Overripe pineapple, glue and dried fruit meet a big wave of sherry here — a young DOK Hampden finished in oloroso/PX casks at cask strength. Several tasters felt the sherry buries the wild ester DNA, and at nine months the body thins out on the finish. Fun in a Mai Tai; less convincing sipped neat.

Friday was opening party on a boat with Dirk and Saturday and Sunday meeting up with new and old friends Nose Medium intense, fresh, light wood, ester, fruits, light glue, light sherry, dried fruit. Palate Medium intense, round, light wood, ester, light glue, faint polish, light pineapple, faint caramel, faint sherry. Finish Medium to long, light wood, ester, fruits, faint citrus, light banana, faint caramel.

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, CoR masterclass. A nose of esters, dried herbs, licorice and stewed fruit. The attack on the palate is lively, but the aromas are rather dark, with stewed fruit, prunes and overripe pineapple. The finish is too short. As with the CoR 62.9%, this rum doesn't really suit me, even though it has its qualities. I find it more balanced but also less interesting.

I actually quite like DOKs, but this one didn't really grab me. The finish this time is not as strong as I thought, so the base is more recognizable than in their three DOK set with the extremely awful finishes. Yes it's ok, but unfortunately nothing more and it wasn't hard for me not to buy the bottle. I think CoR is on the upswing at the moment.

Basically a solid Hampden DOK, but for me personally way too much sherry influence. The whole awesome aroma is completely dominated by the sherry here. You can drink it but I prefer it without finish.

8,1:On the nose, intense, medicinal with esters and glue, solvents, strong sherry barrel impact, with dried fruits like raisins, red fruits, leather, joined by tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, herbaceous molasses, dark with licorice, spicy wood, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, notes are caramelized.The molasses is vegetal with tomatoes, red bell peppers, thick, fermented tones with dairy join. 8:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters and glue, later polish, sherry barrel impact is obvious, strong, fruits are tropical, green, dried and red, citrus, fermented, as vinegar is present, molasses is grassy with hay and oak is burnt, smoky with confectionery, caramel, leather, spicy with allspice, meaty with bacon. 7,6:The finish is medium long, medicinal and chemical, dry and tannic, sherry impact is strong, fruits are dried, tropical, citrus, molasses is herbaceous and oak toasted, smoky with caramel, spicy with allspice.

GRF 2014 CoR tasting: very rounded rum, the wild nature of the DOK tamed by the cask choice. Better than the PX DOK, but loses a bit of its DNA due to the cask choice. Overall rather disappointing tasting :(

Tried at the 13th GRF. For me, way too strong sherry influence. Here the rum was pushed too hard into the background. Would actually be interested to know how much sherry remained in the cask. Hope the trend of drowning young high ester rums in sherry ends soon.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Not a good representative of the DOKs, although I actually like the brand. Too unbalanced, a bit sour, not fruity enough. Alcohol could be better integrated.

Nice DOK from TCOR - clearly pressence from the oloroso casks. Nice long taste - while the nose is pleasent and full of over ripe citrusfruit, toothpaste, and sherry notes. A mouth full to be revisited Nice Juice! Cheers

15-03-2025 Not the first time tasting this limited Hampden from BRF 2024 A very nice nose with strong sherry notes. A bit messy when first tasting it. Perhaps because of the three different barrels combined with only 9 months of age. Aftertaste is also with wood and sherry notes. DOK makes it a bit wild. Filles a lot when it’s so young.

Strong sherry influence and for me personally very unbalanced. Doesn't fit well together for me. Maybe it would have gotten better with some years in the barrel. I also don't like the alcohol integration. I have to organize a sample again and taste it again.
