Floral and fruity on the nose (stone fruit, passion fruit), plus old barrel. Candied on the palate, cardboard, brine, but also somewhat watery.

This Uitvlugt from The Whisky Jury doesn't really inspire me. On the nose, I perceive quite sweet aromas of cherry and similar fruits that remind me more of a Ten Cane. On the palate, the expected aromas, but unfortunately in far too thin a ratio. Alcohol is not noticeable. The finish is relatively short.

#5568 18.08.2025 Enjoying a few samples after a hard day at work. Nose: Round, medium intense, balanced, wood, light rubber, light anise, faint tar, light vanilla, light plum. Palate: Round, oily, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light plum, spice, light rubber, faint tar, faint apple. Finish: Medium to long, oily, wood, faint smoke, prunes, light medicinal, spice. Empty glass: Prunes, light apple, faint herbs, cinnamon.

As expected, I was once again looking forward to a few pencil shavings, which I could also taste. Unfortunately, this bottling is a little too sour for me overall. Nice to have tried, but there are better ones.

The Port Mourant profile is already recognizable, but unfortunately it is a bit thin, but of course very smooth. Slight peaty whisky note in the finish.

Somewhat mixed feelings here due to the key data. Nose ok. Grassy, earthy, woody and a little fruit. Quite thin in the mouth at first and, in my opinion, meaningless. But then the notes from the nose come to the fore. Plus a subtle "perfume note" (floral). Quite a short finish.

Well... Reminds me more of gin than rum. It has something of juniper distillate, old, wet shoebox and this strange light acidity and minerality. Quite strange, also seems extremely watered down, I also suspect an ex-Scotch cask here, seems slightly peaty and salty in the finish. Too bad.

A rum you can try but don't necessarily have to. For me, it tastes a bit too thin, especially for the long time in the barrel. Very vegetal and also bitter on the finish. This type of Guyana rums you either like or don't, as the reviews show.

24/01/2026: tasted @ Liquid Leuven 2026. I liked the flavours of this Uitvlugt. The almond/frangipane notes might be a bit monotonous and it lacks some complexity, but the finish is decent in length. Very drinkable at this ABV.

The nose reveals a fantastic build-up of elements starting with primarily dry elements such as prunes, gingerroot, vanillastalk, raw almonds and pencil shavings. After a couple of minutes of breathing it turns more dessert-like with hints of praline, white chocolate, yoghurt and the slightest touch of sliced banana. The palate is rather dense, more woody and spicy. Less fruits, more white pepper, juniper, salt and walnut skins. Touches of furniture polish, pencil shavings and green tea complete the profile. The mouthfeel is a little too thin and volatile as a result. The finish is short, dry and spicy with prunes, dry wood, salt and pepper.

Relatively strong nose. Relatively leathery spices are present here. On the palate, I can taste pome fruit... apple or pear. Almost some Calvados-like notes are also there. Not a beginner rum. Stays well in the aftertaste. Strongly downgraded in the second tasting.

Another rum that leaves me somewhat perplexed. Basically a typical Port Mourant with pencil shavings, some wood and leather and a slight, not unpleasant bitter note. The whole thing is disturbed by a sour note both on the nose and in the mouth. On the one hand, this is an interesting variation, but on the other hand, in my opinion, it is a false note that ruins the PM profile.
