A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024 and a tasting of the Savanna high ester. Overripe fruits on the nose, red fruits with banana, vegetal notes, and a light woodiness. The palate is lively and complex with the same aromas as the nose plus a kind of bitter herbal candy (Ricola) and dry herbs. Burnt caramel and pastries in the finish brighten up the dry herbs and vegetal notes. I find it much better than the Unshared Cask for France 2024.

Bottle in CZ community advent calendar 2025 Rum from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-rich pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few drops of liquid for a long time.

Very great rum, harmonious and balanced. Excellent mix of fruit, caramel, chocolate, nuts and spices. In the mouth, many tart and dry barrel influences as well as dark berries. The roasted aromas are also pleasant.

More "grown-up" than the L'Absolu. More power (in a positive sense) and roastier/darker on the palate. Alcohol is very well integrated. Very balanced with a complex mix of fruit (strawberries, grapes) and barrel influence. The HERR component gives a great kick at the back.

Rarely have I experienced such an extreme contrast between nose and taste. The nose is very sweet, with notes of strawberry jelly babies, caramel, grape jelly and a hint of olive. The palate is much drier and woodier than expected. Oak wood and the cognac barrel, as well as the tannins and wine notes from the Muscat wine come through and complement the aroma of yellow stone fruit. Some violets and strawberry on the finish and very elegant. Personally, the influence of the Cognac is a little too strong for me. Nevertheless, a very successful blend! Overall more complex than its predecessor absolu but less easy sipping.

Retasting Masterclass Savanna High Ester. This one is different from the first two. You can immediately smell the cask influence, also very spicy and it has a cognac aroma. On the palate, also woody and spicy, with a bit of leather. A top rum.

Tasted as a sample. This blend is really well done. The main notes are woody and fruity, including strawberry. Then come tannin, raisin cognac, spices, esters, and burnt sugar. And to finish, touches of olive and incense. The finish is like violet candy.

Savanna High Ester Masterclass. Cool that we could try the new 2024 version of l'Absolu. Great matured blend with a great nose. On the palate, it's a little less powerful, but for me it's better than the 2023.

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get are esters, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, strawberry, smoky&spicy wood with caramel, cognac touch with dried figs, raisins, currants, gooseberry, as the molasses brings an olive. On aeration, there are strong grapes, allspice, some leather and the currants are dried. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is fruity and woody with peaches, overripe strawberry, dried fruits like currants, raisins, as the wood is roasted, dry with caramel, nougat, nuts, leather.The molasses is vegetal, waxy with dark licorice, a bit herbaceous.The tannins coming out are quite strong, bitter.Tropical overripe fruits are stronger after resting the rum with melon also. 8,4:The finish is long with dry&spicy, tannic roasted wood notes, a bit resinous, unpleasantly bitter, the molasses is vegetal, earthy with the olive, the fruits are dried and overripe...

Savanna Masterclass High Ester: This L'Absolou is very much on the elegant spicy side and a great introduction. I like the balance between the spice and the gentle fruitiness. The alcohol is well integrated and the finish is slightly tannic.

Good rum. The 2023 bottling suited me a bit better but still a good rum. Plum, dried fruits and the perfumed tobacco with some dextrose and green pepper. Sounds wild but fits well.

A savanna easy sipper with a certain kick thanks to the HERR component. The alcohol is well integrated and the balance is the greatest strength of this rum. Fruity, woody, sweet, chocolaty, smooth on the palate and yet somehow with astringent peaks. The finish is of medium length. The cask influence is very strong. I like it very much!

On the nose the HERR component is clearly noticeable, displaying menthol notes as well as overripe fruits. With some time to breath, the nose presents itself a more balanced yet still very fruity and powerful. Dark and quite dry on the palate without getting to extreme. Wood, leather, backing spices and some fruits. Very nice.

Second edition of the Absolu, this Savanna offers a balanced, round and very charming nose. While the typical woody and spicy notes of the style (vanilla and chili in particular) are present, the notes of grape, strawberry, blackcurrant and cognac bring a very nice fruity dimension to the nose. The nose is exotic, gourmand and intense as desired. On the palate, the rum leaves behind some of the sweetness and takes on a more marked astringency. There is also a much more roasted and smoky dimension that gives character back to the palate. The profile becomes more vinous, dry and tannic, but retains the fruitiness of the nose (with pineapple as a bonus) to keep a form of opulence. There is a very nice combination of flavors. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, very tannic and retains its aromatic richness. Overripe strawberry and spices (chili, vanilla, licorice) remain along with roasted notes and oak. A touch of olive appears to broaden the aromatic spectrum. A very nice Réunion selection, very pleasant and evolving. Compared to the 2023 edition, this Savanna is more direct, more solid and opulent on its aromas.

Very pleasant nose on fruits and notes of honey. The HERR is well present. On the palate, you first find this indulgence before the wood and tannins take over. The HERR reappears later. This is a very tasty rum from Savanna! Very fruity, full-bodied, fine berry notes (the HERR influences cannot be denied). Alcohol is very well integrated. Definitely better than its predecessor. I find the PLV very poor here.

A really nice „daily sipper“. Not overly complex but still really inviting and warm. I like it a lot but to be honest buying a bottle at the current rate…I think there are better options in this league.

And here is the new L Absolu. I almost missed that a new blend was about to be released. I still have to compare it with the 2023 to see which I like better. In this blend, the Herr components and especially the Cognac casks clearly come through. It becomes noticeably more bitter on the palate with aging.

A nice rum with potential, but the price is too high for what is proposed. The nose is promising, it brings a lot of flavors with strawberries, candied fruit, orange, as well as a hint of olive water. The palate starts as an explosion but fades quite fast, and the wood is not very well integrated, it brings a bit too much tanins and wood for this style.

Very impressive Savanna that clearly surpasses the L‘Absolu 2023. The very nice Savanna base profile with strawberries and pineapple remains clearly in the foreground despite barrel aging. Barrel influences then nicely round off the rum.

An exceptional rum blended with 14-year-old and 8-year-old HERR high ester. Despite the promise, it didn't take me as far as I expected. Still a good product, but too expensive for what I got out of it.

Savanna Masterclass Nice and round, somewhat woody and spicy. A rum of a different kind. Little fruit and lots of spice. Something a bit different. Alcohol is nicely integrated and otherwise not much to criticize.

RumX Savanna Masterclass 27.09.24: A nice aroma spreads in the room! The nose is dominated by blackcurrant for me. In the mouth it continues similarly, with a great balance and pleasant, restrained sweetness (reminds me of grapes). In the finish you notice the LORD who was previously hiding more in the background.

Ah... A very interesting Savanna blend! We find the big aroma profile that often kills our taste buds in a big woody cognac. The result is a very fruity rum with a licorice/chocolate/dried fruit finish. Special mention must go to the nose, where you can smell the eucalyptus at first, then the sandalwood. There's also a hint of a beeswax shoe-shine session... But you have to have experienced it

Savanna RCP Masterclass: a nose decidedly open on the herr (12%), but very attenuated by the trad muscatel barrel. It's very good, very indulgent on the fruits and remains soft. Strawberry, grapes, yellow fruits, spices and wood mingle. A very nice release, above the first Absolu 2023.

Whisky Live Paris 2024 (trade fair review, only overall rating and personal purchase recommendation): A fireworks display of aromas, almost too much. I like it better at first impression than the first L'Absolu. I'm still not sure if I need a bottle.

On the nose: Lovely overripe fruits like grapes and strawberry. Little bit of ester. Cognac notes. Woody notes. Hints of caramel notes. Taste:Woody and cognac notes upfront but I get more spices like allspice and roasted notes on the taste. Hints of grapes and strawberries. The alcohol is integrated very well. Finish: Finish is long and surprisingly rich. Woody, red fruits, roasted, nutty and hints of dark chocolate in there. Ok, taste was little bit of a let down for me after the nose, but the finish did save a lot for me. The more is sip this, the more im starting to like it. This is a real step up from L'Absolu 2023.

Tasting a 3cl sample. 👃 Beautiful combination of Cognac barrel (raisins, spices) and overripe red fruits (famous strawberry note). The wood is well present and structures the blend. A bit of smoke, salted green olive, varnish. Light esters that energize this nose. 😋 Oh! Small kick of alcohol though. Intensity of the Herr that gives pep to this nice blend. Red fruits (strawberries and sour cherries in eau-de-vie), something on rose essence. The wood always present. ⛳ Warm, spicy, tannic, leather, citrus, pronounced bitterness. 💡 A blend that shows all the talent of the cellar master. The Savanna spirit is explicit here. Too bad it’s so expensive.

Notes from Whisky Live Paris 2024 — to be reviewed and explored further. Fresh, raisins, cognac of course (but no port, unlike in 2023), with beautiful wood notes. Another very successful absolute that I would have loved to own (even if I prefer 2023), but the price is a little too steep at the moment. A superb welcome at the stand with Cécile, Nadia, and of course Samuel P. A top-notch stand.

A very interesting rum: at first sip, the HERR comes through with its artificial fruit notes and esters. The finish is bitter, dark notes, woody, more in the Guyana direction. Not for easy sipping. Challenging but rewarding.

An interesting rum. I really like the nose because there is a lot to discover here. Typical Savanna notes. On the palate then a lot of cask influence. Dry and spicy. Unfortunately, not much more happens here. Not astringent. A nice rum but I wouldn't want to pay 200€ for it.

The nose is metallic and maybe has something of Cognac. Also on the palate the Cognac note doesn’t leave me. Maybe in a composition with strawberries. Finish relatively pleasant. Tasty drop.

So here I am very pleasantly surprised. For me it is both in aroma and taste spicy (probably slightly peppery) strawberries. Lovely sweetness and also aromaticity (there is one grand aroma in a blend of 5 casks). Taste-wise it is definitely more appealing to me than its green predecessor.

Magnificent nose after a quarter of an hour of resting, candied olives, you can perceive notes of strawberries or red fruit marmalade, with some spicy hints here and there. The alcohol is present but well integrated, the attack is lively, the woody pepper takes over, you feel a certain woodiness that reminds us of a cognac.

Compared to the 2025 version, a bit weaker for me, especially in the nose, but still worth tasting. Strawberry and wood come forward along with spices, quite pronounced tannins in taste and finish. Nicely integrated alcohol.
