Pineapple, glue and nail polish charge out of the glass, backed by banana and marzipan from the young virgin oak. At 84.5% this is a Hampden ester bomb, yet tasters keep marveling how drinkable it is for the strength. A few drops of water pull out peach and papaya. Short finish shows the two years, but the alcohol is remarkably well integrated.

It's incredible how accessible this rum is, even though it's 85%. Nonetheless, it is and remains a mega ester bomb and despite being as powerful as a lion. A few drops of water help to make it smoother, and other fruity notes such as peach and papaya also unfold. Really delicious!

GRF13: The second high-proof short-stored HGML version of RdL for the GRF... and I'm thrilled again. It's not quite as strong as the first time, but it's certainly convincing. It's always amazing how you can make such high-proof alcohol so drinkable. I have to confess that I'm a confirmed HGML fan, so my euphoria may be taken into account here 😇

Thanks to Kim from Romdeluxe, we were able to compare it directly with its predecessor, as he provided us with the rest of a sample. Not bad in my opinion, but I thought the predecessor was better. The price put me off buying one, it just wasn't worth it to me.

Tasted again at leisure after the GRF. Pineapple, almond, esters and light smoke. Creamy and intense. Despite a slight burn in the aftertaste, the alcohol is well integrated at a strong 84.5%. Nice to have tried it, but I don't need a whole bottle.

Great piece once again. Wild Series through and through. But the alcohol is incredibly well integrated. You don't notice much of the actual rum, but that's not surprising given the short storage period. Is it worth the 200€? I don't think so, but it's still a great experience.

Another great release. In my opinion, however, it is clearly inferior to the first HGML. Alcohol not as well integrated as in the first one, taste less of the HGML. Not worth the price for me.

8,8:On the nose, high esters, glue and nail polish with fermented, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana and citrus are the first thing we notice. On aeration, roasted wood with marzipan, caramel and pastry bump out, spices, especially vanilla, stewed strawberry with honey, vegetal molasses with an olive and a hint of mushrooms, a whiff of smoke.Great balance for this ABV. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is intense, funky with medicinal notes like esters, glue and fermented tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, mango, red fruits that bring marmelade tones, all in cooperation with roasted wood notes like pastry, marzipan, marshmallows, nuts like almond, as with smokiness a crunchy bread comes out.The wood brings also spices like clove, vanilla and salt, as vegetal notes like olive come from molasses. 8,7:The finish is round and dry with typical high esters Hampden markers, a rhubarb comes as a balancing act to sweet wood, fruity notes. The latest 80 % + monster from Romdeluxe, this time with a short maturation in virgin oak. The influence of the cask is noticeable throughout, covering quite a few aromas in the nose, where I particularly notice the artificial nail polish that joins the typical Hampden aromas. The alcohol is of course noticeable, but the cask influence is so strong that you have to remind yourself of the 80+. Unfortunately, this also dominates the palate and takes away some of the flavor intensity that is typical of this brand.

GRF fair tasting. Tasted it relatively early in the day: Yes, alcohol is really top integrated and flavor-wise it absolutely delivers. Pineapple, almond, ester, solvent and more tropical fruit. But I didn't take a bottle with me after all.

A very nice nose, marzipan meets pineapple and glue. On the palate unexpectedly sweet, again delicious marzipan, again pineapple, slightly smoky and warm. Alcohol obviously noticeable, but for over 80% unexpectedly tame. Very tasty and interesting.

A great piece! 84.5% and only 2 years in virgin oak... Why does it drink so well? Very, very tasty. Almond cookies, pineapple, esters and lots of punch and great wood aromas. Super balanced for such a beast!

Great Hampden, even if the high ABV is noticeable, still super integrated.. Otherwise typical Hampden, lots of esters, but also overripe tropical fruits, banana and pineapple. Also a bit of glue and solvent detectable.

Uff - even in the second tasting after over an hour of rest still a beast. As usual with Hampden, I really like the nose. Even though you can already tell it’s going to be quite brutal. On the palate, you have to process it first. Not particularly complex, but besides the sharpness there remains a nice sweet pineapple/glue note. For the price, I don’t need a whole bottle, but I like it. So I upgraded it by a point.

Another sample from last year from the 13th GRF. My favorite HD Marque with RdL's typical crazy ABV. Nose: Great, fine esters, overripe pineapple and banana with passion fruit, plus sweet-sour lemon and lime. Nicely captured by honey and toffee. The strong alcohol is fantastically integrated. 8.4 Palate: Top esters and quite astringent at first. Lemon and pineapple with passion fruit, maybe also mandarin. Fine glue and marzipan. All in good balance. You can clearly feel the over 84%, but it doesn't come off overly alcoholic, the esters just crack the taste buds first. I really like it a lot. 8.4

Hoher ABV, der dann doch erstaunlich brav um die Ecke kommt. Sowas wäre wohl nicht aus jeder Destillerie auf dieser Welt überhaupt trinkbar. Spannend zu sehen, aber dann doch auch wirklich ein Einhorn, für das ich irgendwie auch keine Verwendung habe. Kann man aber mal machen!

High ester, high power. Still easy to drink. You notice the virgin oak barrel and the young age. Still a great rum. The price tag corresponds to what you know from RdL. All in all, a really cool piece with insane intensity.

It is very strong rum but well complex and round. On the nose it is very intense, very fresh, funky and high-ester, lacquer and tropical fruits like pineapple. On the palate it is very strong, fresh with young wood, lots of esters and brine but round, the high alcohol content is very well integrated. On the finish warm and long with good fresh wood notes.

In all rums from this distillery you can feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. A brutal rum where the Virgin Oak cask works well. But honestly, the very high alcohol content is a beast. You really need to know what you're doing. Far from a daily sipper. I like it, but I rarely have this bottling in my glass anymore. The rest went into sample bottles. Just too much. For me, the ultra-high proof rum drinking time is over.

Extreme ABV value, yet a very drinkable piece. Already on the nose a ripe basket full of bananas, pineapple, but also glue. On the palate an explosion of all the above, plus sweet marshmallow tones. It's a bomb, but you need a break afterwards.

A real ester party on the nose with lots of tropical fruit, nail polish, solvents, and banana, clearly Hampden. On the palate, a true flavor explosion with tons of banana, overripe tropical fruits, and a very long, warm finish. With water, more wood comes out but also more bite; I definitely prefer it neat. Not for the faint-hearted, but enormously intense.
