Surprise number one: the pencil-shavings and licorice edge, which a couple of tasters swore hinted at old Demerara rather than Fiji. Underneath it's classic South Pacific — ester, glue, fresh banana and "fabrikneue Fahrradschläuche" (new bicycle inner tubes), with honey, lemon and a buttery, almost yoghurty note. At 65% cask strength it's intense; most found the alcohol well integrated, one or two found it more brutal than complex.

Won a sample set of the 4 new Sea Shepherd from Kirsch. THANK YOU 🙏. Here is the continental matured pot still molasses rum from Fiji... Nose: mmhhh, intense, concentrated, delicious. Fiji essence. Sweet glue and solvent, esters, tropical fruits. Passion fruit and physalis. Almost honey sweetness with citric acid. Now comes the typical buttery yoghurt note with workshop oil and pencil lead. I like it very much. 8.5 Palate: a great Fiji experience here too. Glue and esters with varnish, mechanic's oil and pencil lead. Buttery with licorice and wooden barrel. I can't say much more. Pretty good. 8.5

The Fiji esters and alcohol immediately flood the nose. In the mouth it is again very alcoholic, so that undiluted there is little to perceive in terms of taste apart from the esters (hardly any fruit, sometimes drifting into bitterness, a little cardboard and cardboard). The rum opens up a little with plenty of time. Overall, more brute than complex, which is probably due in particular to the alcohol content.

8,1:On the nose, the opening attack is from esters, glue.With settling a bit, honey, tropical fruits and lemon are found with roasted wood notes as pastry and spice like pepper.A molasses is earthy with pencil shavings. On aeration, perhaps we notice a banana or an apple, then nuts, as the rum becomes buttery with dried fruits and a licorice...green peppers there also?Might be... 8,2:On the palate, the attack is intense with esters, apple, citrus, honey, some varnish, a bit smoky, as the wood is roasted with nuts, chocolate, brown sugar, a molasses brings pencil shavings, dry hay and licorice, a cardboard note is obvious, later on dried fruits and spices...when well rested, the wood is resinous. 7,9:The finish is medium long with roasted, smoky wood notes like nuts, chocolate, crunchy bread, spicy with an anise, green pepper, there are perhaps some green fruits, citrus and earthy molasses with pencil shavings, licorice...

#4964 30.08.2024-01.09.2024 Had a great time both before and after the event. Friday was opening party on a boat with Dirk and Saturday and Sunday meeting up with new and old friends Nose Medium intense, fresh, faint wood, ester, light citrus, glue, light varnish, fruits. Palate Intense, warm, light wood, faint smoke, light citrus, ester, glue, light varnish, light nutts. Finish Long and warm, faint wood, ester, fruits, light polish, faint nutts, faint anise.

On the nose and in the mouth, this is a concentrate of the South Pacific Distillery reduced to the essentials with the typical notes of fresh banana as well as brand-new bicycle inner tubes and esters, intense and delicious. The whole thing also has a surprisingly creamy mouthfeel, although the distillate reveals its flavors in the mouth quite vividly due to the alcohol strength. Interestingly, there are also facets to this rum that I actually associate with a Port Mourant or Versailles, such as the ever-present, planed pencils and the spicy licorice background. It's fun!

For tasting as a sample directly from Kirsch. Fiji, how I love you. Beautiful, middle-aged Fiji rum. Almost unusually round, the classic plastic note is very discreet. What surprises me is the herbal note, which reminds me most of pencil. Pencil in Fiji? The attentive reader will discover a hint of rum cask maturity. So not a classic bourbon cask, but a rum cask that has already been used. Possibly Guyana, even Enmore? Unfortunately, this is not stated on the sample, but perhaps we'll find out. Otherwise, a bottling that I really like!

Super bottling, from the new series that I like best. Amazing ester and sweet fruits at first. Pleasant buttery stickiness on the palate, with honey and overripe fruit. Alcohol is also well integrated.

After pouring the sample, the glass exudes intense high ester and sticky notes that immediately scream "Jamaica". Surprisingly, after a little standing time, slightly vegetable aromas are added. This profile continues in the mouth, especially the grassy, green notes that linger on the front tip of the tongue and repeatedly hint at Haiti. There is also a slight, but not unpleasant bitterness and herbal note. You get the impression of having a blend from Jamaica (Long Pond) and Haiti (Clairin Sajous) in your glass. The alcohol is perfectly integrated at 65% and doesn't bite in the mouth in any way. Somehow a wacky and interesting profile that you should definitely try.

Takes some time. Beautiful nose. Fruity, spicy, a little glue, a little pneu. Palate: Citrus fruit predominates. Lemon, lime, grapefruit and glue. Slightly floral and a little spicy on the finish, could still be a little more complex or rounder. Slightly sharp but ok for the alcohol content.
