Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. The first 2006 Beenleigh so far apart from Velier. And it’s damn similar to that, only with more citrus and less anise. Gigantic nose of lots of lemongrass and citrus fruits (kumquat, lime peel, orange peel) plus fresh eucalyptus, some incense and candied ginger with honey. Reminds a bit of a citrus sauna infusion in a positive way! 😅 Taste-wise very thick, oily and incredibly fresh with lemongrass and eucalyptus. Then red grape. Slightly smoky and floral. White tea with jasmine. Very complex and heavy. The alcohol is surprisingly well integrated (if you let it breathe long enough in the glass)! Also in the finish the fresh lemongrass comes fully through again. For me one of my new top Beenleigh references and probably on par with the RA Beenleigh 2007!

Kind of a weird rum for me. This Australian profile has always had its peculiarities, but this one is a bit more unique. I find it too alcoholic and a little too unbalanced. Unfortunately not one that really convinces me. The rest of the sample mixed with cola, but unfortunately no highlight there either

Beenleigh is not quite my profile ... so this one doesn't quite meet my taste either. But if you like the eucalyptus, lemon (-grass), ginger, honey, nut profile with some fruit, you will get your money's worth. The oily texture should perhaps be emphasized (probably also due to the long Australian storage and the crisp fullproof). Alcohol could be better integrated, but the finish is long-lasting. Clearly benefits from some ageing time

#5123 01.03.2025 tasting at Whiskymessen.dk 2025. Nose Light wood, faint roasted, light mint, spice, light ginger, light citrus, faint caramel. Palate Light wood, medium dry, faint smoke, light citrus, spice, faint anise, light mint, faint marzipan, faint nutts. Finish Very long, wood, light roasted, fruits, light citrus, ginger, spicy, medium dry, faint marzipan. Needs to rest for a while to really open up properly.

Another great Australian after RC, RdL, and RA. This one is also very good and, similar to RA's, leans more toward the light fruity aroma side with lots of citrus and especially apricot and peach. Very tasty! Comes onto the radar.

Lemongrass and memories of a sauna infusion. Cheese feet in your nose? 🤓 Alcohol quite present in the nose and on the palate - but it's also 67.6%. Eternal finish. A little too much power for my taste.

While I have admittedly my problems with the Beenleigh profile, first impression on the nose is quite nice on this one. There is the distinct Beeleigh note - for my this is Obstler-ish - but nicely integrated into wood and some herbal notes. The long time in the cask created a nicely matured nose overall. On the palate I find - as for most Beenleighs I tasted - the alcohol to be too present. This may get better over time, but right form the fresh sample it’s just not very pleasant. Profile again is nicely formed by the long maturation. As with other Beenleighs, also this one improves significantly with some oxidation in the open bottle. The rum is less sharp and reife fruits are much more prominent than from the freshly opened bottle. Would also give it c. +0.5 uplift versus the „fresh rating“. In both I see the Bellamy’s ahead of the 2006 Velier bottling. Less sharp, with more depth and complexity.

This is real dynamite. Citrus fruits on the nose and palate. The 67.6% also gives it a lot of oomph on the palate and a very long, beautiful finish. It lingers long after the sip. Really pleasant.

And the Beenleigh journey continues. This one is also very strong, the alcohol is definitely noticeable, otherwise it is quite spicy and woody, eucalyptus can definitely be tasted well here.

Very interesting nose here. A bit wild and maybe too much alcohol but exciting. On the palate initially also clearly too alcoholic. Citrus fruits and ginger spiciness set the tone on the palate if the poorly integrated alcohol allows it. I expected a bit more here and a reduction would probably have been sensible.

Of the 2007 Beenleighs I've tried so far, I was usually very impressed. This is now the first 2006 in my glass and the profile I appreciate consisting of lots of quince and pear along with zesty citrus fruits, honey and a hint of elderflower is also present here in abundance. Additionally, a little eucalyptus and a hint of incense show up, which fits well. However, the smell also repeatedly has a cheesy note that reminds me, combined with a trace of leather, of moccasins worn barefoot for a long time, which I don't like so much.

Very interesting nose here. A bit wild and maybe too much alcohol but exciting. On the palate also initially clearly too alcoholic. Citrus fruits and ginger spiciness flood the mouth and fill it completely. Somehow already an interesting drop with a lot of power.

So on the nose fruity, woody, slight sweetness, not super spectacular. On the palate, however, more like dark dried fruits, wood. In the finish, I still have a very subtle eucalyptus note. I must say, it is quite drinkable and nothing ordinary.

This one really packs a punch. Basically, I find Australians very sufficient and tasty. Nose: unusual, the rum initially has a total cheese note that really lingers and initially masks the finer aromas. But these do come through over time. Pear and quince with caramel or burnt sugar, spicy-woody with some citrus fruit. And then that cheese keeps coming back. The alcohol is actually clear. I'm a bit undecided, quirky but okay. 8.0 Palate: okay, the alcohol makes it seem strong and intense at first, behind that it's very citrusy and sweet. Initially it has a salty-sour-bitter start, lime peel and the typical pear follow. Then it becomes a bit creamier, bacon-like and nuttier, maybe pecan. The finish brings back the pear again. Luckily no cheese here anymore. In my view, there are smoother Australians, 7.8

01-03-2025 - 8.6 One of the better Beenleigh I have tasted. Decent age and high ABV of 67,5% 20-12-2025 - Rate 8.2 Perhaps it’s judge a bit harder this time. Frist rum of the evening. Nose of citrus, wood and spirits. Palate citrus, tropical fruits and wood. Long finish dominated by wood and citrus

Burnt eucalyptus with the bitterness of orange peel definitely invites you to drink. I don’t have it on the nose yet, but the tongue then enjoys fresh beekeeper honey. In the rather dry finish, which I like, some ginger tea comes in, replacing the eucalyptus. Overall just shy of very good, because the alcohol could be better integrated (complaining at a very high level).

Controversial Australian, which I find totally interesting. Nice eucalyptus note with a bit of citrus notes. In taste a bit of ginger honey. In the finish again good spice with dark chocolate. Only small criticism is the alcohol. For my taste it is not perfectly integrated.

On the nose a nice fruit bomb combined with honey, a subtle smoky sharpness is noticeable, so far so good. On the palate it builds spice, wood, subtly fresh, floral, menthol notes. Finish then, category long. Astringent, dry, it plays its nearly 68% vol. nicely. Rarely do I review a Beenleigh... I need to let the profile settle. Looking forward to my next one...👍

Lots of wood, alcohol and stinky socks on the nose. Taste-wise again wood and alcohol... after 30 minutes the alcohol was no longer quite so "sharp". Personally too monotonous and boring for me.

Read full review ›Complex and intense with lots of fruit, herbs and balsamic aromas. Definitely a Beenleigh, but somehow different. The high alcohol level unfortunately spoils the enjoyment a bit for me because it doesn't seem fully integrated.
