Delias Whiskyshop T.D.L Delias Tropical Rum Cat (Collection No 1) 2006
"The surprise of the tasting night," one taster called it — gawky and a bit sharp on the nose at first, then it opens into mint chocolate, caramel, milk chocolate and roasted nuts. A few people taste sour cherry and plum too. Most agree it drinks soft for 60%, but reads sweetened and not very TDL. Give it real time in the glass.
- Mint chocolate notes
- Soft for 60%
- Creamy, roasted nuts

Aggregated from 14 community reviews.
Soft, chocolate-mint TDL that reads sweetened People like it as a chocolatey, mint-driven sipper that needs air, but several find it sweetened, short on the finish and a touch boring — not the complexity a 17-year cask-strength promised.

The surprise of the tasting evening. Initially disappointingly ordinary and somewhat pungent on the nose, the rum develops more and more into a smooth distillate with strong hints of mint chocolate, especially on the palate. For me, the best TDL of the mixed 2006 vintage. Very well done, Delia!

It tastes like bkend of weak TDL and Rumbullion! rum = definitely infused and lightly sweetened. So I do t believe it is pure distilate...

Now finally tasted it again in peace. I actually already had this with Piotr and Marta (Precious Liquors) at the GRF at 3am in the hotel bar, but then lost all memories (the bottle was probably empty 🤣). What I have to say from what I knew at the time, it definitely closes you down. Now I would say it's quite good, but it also needs a good amount of time in the glass.

8:On the nose, the first impression we get is minty, woody, as it is roasted, toasted with nuts, caramel. The molasses is vegetal. There are pleasant bourbon yellow fruits. On aeration, the wood is resinous, waxy, more burnt with milk chocolate, vanilla. Grassy note comes out and some citrus. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is woody and fruity, bourbon like, as the wood is roasted and spicy with caramel, maple, biscuits, creamy, balanced, actually delicious. The fruits are yellow, molasses vegetal with mint. After the rest, industrial notes burst out with tar, a bit bitter and waxy with resinous, earthy(musty), dry wood, maybe juniper. Our tasting buds are also attacked with tasty marzipan, sour cherry and flowery notes.Balanced and round. 8,1:The finish is long, woody, dry, bourbony and bitter with tar, vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, some spice and mint...

Delia's whisky store has selected its first rum, let's see... The nose reminds me of after eight, so slightly artificial mint, too bad I don't have any for comparison, but it's exciting. On the palate I'm struggling at first, typical TDL notes are hard to make out at first, more plum and sour cherry here. Interesting bottling but not quite to my taste. Reminds me more of a Spanish rum style at the end.

First impression right after opening was not good. This release indeed need stay in glass for a bit. This will help on the nose but especial in mouth. Color is dark. Alcohol well integrated, light and delicate. You can find hint of typical menthol however there is lot of dirth so it brings you somewhere between Caroni and Guyana. Unfortunately very short and too light (kind of waterish) despite those 17 years in barrel. Still nice to sip and for the price good value.

A nice, but rather boring column style rum. It seems somewhat sweetened.
