Pineapple, marzipan and a whiff of nail-polish glue open this OWH — the low-ester Hampden mark, so don't expect a funk bomb. Tasters find lots of tropical fruit (pineapple, banana, coconut) plus roasted almonds and young oak. At 59.5% the alcohol reads well-integrated; a few call it a "daily sipper" with edges. The main gripe is a short finish.

Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with the evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Delicious and easy-drinking new MJH3 or OWH Low Ester Hampden from Bellamy's. Alcohol well integrated, nice fruit notes (pineapple, papaya & honeydew melon), plus roasted almonds and coconut macaroon pastry, as well as lime peel and juice, giving a pleasant acidity in the finish. The finish is relatively short but it is also more of a relaxed Low Ester Hampden! Great value for money in my opinion and for me so far one of the best OWHs on the market.

For an OWH quite okay. That it is not an ester bomb was of course clear beforehand. The positive is that the alcohol is really more than very well integrated. But now comes the but: personally I find it too thin despite the ABV. I would prefer the Hampden 8yr here, which in my opinion can do more for the money and is half the price.

Solid Jamaican with more fruit and aromas than you’d expect from an OWH. I’ve tried clearly worse for more money. Fruity nose with lots of tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, coconut), raisin, toffee, wood... on the palate also some lime and papaya. Palate a bit edgier than the nose but still within limits and with a slightly creamy texture.

#6718 Relaxing with a few samples after my bike traininf. Listening to some nice tracks by Bonka, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Maddix and Ben Nicky on Spotify. Pretty good OWH especially when looking at the price tag. Well balanced ester rum with fruits, wood, caramel and a hint of smoke and coconut.

This OWH shows a balanced nose. Slightly reserved but a good ratio between fruit and spice. You can definitely feel esters but comparatively little. On the palate rather salty-roasty, slight sweetness is there. But overall not quite convincing, I'd rather go for the 8-year classic.

Hanse Spirit Hamburg February 2026. Number 2 was then a low ester Hampden. But still okay, also here tropical fruits (pineapple and banana) on the nose, as well as glue. On the palate also tropical fruits, as well as young wood.

Raisin and sweet banana dipped in nail polish and stuck together greet the nose on a marzipan base. Especially the marzipan note continues in the taste and remains very present against tropical fruits. In the finish, marzipan and banana balance each other again. Regarding esters, it fluctuates a bit between "still esters" and tasty and "already alcoholic" and thus not quite so pleasant anymore.

A thoroughly pleasant OWH with a lively-fruity nose, but it is noticeable that the bourbon cask had quite fresh wood, which is confirmed in the quite complex taste. Delicious, but with a somewhat more lasting finish, even more would have been possible.

At the nose initially very fruity, sweet, ester, nail polish, the moisture is tropical, pineapple, banana and a hint of coconut. On the palate initially very dry compared to the nose. Wood, a slight bitterness that runs through. Still the rum retains its tropical fruits on the palate.

Typical Hampden profile, although with not quite as intense esters and thus fruit on the nose. On the palate then clearly more fruit. Not quite as intense and complex, but a good daily sipper with edges and corners. The finish is unfortunately not so long. The alcohol is well integrated.

Nice intense rum from Bellamy's. On the nose intense, fruity, estery, tropical and dry fruits, a bit sweet and woody. On the palate strong, intense, peppery, young wood and funky, fruity. Esters and solvent. The rum has real power with good alcohol connection. On the finish a bit sharp on the tongue but that makes the rum even more interesting, woody a bit coconut, long and warm.

An exciting OWH Hampden without the typical fermented fruits that characterize the more ester-rich Marque. Balanced, relaxed and with a good price-enjoyment ratio. Only the somewhat short finish prevents a higher score.
