Fine parallel tasting of RX20517 and RX21400 Both 2009s, both 13 years old, both around 63%. So they should be similar. Yes, that's true on the nose: both slightly minty, the TWJ a little smokier, the Roots a little woodier. But what a difference on the palate! The TWJ is really super nice, with perfect TDL DNA, beautifully balanced and minty. But the Roots is brute! Pure mint. Really challenges the tongue. It tingles. I like that very much! Conclusion: I feel a bit sorry for the very good TWJ, but the popping Roots is the clear winner of the evening.

Three T.D.L. in comparison: Swell: Very decent and relaxed TDL, which does not taste at all like 20 years of barrel aging. On the palate creamy sweet with the usual mint note, balanced with light fruits. The finish is very short and simply sweet minty with olives. 80 points. TWJ 2009: By now I find the 2009 vintage among the best. Lots of fruit, present in intense quality from start to finish. Particularly striking is the caramelized honeydew melon. The mint still has the last word in the finish =D Very awesome piece 87 points. Ricci 2003: The "heaviest" of the three. A full-bodied mint candy bomb. On the palate the mint becomes more intense, the fruits darker. Great rum, lots of mint. 85 points. Alcohol is top integrated in all. Due to the short finish the Swell falls a bit.

Reminds me of the Flensburg / Bottleshop TDL 2009. On the nose fruity-sweet, caramel, mint, also some dirty notes. On the palate toasted cask, fruit (mango), menthol, slightly bitter finish.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is very fruity with peaches, lemon peel and dried fruits like apricots, currants, as we quickly notice menthol, roasted, spicy wood notes like caramel, leather, nuts, nougat and molasses with black tea. On aeration, it becomes waxy, dirty, some new fruit notes join the show like pear, yellow fruits, tropical fruits with passion fruit, kiwi, then gooseberry and mandarine. These fruit notes nicely balance tannins and industrial notes like petrol. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is fruity, dirty industrial and sweet, creamy with roasted wood notes like caramel, nuts and vanilla, there is a tar, the fruits are tropical with passion fruit, mango and dried with apricots, currants, raisins, later peaches, citrus and gooseberries.The molasses is dark with black tea, minty and earthy, floral. The rum is complex, but round, damn' delicious. 8,7:The finish is long, dry with woody notes from palate, a bit tannic, bitter, industrial with petrol, tar and fruity with dried and tropical fruits...After a while a crunchy bread note pops up. Significantly more roasted aromas and barrel influence than most T.D.L.s in crosstasting. A slightly perfumed attack on the palate, then wood, caramel, mint and a subtle sweetness. Alcohol well integrated. I like it very much.

Strong stuff. On the nose mostly mint and black tea. On the palate also mainly mint, and also menthol. Also somehow very intense this rum. Alcohol is very well integrated. Strong stuff.

#5570 18.08.2025 Enjoying a few samples after a hard day at work. Nose Fresh, round, light wood, fruity, light mint, spice, light earthy, faint caramel, light berries, light floral. Palate Oily, light wood, faint smoke, mint, light berries, light spicy, faint tannins, light peach, light leather. Finish Medium to long, light wood, faint smoke, mint, light orange, light roasted, light tannins, light peach. Empty glass Peach, light leather, mint, light berries. Needs to rest for a while to settle properly. Nice minty notes in the profile.

This is once again a successful TDL release to my taste. It is quite complex and meets my minty, woody, spicy expectations. Especially on the palate, quite a few and nicely sortable flavor aromas from creamy sweet, through minty fruity to spicy woody can be detected. It’s fun to roll it on the tongue for a long time, top

Even if some will hate me for this rating, this T.D.L bottling is personally just too minty and mentholated for me. Somehow it doesn't really appeal to me. I'm probably just oversaturated. Otherwise, it's basically solid.

Great, strong bottling. Insanely complex, dirty, fresh, minty, smoky, woody, leathery! Really round and powerful. Really fun!!!! Even the smoky note I like very much. Great stuff!

Nice 2009 TDL with the typical minty-fruity aroma profile. Very tasty, but for my taste doesn't stand out much from other typical representatives of this vintage. Edit after re-tasting: Really beautiful nose with mint and yellow fruits. Also great on the palate with nice balance. Compared to the TDL 2009 Bottleshop it lacks some of that beautiful oily heaviness. Still a great bottling.

Tasted at SDR’24 On the nose fresh, fruity and playful with notes of fresh peaches, lemon gratings and both fresh mint and artificial menthol. With more time and air, interwoven parts of herbal tea, sugared nuts and old leather appear. In the mouth incredibly impactful and quite dirty. First fruity and cool with the same notes as on the nose, but dialed up to a 100 and firing from all engines. Then extremely herbal and heavy with medicinal notes entering the field. The back of the palate is dominated by parfum, thyme and a petrol chaser. The finish is long, concentrated and dirty. Fresh, yet heavy, with more lemon zest and eucalyptus as well as pinetree, petrol and molasses syrup. Quite a rare thing to find in Europe, but what a flavour bomb.

Creamy TDL Mittler for China. The typical TDL menthol notes are present and super tasty. Plus a bit of fruit and a slight creaminess (but nowhere near as huge as with Katzen TDL 😂). The alcohol is wonderfully integrated. Worth a bottle for me.
