Not the glue-and-banana funk you might expect from Jamaica — this is the dessert side of New Yarmouth. Toasted coconut, dark chocolate, dried apricot and burnt caramel, with fine oak tannins and a growing bitterness from 28 years in the barrel. At 66.7% the alcohol sits remarkably well integrated; the body is oily and warm. A few members note the finish could be longer, but almost nobody walks away unhappy.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is fruity and woody with an orange peel, dried fruits, as the wood is charred with burnt sugar, caramel, nuts, a bit spicy.There is also some coconut, toasted, buttery molasses. On aeration, very pleasant pastry with dried apricots, citrus arise, as the molasses dark with menthol and licorice. 9:On the palate, the attack is tasty with bourbon ageing notes like toasted coconut, charred, spicy wood with caramel, nuts, burnt sugar and a pinch of smoke, vanilla and pepper.The fruits are dried with dates, apricots and raisins.The brings us some tobacco.Our tasting buds swim in a delicious and round rum, now even with dark chocolate. 8,8:The finish is long with charred wood, smoky/earthy, dry and spicy, a bit tannic and fruity with coconut, dried fruits..

It's a very good rum, but I don't see it in the 90 range. Lots of vanilla and chocolate on the nose, as well as some coconut. On the palate, caramel and chocolate predominate, some coconut is recognizable and it is also slightly nutty.

#6427 03.03.2026 Enjoying a few samples afte a long work day in Copenhagen. Watching a Danish TV programme about crazy drivers on the roads. This is a very good rum and with great balance between the elements. Fruits anf floral notes go well with the wood and bolish notes. Dry and very long finish.

1. Tasty, the most classic, average, which for a 94NY gives 87 points. A bit sharp. 2. Very gentle start, somewhat woody, creamy and with lots of coconut. Finish rather short. Very smooth compared to the others. 82 3. Very cool start, immediately astringent, very funky in comparison. I like it a lot! 90 4. Could be a sherry finish. So many dark berries, sweet and full-bodied! Awesome! 89 5. A mix of everything mentioned so far. Typical NY aromas, somewhat astringent, a bit funky, a bit smooth but also somewhat sharp at the end. 87 6. Typical NY, which has a bit more citrus fruits in the basket at the end than the others. Chocolatey and nutty as soon as you pour it. Then other typical markers such as dried fruit, vanilla, burnt sugar and cookies are added quite quickly. Coconut is also present, but not in the leading role here. A beautifully elegant bitterness with fine tannins on the palate. Very good.

the VL against the Swell Flashback. The Swell is clearly smokier on the nose and especially on the palate (which I didn't notice at all during the first tasting, or perhaps even more so with increasing oxidation). The LV, on the other hand, pushes more with caramel/chocolate (Werther's Echte). With longer standing time, I also notice something sourish in the LV in the direction of black currant-licorice. Spontaneously, I would prefer the LV to the Swell, or downgrade the Swell somewhat due to the rather pronounced smoky note.

Chocolatey and nutty and light woody notes flow out of the glass after pouring. Then other typical markers such as dried fruit, vanilla, burnt sugar and cookies are quickly added. There is also a hint of chocolate. A beautifully elegant bitterness with fine tannins on the palate.

I like the nose very much, as there are fruity aromas as well as lots of roasted aromas and spices. The palate also has everything you would expect from a 94 NY, but without being too woody. In direct comparison with the Fine Drams (68.5%), the Catawiki NY has more fruit.

A first-class 1994 New Yarmouth that delights from start to finish. Right from the start you can smell and taste nutty and chocolaty aromas. The typical aromas of dried fruit, caramel and wood are also present, as well as some coconut and bitterness on the palate.

Un New Yarmouth classique de prime abord qui cache bien des surprises. Le nez est assez doux, sucré et délicat, d’abord beurré voir crémeux, avec pas mal de notes pâtissières (viennoiserie, toffee, sucre brulé). Le profil gagne beaucoup avec l’aération : le fruité, subtil au début, gagne en fruits à coque (noix, coco) et secs (abricot, raisin) alors que la gourmandise est plus ample et prononcée sur le chocolat, les épices et le caramel. Apparaissent également des notes plus fraîches sur le menthol. Un profil vraiment appétissant et équilibré. Le profil est d’une rondeur exceptionnelle en bouche, ultra équilibré, chaud, huileux et réconfortant, avec un alcool extrêmement bien intégré, c’est époustouflant. On a un très beau boisé, accompagnés par de légers tanins, puis davantage de gourmandise avec la vanille, le chocolat noir, la noix de coco. Les épices qui agrémentent le palais avec quelques notes sombres, notamment sur la noisette grillée et les fruits secs (abricot). Les fruits sont également de la partie avec l’exotisme des agrumes. Un rhum sensationnel et d’une maîtrise absolue. Que la finale est belle, à la fois fruitée, grillée et toastée, douce sur le caramel et le sucre brulé, amère et tannique mais avec une touche de fraîcheur. Elle s’éternise sur les fruits exotiques, les fruits secs, les épices et les effluves chocolatées et noisetées. Un superbe New Yarmouth qui maîtrise son sujet, une référence en la matière, impeccable.

KD clearly woodier than my reference from RA. Clearly more bitter. Overall somewhat less balanced. Swell surprisingly reveals new facets. Clearly less wood than the KD. Instead milk chocolate, hazelnut/nougat and unfortunately also smoky/peaty. The two bottlings from Distilia come closest to my reference from Rum Artesanal. 1994 New Yarmouth simply has outstanding quality.

Full of taste filling every drop of the liquid. Perfect NY profile, I just preffer more cream and less sour in taste. .. Krasne sladky, smetanovy, jako karamela. Skvela volba pro rumare, kteri chteji prejit od sladkych sirupu na cisty destilat. New Yarmouth 1994 jen malokdy zklame. Toto je skvela volba, ke ktere se vzdy rad vratite.

Another great release of our favorite NY94. Once again, the dominant intense flavor of dry tropical fruit is followed by coconut. Compared to other releases, this sample seems drier and more bitter to me – the taste of orange peel. Beautiful Jamaica.

Wonderful 94 New Yarmouth. You have to let it rest a little in the glass, then it really comes into its own. Nutty, chocolaty, with lovely caramel and coconut notes, plus beautiful dried fruit with a subtle light bitterness, wonderful. I also find the ABV well integrated. The tannins from the wood have done a great job. The only thing that bothers me a little is the finish (whining on a high level;)). If it were a little longer and more balanced, it would be a 9, but unfortunately this costs it a few points, but it still gives off a nice potpourri of aroma and flavor, with a wonderfully warm and oily elegance.

1994 New Yarmouth Cross Tasting - Teil 1: Hat alles was man bei einem 1994 NY sucht: Kokosnuss, Trockenfrüchte, dunkle Schokolade, süßes Karamell. Dazu gerade das richtige Maß an Holz. Gefällt mir ebenfalls sehr gut.

Zeigt nebst dem typischen New Yarmouth 1994er Profil - geprägt von süssem Karamell, Vanille, Kokosnuss und zitrischer Fruchtfrische - bereits knackig-herbe Noten aus der langen Fasslagerung. Extrem spannend in der Balance von Kokosnuss und Vanille, an dieser Stelle finden wir auch ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal des Releases; parallel schlägt der Rum aber bereits leicht ins Bittere über, fraglos ohne die Balance zu verlieren, dennoch zeigt das Alter hier erkennbar seine Spuren. Das gefällt mir grundsätzlich, denn Reifung birgt auch beim Rum die Basis für Charakter. In der Gesamtschau folglich fraglos überzeugend, es bleibt abet dennoch zu konstatieren, dass es noch galantere Releases aus dem legendären 1994er New Yarmouth-Jahrgang gibt.

I was very impressed, it went far beyond expectations. In the glass, it shows a certain viscosity with a dark color that's beautiful just to look at. On the nose, it's very explosive with fruity and toasted impact; the more you let it breathe, the more pleasant it becomes to smell. On the palate, you feel the high ABV but I didn’t find it too invasive—in fact, honestly, I think it gives it a nice extra kick. The fruit and toastiness are very dominant on the palate too, but I didn’t find it cloying. The finish is very long and persistent, with the fruity trail taking the lead. Very enjoyable and lasting, I was really pleased. P.S.: purely my personal opinion.

Very good. What a length! A beautiful experience. Consistent, quality throughout the tasting. A very nice experience. Nose: A bit of ester, vanilla, marzipan, coconut. Palate: smooth attack, very soft then builds up on chocolate, a bit of bitter orange zest. Length: very very long, with cask notes and extends infinitely on coconut.

Coconut, buttery, creamy, cookies, pastries, chocolate... by far my favourite combination of flavours and here I get a handful of it. Great integration of alcohol for 66%. I think that NY94 is one of those rums that is a sure fire and just can't dissapoint.

Wspaniała, dojrzała Jamajka! Pełna głębi, wielopoziomowa, słodko-owocowa z pięknym, aromatycznym, tropikalnym zapachem i długim, przyjemnym finishem. Alkohol, pomimo ekstremalnego stężenia 66.7% jest fantastycznie zintegrowany, a rum w odbiorze jest pełny, oleisty, spójny i esencjonalny. W zapachu dominują suszone i kandyzowane owoce tropikalne w miodzie/melasie z trzciny cukrowej, z dodatkiem lakieru do drewna, dębiny, przypraw i mentolu. W smaku podobnie, aromaty powtarzają się co dodatkowo potęguje efekt spójności, dodając jednak warstwę kawową, orzechową, dzikiego miodu i melasy oraz przypraw i dębiny, jednak zachowując swój tropikalno-słodki charakter. Wspaniała edycja!
