8:On the nose, rubber, oak and sweet dark roasted wood notes with strong barrel impact like burnt sugar, caramel, walnuts, spicy with baking spices and dried fruits like prunes, flowery and herbal sugar cane, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the cane is vegetal, perhaps even with pepperoni, oregano, yellow fruits arise, some tannins and smokiness, leather. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is strong with roasted wood notes like nuts, chocolate, leather and caramel, spicy with baking spices, fruity with dried apricots, raisins, yellow fruits and hints of coconut, as bourbon barrel impact is obvious, the cane is vegetal with sesame, tomatoes and pepperoni, slightly musty, herbal, sweet with honey, some chemical notes and rubber join, when the rum is aired well, tropical and citrus fruits, tannins.... So this is very complex rum in front of us. 8:The finish is long, dry and tannic, sweet with maple, fruity with tropical and dried fruits, some grapefruit, as the wood is roasted, smoky and spicy, we notice some chemical and medicinal tones. Edit:23.1.26, downgrade for 0,2, oxidation does not help

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, S.B.S. Masterclass. Dry herbs on the nose, yellow fruit compote and a light pepperiness. On the palate, dry herbs, young wood and the usual caramel and vanilla. The finish is moderately long, though soon all that remains is the fresh wood. A rum marked by new wood (2 years after 6 years of ex-bourbon).

#5264 19.04.2025 Enjoying some samples while watching the TV series Grimm. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, light caramel, light mint, light citrus, nutts, faint leather. Palate Oily, fresh, naturally sweet, light caramel, medium spicy, medium dry, light citrus, faint dried fruit. Finish Medium to long, light oily, medium spicy, nutts, light caramel, light leather. Empty glass Leather, light chocolate, caramel, vanilla, dried fruit.

So another expansion of my horizon. I had no experience with Ecuador before. As far as I remember, the price for the bottle is quite fair. But personally, it didn't convince me enough to get one.

After a long car ride, three small rums are allowed :) I like this S.B.S Ecuador quite a bit. Vanilla, baking spices and burnt sugar. On the palate lots of vanilla and caramel, but also wood and spice.

My first Ecuador rum. In the spectrum of the Spanish style, the rum is rather on the distillate side than on the cask-driven side. Not the super dark cask aromas, no intrusive finish, but a light dry rum. The two most interesting notes are a smokiness reminiscent of cigarettes. Framed by lacquer and tannins. This smoke carries from the nose into the finish. The second interesting note is a bitter citrus note (lemon peel and grapefruit), which I could not find in the nose yet. In the nose there is a hint of sweet, not too bitter pome fruit. Not a groundbreaking rum, but a nice Spaniard - reminds me of the Don Q 2009 Single Barrel. In the Old Cuban it makes a great figure, here the vanilla shines almost like in a spiced rum. Very nice!

Has virtually no DNA of its own. Herbs and lots of virgin oak, lots of ex-bourbon barrel and alcohol not so well integrated. Another example for me that Ecuador unfortunately has hardly any high-quality rum to show...

The strong dominance of alcohol in smell and taste defines the profile here. No distinctive character. I know much better bottlings from SBS; a sample would have sufficed – now the whole bottle is here 🙄 Retasting after a year of opening with long breathing time: Lots of wood and caramel, as well as some fruit on the nose. On the palate, both wood and tropical fruits are the prominent aromas; very well balanced. Overall +4 points.

Fair evaluation. Tasted as part of the S.B.S. tasting. Interesting rum from Ecuador. A slight menthol note stands out for me on the nose. Then fruity, slightly sweet, spices, caramel and wood on the palate.

Very nice fruity aroma tinged with coffee, chocolate and pralines. I would even say it has a wine finish. Definitely something interesting and technical on the palate, but also quite astringent. Nice fruity finish with herbs and caramel. Spicy and warming. For me an interesting, unconventional rum.
