel-chocolatey. On the palate, the Otto feels like chewing on a piece of soap. The 2021 is also much more pleasant here. Both 'interesting' but the sample is really enough 😅.
