Distilia Uitvlugt The Last Cask Artist (Yu Chuan) 1990
Well-liked, but it wears its cask hard. This 32-year-old Uitvlugt noses like a classic old Port Mourant — dried prune, fig, leather, tobacco — then turns surprisingly smoky and peaty on the palate, close enough that several tasters reach for the word whisky. Dry, deep and a touch bitter into the finish. Give it air in the glass; it rounds out with time.

Tasting Distilia Artist (Yu Chuan).

Relatively complex on the nose, with citrus and woody notes. On the palate, very powerful smoky notes, tobacco, leather, wood. The delicate structure of the Uitvlugt profile from continental ageing is unfortunately lost in this smoky tonality, which almost certainly stems from the cask; the result remains appealing, but you definitely have to go for the smoky style. The balance is right, but in my rating a few points are lost due to my subjective preferences, which are not in the smoky spectrum. Still very good.

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is very pleasant with charred wood notes and dried fruits, as there are raisins, figs, apricots, dark berries, blackberry and smoky wood with nuts, burnt sugar, leather. Molasses brings in some tobacco. On aeration, vanilla, prunes, citrus and bacon are evident, as some flowery notes with an elderflower.Nicely balanced... 8,5:On the palate, the attack is spicy and whisky like with dark, charred, smoky wood notes, a bit resinous, so a bit bitter. The fruits are dried with raisins, prunes, apricots and dates, as the molasses brings in black tea, dark licorice, tobacco and is a bit herbaceous. After resting, balance is better, as we move towards more burnt bacon, meat, salty caramel, mocha and a whiff of mint. 8,5:The finish is long with dry, spicy, smoky charred wood, quite dark and earthy and a bit bitter, as dried fruits nicely balance our tasting..

Unfortunately not my cup of tea. Very pronounced smoky note and I can't do much with that. Herbal notes. Plus lots of bitter notes. Especially in the finish. After more than 30 years, there is of course a lot of wood, but here too I found the rum was overpowering, especially in the finish, with unattractive old barrel notes. Well, friends of (smoky) whisky may have more fun with this one

Old PM with a nice nose of lots of dried fruit, plum, wood and tobacco. On the palate - as already described in another review - a somewhat disturbing, smoky note. I don't know whether it reminds me of whisky because I read it or because it really tastes like it. But it is indeed a bit annoying if you don't like whisky. In any case, a little standing time is very good for it. Nevertheless, all in all still very tasty for me.

Beautiful plums, marzipan, vanilla and wood on the nose. On the palate, the typical old PM profile for a brief moment, but unfortunately a somewhat smoky whisky note is immediately added, which I simply don't like. Too bad, the beginning was really good! After tasting it several times, the smoky note disappears somewhat. Or is the rum simply past its peak and it's an extremely woody note?

The third Uitvlugt for today... and unfortunately a bit disappointing... as already reported several times, it contains a heavy smoky slightly tobacco-like note, which I don't like. Otherwise, there are also pleasant dry fruit flavors of prune, spice and wood.

V závěru jasně dominuje rašelinová whisky a tabák.

Well, for the price that is called for a bottle here, it doesn't really convince me. I would rate it as a solid bottling, but nothing more. You could get better for the money. The smokiness ruins a lot here.
