Most tasters land in the same spot: a bubblegum-and-tropical-fruit nose over light wood, with coconut, caramel and dried fruit on the palate from its 9 years and Marsala finish. A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, S.B.S. Masterclass. A bubble gum nose reminiscent of certain Savanna rums (here too, fermentation is particularly long), tropical fruit and discreet woodiness, all accompanied by a pleasant sweetness. On the palate, bubble gum and tropical fruit go hand in hand, supported by alcohol. The finish is on fruit, cedar wood and a reminder of Marsala (2 years in Marsala casks after 7 years in ex-bourbon).

I actually expected a different aroma. The Marsala finish did its job. It seems too soft to me, I almost don't feel that special spicy dust that was specific for EH high congener. In the taste it is there. Coconut, dried fruit, pepperiness, and a bit of praline. Here, on the contrary, the high congener is quite similar.

#5318 07.05.2025 Relaxing with a few samples while watching a TV series about psychopathic killers. Nose Round, light wood, light fruits, faint chocolate, light apple, light cherry, clove. Palate Balanced, light wood, faint smoke, fruits, light cherry, light cinnamon, light caramel, faint chocolate. Finish Medium long, round, light wood, fruits, light mango, spice, light chocolate. Empty glass Chocolate, vanilla, light apple, light caramel, light anise. German Rum Fest 2024 sample.

Fair evaluation. Tasted as part of the S.B.S. tasting. The bottlings from Antigua I have tasted so far have always reminded me strongly of FS and this one is no different. Unfortunately, despite the reduction, the alcohol is too present on both the nose and the palate.

Read full review ›I was enjoying it far too much neat. If you like Foursquare, particular there "lighter" Doorly's range then this might be a good addition. It's quite a good intro to Cask Strength rum as well. Whilst it's not lacking in complexity, it is quite an easy drinker for the ABV....
