Tasting of Rhum J.M vintage 2014, cask strength. This rum aged less than 10 years (9 months and 7 months) in tropical climate for a cask strength bottling at 44.2°. Nose: rather intense, it's the exotic fruit compote that hits the nostrils first. This fruitiness continues on a greedy prune juice, which leads to toasted bread from the toaster. This brings great indulgence that extends to freshly split vanilla notes. You also feel the spiciness of ginger, with a bit of honey that softens everything. The mouth is incredibly smooth, with perfectly integrated alcohol. The attack is on the bitterness of orange marmalade. That could bother. Vanilla and delicate wood soften this first impression on the palate. At the end of the mouth, toasted brioche bread coats the palate with great indulgence. The finish is very long, with this vanilla still very enveloping and these toasted notes that linger. Exotic fruits come back to say hello. I can't help but make a comparison between this rum and the Volcanic Terroir from the same distillery. They have great aromatic similarities, but in XXL format for this 2014 vintage. If the volcanic terroir fades quite quickly, this 2014 is more concentrated. It's just a pity it has this bitterness a bit too pronounced.

Tasted at the Rhum Fest Paris, partial notes. It smells a bit like soap or oat milk, it's weird, not a big fan or shea/cocoa butter.. Much better on the palate though. A good old agricole, without being too old.

Tasting at Rhum Fest Paris 2025. 👃 Lovely agricole, beautiful candied cane, honeyed and sweet, plum tree fruits with the field before the harvest nearby. Woody with mild spices, light vanilla, a bit of varnish. 😋 Woody and honeyed sweetness. Pastry combination of dried fruits, fruit tart and caramelized sugar cane accompanied by baking spices. Slight bitterness of damp wood. ⛳ Medium length, the barrel a bit more present, nicely vanilla and spicy. Sweet note of dried fruits more than tropical ones.
