Glue and solvent up front, then a wave of tropical fruit — banana, mango, pineapple — with caramel drizzle and toasted coconut husk. This is a low-ester Hampden, so the funk stays gentle. At 60% it runs hot and peppery neat; a few drops of water opens up vanilla cream and softens the burn. Members find it easy-drinking but not remarkable.

#4950 02.11.2024 Had a great tasting with Kim from Romdeluxe with both old and new releases. Nose Light, fresh, light ester, fruity, light wood, faint smoke, sweet, light menthol, faint vegetal. Palate Smooth, light, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, light pineapple, sweet, light vegetal, light caramel, light menthol. Finish Medium to long, light wood, light citrus, faint caramel, light menthol, light chocolate, faint floral. A pretty nicely balanced release where the ABV is hardly felt at all.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die."

3rd place and thus the last place of my little MJH3 tasting. This one was very flat, little power, the finish shorter than the competition. As a daily sipper top, but not for the current issue price!

Aftertaste GRF Nose initially fruity but without the typical Jamaican funk. Light leathery notes on the palate with little sweetness. Quite alcoholic, for me too alcoholic and peppery. Not positive but not negative either, rating is like the rum, meaningless 😀

Well, well not my first ever Jamaican rum but I suppose it’s one of my first “proper” Jamaican rums I’ve had and I have to say I like it! On the nose, I’m getting the usual notes of glue/solvents, some tropical fruits for sure (banana, mango and a little pineapple) alongside some caramel (or honey) drizzle over the top of said fruits alongside some toasted oak as well On the palate, it’s pretty much the same however the toasted element isn’t so much oak as it is something else (toasted coconut husk perhaps?) as well as it being cheek-pinching astringency although I suppose that’ll be the ABV more than anything else I’ve kept half the dram as I wanna try it again at home once I can add a couple drops of water to see if it releases some juiciness or other elements maybe?! For now though, neat, it’s a solid 8/10 - complex yet easy to get on with, doesn’t fight your senses and provides a melancholic experience, especially when your sitting at a hotel room balcony overlooking a Scottish coastline with the waves rolling on up the beach on a partially sunny day! Fantastic stuff 🥃 29/8/2025 - had the remaining sample (25ml) in the glass today and after a couple of small sips neat, I added 7.5ml of water into the rum and this has transformed this rum from a big grits of Jamaican rum to something VERY similar to 8YO: - Banana, vanilla cream, sour pineapple, lush and velvety mouthfeel, citrus, some lovely coconut husk, oak and some mild baking spice. This has utterly transformed the rum and improved it so much I’m bumping the score to 9/10
