The Whisky Jury Hampden The Many Faces Of Rum 2000
People already deep into Hampden are the audience here: a 23-year pot-still LROK with the familiar yellow-fruit, pineapple, ester and varnish profile, plus a licorice note several tasters loved on the finish. At 52% it drinks round and balanced. But the long time in cask split the room — some found it harmonious, others called it flat and a touch thin for the age.
- Classic Hampden esters
- Long licorice finish
- Round and balanced

This is a beautifully complex Hampden with plenty of funk and steam. Classic on the nose and a perfect interplay of spice, sweetness, tropical fruit, some wood and esters on the palate. The finish continues this aromatic journey for a long time! Top

In direct comparison with the SoR Ed. 21 (Rx11106), more spice and wood on the nose and less esters, licorice and fermentation. The SoR reminds me strongly of the HD LROK The Younger 2016, whereas the TWJ is slightly reminiscent of the 1992 HLCFs on the palate. In a direct comparison, the TWJ is just ahead for me.

A soft, polished Hampden. An attempt to create a Hampden for everyone, but why? My opinion is marketing: to please everyone. It drinks well and will appeal to beginners. 86, although it could be rated higher.
Review by Schnubbi
Very well-rounded, unexcited Hampden with no rough edges and no unique selling point or impact. A boring crowd pleaser. There really are more interesting Hampden.

This Hampden is a disappointment for me. Yes, the typical aromas are recognizable, but somehow it is totally flat and boring. I had expected much more. Especially for the price. There are quite a few bottlings from the distillery that are much better and also much more attractive in terms of price.

All in all, what you'd expect from a Hampden, pretty unexciting. The price that is being asked for it is not worth me getting a whole bottle of it. Nice to have tried, but nothing memorable. In my opinion, it's simply been in the cask too long and has lost a lot of its character as a result, and it seems a little too thin without that certain oomph.
Review by Johnny Rumcask
Typical Hampden nose with the well-known and beloved esters, yellow fruits etc. Rather disappointing on the palate: the notes are all there, but strongly muted by the long ageing. The barrel has clearly left its mark here. The fruity esters have faded into the background. The finish is long and the aftertaste is more pleasant again. Should have been taken out of the barrel earlier.
