This rum's lack of clarity about its origins and age is to be deplored. The appellation Single Cask is antinomic for a blend. This is its only criticism. The nose is very fruity, but without the typical Jamaican ester markers. It's more like a TDL, with an explosion of exotic fruits (ripe bananas) that slowly turns to red fruits (raspberries, redcurrants). A light woodiness follows, on a background of spices (vanilla, cinnamon). An extremely fruity, pleasant nose. The palate retains this fruitiness while remaining dry, but is overwhelmed by the more present spices (cinnamon, clove, chili) and notably a refreshing menthol. The alcohol is superbly integrated - you can't really feel the 63°. The finish is long, with a distinguished oaky edge. The finish in Sauternes barrels lends a winegrowing touch to this finish. A wonderful discovery that I brought back from Whiskys and More in Geneva.

Sehr kräftiger Geselle. Die beiden Fässer haben ihm gut getan. Wobei der Bourbon mehr durchkommt als der Sauterness. Ich hätte mir mehr Ester gewünscht, aber ich steh halt drauf. Die Nase ist toll. Karamell, Holz, der Alkohol, der ja reichlich vorhanden ist, sticht nicht. Später kommt die Süße vom Sauterness aber ohne die Muffigkeit, die ich bei vielen Whiskies mit Weinfasslagerung kenne. Mehr Zeit im Glas tut ihm gut. auf der Zunge wird’s vielschichtiger. süße, zartbitter von Bourbonfass (vermutlich), sehr schön malzig und rund, ab und zu angenehme Säure im Abgang. Schon eine bemerkenswerte Perle aus der Karibik.
