21.02.2020 A small private event where we borrowed the basement bar area for a private tasting and also had a go at their food. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose Wood, roasted, leather, fruits, cherry, tar, light rubber. Palate Oily, balanced, complex, wood, roasted, tar, leather, dried fruit, medium dry, light rubber. Finishvery long, dry, wood, tannins, raisin, light caramel.

Un rhum d’exception, pas le palais habitué à boire du caroni mais dès l’ouverture, une odeur qui vous transporte et qui vous rappelle des longs dimanches d’hiver. Le nez goudronné, pétrole propre à la trinidad et un fort mélange entre le caramel et un poil de vanille. À la bouche le caramel se révèle de façon plus importante entouré d’un gras huileux industriel qu’on utilise pour faire fonctionner des machines des années 20. Un délice et un voyage !

Caroni 2000 US bottling almost freshly opened - a very nice find at Pusser‘s in Munich. Lacking the side-by-side versus the EU edition, from memory this is on par. As for the EU bottling, this is a very nice expression of the 2000 vintage with high intensity, dirt and some dried fruits. Works very well at the reduced ABV imo.

A rather dry and oily Caroni with vegetal notes, wood and a little fruit. I’m very happy to have tasted this one although it was a little different from the other Caronis that I have sampled so far.

I gave him an easy 40 minutes. He also needed that. Intense nose, spicy, toasty and fruity at the same time. Foremost sulfured and a fine menthol note. A sweetness of ripe papaya and honey and just behind that something dusty, smoky from old wood and tobacco. I likeIt's intense and delicious on the palate again. Sweet, salty and bitter at the same time. Menthol or mint I also have here and something metallic it seems. Shortly something singed plastic comes along. Something almond at the end.Menthol and some wood itself in the finish.A good Caroni.

It’s a light weight for a Caroni issued by Velier (110 proof) and to me that means it is lacking a bit from what I hoped. Real herbal and vegetal notes on the nose and palate followed soon after by more typical tar and rubber elements. It’s a dry and savoury mouth and lacks the intensity and oiliness that I was looking for. Medium length finish and opens up a bit with time but lacks the wow factor that I and many others want with a Caroni
