After a retest comparing with other VSOP’s I raise my rating to 7,8. A remarkable VSOP that’s very balanced and elegant. The only one of those I’ve tasted that can compete is the 8yo from Dillon. Significant scents and flavors are prunes, grass, sugarcane, vanilla, licorice and tobacco.

From the white to vieux plantation to this. More flowers in this one. More wood. Again nicely balanced. Yellow fruits. Peach. Apple. Tropical. Taste: still tropical but also a lot dryer than the previous one. Hay. Grass. Some cacao. Very different juice. Gets fruitier over time. The dryness needs time to get used to.

A VSOP quite similar to its peers. It's typical. Woody, vanilla. The cane is still there. Some citrus. The finish of this Depaz seems more leathery and earthy than usual. No risk with this rum. It's good and effective. Edit: feeling confirmed on a second tasting. Very pleasant finish.

A good rum, but then most Martinique rums are. A slightly vanilla and spicy nose, also vanilla and spices on the palate as well as chocolate (dark). Alcohol wonderfully integrated.

14.10.2018 Nice little get together with new rum friends. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: wood, light roasted, citrus, dried fruit, spice. Palate: fresh, round, light, wood, citrus, cinnamon, light licorice sugarcane, dried fruit. Finish: medium long, light wood, chocolate, spice, medium dry.

Similar to Depaz XO, but the orange and pear / apple is more pronounced in the smell. Also, a lot of spice on the nose. In the mouth dry hot and spicy, with some fruit emerging at the same time. The finish is dominated by bitter chocolate, spice and sweet fruit. Among all VSOP, this one stands out and the price is quite good.

Discovered at Limoges Spirits Festival 2025. 👃 & 😋 Typical Martinican woody, spicy, and vanilla nose but with that little something extra that makes the difference in the VSOP range. The fruits are varied without being able to pinpoint any particular one. Tropical fruits, dried fruits, citrus. Quite a bit of spice on pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon. Slightly candied sugarcane creates a thread. ⛳ Woody, spicy, and chocolaty, sugarcane, cocoa bitterness, some dried fruits mixed with roasted coffee, toasted oak, and leather. 💡 Personally, this Depaz is a reference Martinican VSOP alongside J.M (the best for me) and Saint James.

Un petit VSOP très agréable. Un nez qui saisit par son côté fruité, avec de la pomme bien mûre, un soupçon de poire et d'abricot sec. Il y a aussi un côté très floral dans ce nez. Après un peu d'attente, des épices comme la muscade, la vanille, et du gingembre font leur apparition. Avec le poivre typique de la Martinique. L'alcool est très bien intégré et on sent à peine ses 45°. On lui donnerait 5° de moins. La bouche est là encore sur les mêmes fruits que le nez, dans une totale cohérence. Mais le boisé raffiné est plus présent dès la seconde gorgée. Une douce vanille nappe le palais. Il y a des accents herbacés qui apparaissent. La finale est moyennement longue, sur le chêne et le caramel.

A VSOP with a surprising age count despite its appellation (7 years). This additional ageing confers to the nose a good aromatic palette sometimes on tropical fruits and citrus fruits, sometimes on woody, spicy and sugar cane. The mouth is carried by spices, some fruits followed by a note of tobacco. The finish has a medium length and draws on cocoa and wood, joined by pepper and an earthy touch at the end. A very solid and round rum for its age.

Personally I find a really great nose and a good start into the world of Agricole!! Very classic Agricole. Caramel tones and dried fruits dominate the taste. The tropical fruits clearly recognizable on the nose.

A nice mild Agricole. I think it's ideal as a transition to get familiar with Agricoles. It's very mild and harmonious. Has a great price-performance ratio. Had it yesterday in a blind tasting and people were thrilled even though most prefer beginner rums.

On the nose: Woody notes and spices. Dried fruits like plums. Sugarcane and floral notes. Taste: The profile is now leaning more towards spicy, woody and peppery notes. Tobacco notes are there too. Citrus notes. Dark chocolate notes come in the end. Finish: Woody, peppery and sugarcane notes at first. Then you get these nice,leather, coffee and dark chocolate notes in the end. Very good Martinique VSOP, i liked the finish with nice dark chocolate notes in the end.

This 7-year-old Depaz offers a lovely balance of fruitiness, depth, and youthful vibrance. The nose brings young wood, sweet stone fruits, vanilla, caramel, and a hint of sweet spice. The palate is light and smooth, with notes of apricot, nectarine, and subtle wood undertones. The finish reveals gingerbread spices, anise, and a floral-vegetal line typical for agricole rums. A very nice rum that balances youthful energy with elegant refinement.

A beautiful nose: fruity (yellow fruit compote, peach, white-fleshed fruits, some discreet yellow fruits, a slight prune), roasted dried fruits, blond tobacco, milk chocolate, spices (nutmeg, clove, vanilla), fine and elegant wood mixed with vesou (cane juice). Mouth: lively, dry and pleasant, fruity (sweet orange, lemony, white-fleshed fruits, roasted dried fruits), the wood is elegant and fine, very round, a bit caramel. Slightly toasted oak, blond tobacco, vesou (cane juice). Finish: long, fruity (nuts, some stewed yellow fruits) which is always finely woody and elegant. A delight! I don't see a better VSOP than this one in terms of value for money, especially since it is aged 7 years compared to the usual 4 years VSOP.

Even more intense barrel aromas than the Vieux. Unfortunately, this leaves even less of the fresh citrus fruitiness of the distillate. Long woody spicy aftertaste which becomes somewhat weaker but more complex and pleasant over time. I prefer fresher bottlings.

Good cork sound! Woody and mildly spicy with notes of mocha, vanilla, nutmeg and nougat. A bit sweeter and lighter on the nose than in taste. Short, woody and dark finish. Very enjoyable, would absolutely drink again.

Very nice and expressive nose. Apricot and yellow fruits, candied orange, cocoa on the finish, even a little fresh almost mentholated touch with a nice sweetness. I like the attack less with a bitterness that I find in other Martinique rums.

An easy sipping agricole that offers a lot of flavour for the price you pay. The rum smells and tastes very fruity but you can also pick up the barrel along the way. There is also a slight lavender and bitter note, but all remains very well in harmony.

On the nose, you find a beautiful caramelized pineapple. It's very pleasant. On the palate, there's a rather classic but well-made structure, with a nice length: vanilla, exotic fruits, woody... The alcohol is very well integrated. I really like it at this price!

This rum is hard to rate. The smell is still grassy and freshy, but the oak barrel softness is obvious. The rum is smooth, soft with roundness, which I couldn´t find in the Depaz XO rum. Nevertheless, the finish is not so nice, like in the Depaz XO. So all in all, why not - go for it!

Very pleasant Agricole, scent of milk chocolate with spices, very balanced taste, well integrated alcohol, wood, lightly spicy and a sharp finish, really a very nice surprise. I give 7.8/10 only because I think it would suit more alcohol percentage, easily 55-60%.

One of the best quality/price ratios in Martinican VSOP. It holds its own against many XO from other distilleries. Regarding the aromas, refer to my tasting note of Depaz XO as the two are close.

A rum you either love or don't like at all. The grassy and floral notes as well as the vanilla are found in the nose and mouth. On the palate, wood also comes in, as well as hay. Wonderfully dry with nicely integrated alcohol.

This is one of the best basic line agricoles. I may be a litttle biased as this one started my fascination with them. But I think this one could start it for anybody. It is really accessible as it it nicely balanced between fruits, spices and wood. And I am always especially fond of apple/pear notes. And good price too.

Geruch: leicht rauchig, blumig, Orange Geschmack: am Gaumen rund und weich, Aromen von Orangen, tropischen Früchten, Mango, Aprikose, blumig und leicht grasig. Eiche und Fassaromen mit erdigen Noten. Leichte Süsse. Ein sehr runder, fruchtiger und blumige Rhum agricole. Mittlere Länge im Abgang.

A hidden treasure in my opinion. A rum above so many others in this price range. Bought at the distillery, I admit this VSOP is my most frequent choice among my Martinicans. The JM house really deserves attention.
