Very tasty typical Hampden nose lots of mango banana papaya and some marzipan/almond. Nice fruit esters . Alcohol very well integrated. On the palate Alcohol also relatively well integrated here. Mango pineapple papaya dominate, no surprises but for me very tasty and successful. Mai Tai test is still pending.

Oh yes, this hits my taste once again. Thanks to BananaJoe for organizing and sharing. It really puts you in a good mood. Unfortunately I only had 5cl. The only thing left is a cola mixer. I would have loved to try it in the MaiTai.

8,5:On the nose, there is an ester bomb, full of fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, papaya and medicinal notes like polish. We quickly receive pairing with vegetal side, with an olive. On the top, there is a honey glazure. When aired, roasted notes come out, molasses becomes stronger, we notice tempting notes of pastry, brioche, there is some yeast... Fruits are dried now, some citrus pops up after nice rest. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity with fermented, overripe tropical fruits like maracuja, banana, pineapple, yellow fruits like mirabelle plum and a lot of spices-pepper.Fruits melt into the delicious marmelade, which is added to tasty brioches.The wood brings dryness and roasted notes, like nuts. Vegetal notes neutralize fruity sweetness, there is bitter olive, some mint, later flowery notes. Resting helps molasses to express itself in thick version, as the wood is a bit resinous with a pinch of a salt. 8,6:The finish is long and fruity, fermented, dry, there is some young wood, vegetal, citrus notes ending our tasting. Esters in fat, I would say. Very great nose: buttery, tropical overripe fruit, some solvent. In the mouth then young wood with a special roasted coffee bean-chocolate note, which I find quite cool. Comes across very well on the nose. Super drinking strength too. Only a slight imbalance in the finish due to a bitterness that doesn't suit me.

#4910 25.10.2024 relaxing at home with this nice rum 😊 Nose Intense, light wood, ester, glue, spice, light pineapple, light anise, light banana, faint marzipan. Palate Intense, light wood, ester, light polish, light glue, light pineapple, banana, spice, light olive, light salty, medium dry, faint coffee. Finish Long and warm, light wood, faint smoke, ester, light polish, banana, light anise, faint coffee. The empty glass has a more fruity touch to it as well as faint caramel.

another 2014 <>H, but with a significantly lower ABV than the previous ones I had in my glass (all 65+ %). The WJ doesn't come across as brute on the nose, which is also quite pleasant. In addition to fermented tropical fruits, there are also some creamy notes (butter cream, condensed milk). Relatively round on the palate, not quite as acidic as other high ester HDs. I quite like it!

A nice estery tropical bomb on the nose... the room immediately fills with the classic Hampden aromas... Top! Unfortunately, it can't quite keep up this strong performance on the palate... a slight bitter note at the end clouds the picture somewhat... And the palate continues on this negative path...it becomes relatively flat and short...(mind you for a high ester rum), too bad

The Ester Hunter, of course a clear ester bomb, I love that. Ester on the nose, of course, as well as tropical fruits like mango. The palate is also full of esters and tropical fruits such as banana, pineapple and passion fruit. Thanks again to Banana Joe for the great samples.

The nose leaves no doubt: this must be a rum from the Hampden distillery. The impression is quite mild for Hampden with lots of cookie dough and pineapple. The alcohol is very restrained. I guess a rum from 2013, possibly also 2007. On the palate all the impressions from the nose are confirmed and some salty, dry and cask influence is added. Also bitter orange. The alcohol is very well integrated and I estimate about 55% alcohol content. The finish is loooong and goes very much into salty dry but also the tropical fruits and vanilla sweetness appear again. A very good Hampden, possibly older than 2007? But for that I miss the cask influence. Rating 9.0

So finally the Ester Hunter in the glass. On the nose directly with the typical Hampden profile for the Mark <>H. A tropical fruit cocktail that knows how to convince. Alcohol super integrated for me. No surprise, but no disappointment either. TWJ has started a nice new series. I'm looking forward to further releases.

Super awesome ester bomb exactly to my taste with the typical Hampden aromas from nose to palate. The esters are accompanied by various tropical fruits and from the palate on by young wood. Alcohol perfectly integrated!

This one has a vibrant nose, full of ester, big tropical fruits, vanilla, some wood and glue. There is a sweetness on the nose reminiscent of some sweet - butterscotch isn’t the right word but I can’t quite put my finger on it. On the palate this is wild and intense. Esters, grilled pineapple, ferment and a hint of young wood. Not that complex but quite pleasant once the initial ester burst settles and turns into fruit.

Very nice Hampden representative. Esters, tropical fruits and varnish. As is typical for the <>H-Mark, not too overpowering, but comparatively "round" and with a slightly green note. It's exciting that the rum is so young. It would be exciting to see what this cask could have become.

Ester Hunter: Ester definitely pours out of the glass at the beginning, with yellow fruits. Round and pleasantly soft, fruit and light notes of varnish unfold. The finish is relatively short and unspectacular. I would have expected a little more power and sweetness. But pleasant to drink.

Release 1 of the Ester Hunter series from The Whisky Jury. The alcohol is well integrated. Lots of tropical fruit, ester power, relatively low acidity. Fits seamlessly into the good 2014 Hampden vintage.

Side-by-side of ten recent-ish 2014 <>H bottlings: On the nose the bottlings are pretty much on a comparable level. RumClub and Family Ricci take the crown today, showing a bit more fruitiness relatively speaking. Overall the bottlings with some reduction provide noticably less intensity. I prefer the higher/full proof bottlings here. Again, on the palate the factor to set the different bottlings apart comes down to fruitiness and alcohol integration. Among the lower ABV bottlings the V&M Star(h)um takes the crown with TWJ coming in second. The difference in ABV is even more pronounced on the palate with the full proof version clearly ahead. Overall winner here is the RumClub, followed by Family RIcci again. Most balanced with lots of funk yet also a good amount of cask impact and good alcohol integration. All in all non of the bottlings is bad in any way. There are only minute differences in the bottlings and the winner might change on another day. I‘m very curious to see how the vintage will develop over time - assuming we‘ll see some more bottlings in the coming years.

For me, the weakest nose in crosstasting. Fermented, esters, glue, varnish, slightly sweet, but somehow not so round for me. Lots of solvent, glue, ester and something medicinal on the palate. Seems a bit unbalanced overall. Will get its 2nd chance :)

Strong ester pineapple nose. Very promising. Palate already very spicy. The name Ester behind it is program. Nice strong finish. Not for beginners. Wonderful piece. I like it. In the re-tasting, it confirms the first impression.

The nose promises lots of Jamaica .... esters, one after the other. Great fruit experience. Not quite as expected on the tongue. Quite nice and fruity and tasty, but not exceptional. The alcohol is well integrated.

Unfortunately cool: Beautiful ester board. Typical Hampden notes (varnish, esters, pineapple, yellow fruits). A hint of gingerbread dough. Filigree? Thank goodness not. A Hampden that's really fun if you like esters.

As often with Hampden, the cask hasn't colored the liquid much. Its color is a straw yellow. The nose is extremely fruity, with that characteristic Hampden trait: borderline rotten pineapple, overripe mango, black and oozing banana. There is quite a bit of nail polish, polish, but it's quite heavy in brine. There is green olive in its juice, with a very salty side. We also detect more animal scents, of gamey poultry. A bit of marzipan finishes the second nose. You would think it's a much higher mark. It's a very heavy nose and you expect the worst. On the palate, the magic happens. The rum has a sweetness full of indulgence with your basket of juicy exotic fruits. The animal side is still present but brings a welcome complexity. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and the juice drinks very easily. The finish is endless, with this fruitiness that stays long on the tongue. An excellent Hampden very well balanced, despite a nose that is not very attractive at first glance.
