Wow... Exciting. Reminds me a lot of unstored or short-stored DOKs or HGMLs from Hampden. But at 600 esters, we're still within a tolerable range. However, the rum doesn't offer much more character in its current state, which is not entirely surprising for WIRD. But I am sure that with further tropical ageing, a beautiful rum will emerge here. So I see the whole thing as a good basis.

Weird combo between a long pond and a Fijian rum. There are a lot of esters here, but just fierce and without being interesting. Plus, at some point I noticed some kind of honey sweetness, and some far smoke. I'm not liking it enough to score a good review.

Edit: RumX Advent Calendar 2024 Day 19 Only had it in my glass a few days ago and didn't recognize it 😭 Stick with it, when Plantation/Planteray try something outside their commercial range it's really delicious, unfortunately it's all too rare. I have to admit that I also like it very much blind Who would have thought that I would really like another Planteray. High Ester hits the nail on the head again, that part is really funky. I'd really like to see more bottlings like this from them.

This High Ester is an intense bottling that reminds me of the Stades Jaws. Here, too, I first had the feeling of having a Hampden in my glass. On the palate, things are put into perspective again. I like these WIRD's and I think there's more exciting stuff coming soon

#4936 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Intense, faint wood, ester, polish, fruity, overripe, light pineapple, faint coconut. Palate Intense, warm, ester, medium dry, fruity, overripe, light pineapple, light banana, spice, faint caramel, light wood, faint smoke. Finish Long and warm, light wood, ester, faint honey, faint coconut, faint caramel. This was a very nice rum and something new 😊

RumX Advent Calendar, day 19. Fresh fruits pineapple and banana on the nose, but also a pastry side and cedar wood. Esters, but controlled. The palate is classic, balanced and fruity. The aromas are ample. Here too the esters are tamed, supporting the fruits. The finish is long and the wood is very well integrated, all aromas end together in this splendid finish. A rum that has everything to please: power, fruitiness, complexity and length.

RumX Advent calendar post-tasting. Delicious, a great caramel and nut (cashew) component joins what is known as a high ester. Also nice and buttery. I like it and with its not too high ester range it is also easy to drink.

8,7:On the nose, strong esters bump into our face, we find tropical fruits with toasted coconut and pineapple, the wood is roasted with almond, caramel, roasted nuts, toffee, spicy with vanilla and there is some glue. On aeration, citrus is out, the molasses becomes vegetal.The fruits are now dried also, there is a banana, pleasant candied fruits and honey pastry. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is estery, with lot different type of fruits like tropical with banana, pineapple, coconut, yellow fruits, citrus.The wood is roasted, dry with nuts, caramel, chocolate and spicy with creamy vanilla. After a while, the fruits are dried with raisins, figs.There are some solvents. When peaches join in and round up our tasting, the rum becomes delicious.The molasses gives us a shade of vegetal notes. 8,6:The finish is long, dry, esters are here, all the notes from palate, it becomes earthy, still balanced and now spicy with some clove.

RumX Calendar 2024 Day 19: Smells like Jamaica again, esters and fruit, but reasonably tame. Much more intense in the mouth, more ester notes and acidity, fermented fruit. Medium-long finish, dry, astringent, intense. Tropically aged. Very tasty! Rather not HD, maybe New Yarmouth?

Very wild and exciting funky high ester Barbados! Full fruit power. Overripe banana and pineapple, some blackberry and blackcurrant, butyric acid, plenty of glue, strawberry chewing gum and fruit bread. Positively surprised, I urgently have to try it in a daiquiri! Curious what will come here in the future!

Whisky Live Paris 2024 (trade fair rating, only overall score and personal purchase recommendation): Interesting, maybe still a bit young, but with potential. I bought a bottle on site so I wouldn't go home empty-handed. Addendum: Tasted at home after a longer time in peace and I have to lower the rating. It remains an interesting experiment, but the alcohol is not well integrated and the different elements are not balanced.

RX calendar 24: reminds me of a high ester HD, but what stands out to me here is the glue-solvent note (turpentine substitute). With more aging, I also find that the Cognac finish is noticeable. On the palate a bit scratchy/sharp, but I like the long finish.

RumX Advent calendar 2024 day 19. A great highlight ester from Planteray. On the nose a nice ester smell as well as tropical fruits. On the palate, nail polish and solvents come in. Alcohol very well integrated.

Whisky Live 2024 trade fair bottling. Wow, a real surprise! Hampden associations clearly emerge on the nose and palate. Amazingly round and "drinkable" despite its relatively young age (2 years). I'm really looking forward to the "High Ester future" from Barbados. 🚀

A WIRD that goes off the beaten track and offers a true bajan rum in high ester. The nose is a veritable concentrate of esters of all kinds (nail polish, solvents, glue) with opulent notes of butter and cream. Tropical fruit and lime zest only confirm this funky, intense yet well-rounded manifestation. A little caramel, spice and wood try to break through the overwhelming medicinal dominance. The rum gains even more intensity on the palate. Tropical fruit (banana, pineapple) and citrus (lime) are charming alongside the medicinal and dairy notes, which are as lively and dominant as ever. Bourbon and wood try to break through the esters, but to no avail. There's a certain astringency that's not unpleasant in this heavy, funky setting. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish follows the current pattern and prolongs the pleasure for a long, pleasant moment. The spices and wood are a little more present on the finish, the rest being governed mainly by the medicinal notes of the esters and the exotic fruit. A real surprise from this bottler, offering a remarkable profile for its young age.

Day 19 of the RumX Advent calendar: A very multi-layered rum! Especially in the mouth there is a rapid change of aromas from initially astringent esters to tropical fruits, which are caught up by toasted, roasted wood notes and culminate in a very pleasant mix of natural raisin sweetness with fruity accents and nutty chocolate hints. Only the fine finish could be a bit more intense and longer for my taste.

On the nose the full blast of high ester with glue, lacquer, and solvents. Plus spices, some alcohol. On the palate then somewhat disappointing and somehow meaningless. Spices, glue, esters, a hint of dried fruit, but somehow not really harmonious.

I am pleasantly surprised by the High Ester bottling from the West Indies distillery. Nose reminiscent of Hampden. Fruity, nutty and toasty on the palate. The ester notes are moderate. Also quite round for 2 years.

Unlike the parallel tasted 1 year older bottling, I can only perceive in the finish here that it is a Barbados rum. Here the esters dominate, somewhat lacking complexity.

Ein leckerer Rum. Der erste Impuls war dreckiger, süffiger Long Pond. Ich kenne aber leider keinen süffigen Long Pond. Daher zweite Idee, dass es ein Blend ist. Das würde die sehr hohe Aromen Vielfalt erklären. Eine tolle Mischung aus Ester, Frucht und karamelligen Noten. So oder so. Lecker, sehr zugänglich und dabei schön komplex. Alkohol irgendwo bei 55-60%. Tropische Lagerung war dabei. Das es ein Barbados ist... hät ich nicht mit gerechnet. Sorry Leute. Wat ist hier los 😅😅🙈🙈

Oh yes, the esters jump right into my nose here. Very nice after about five minutes in the glass a fascinating chewing gum note. I like it. Of course young rum but very exciting. On the palate, the rum falters a bit but comes back very strong at the end with a great slightly sweet fruit mix. As others have already written here (Hello Leo, thanks for this split 😁) this is a great promising base and we can be curious what will come in the future.👌

An extremely tasty and above all interesting rum, which already draws attention with its title, since the usual high ester bombs are rather known from Jamaica! Nose: Glue, pineapple, fruity, tasty, without overwhelming. On the palate, a fruit basket full of tropical fruits, alcohol very well integrated. Finish is dry, fruity and slightly astringent.

I like this rum a lot because of the harmony between the different aspects of it. Jamaica upfront and Barbados in the back somehow with a very clear vanilla and coconut note in the finish. Only 2 years old… this stuff has potential.

Blind tasting Advent calendar 2024: the nose has plenty of esters and tropical fruits. Pineapple and adhesives. On the palate surprisingly chocolate and vanilla. Wow... A great experience. Totally my taste.

RumX Advent calendar day 19. On the nose, it immediately reminds me with its intense lemongrass note of a New Yarmouth. On the palate wonderfully round and fruity and creamy, with many tropical fruits like pineapple and lemongrass at the start, immediately followed by coconut. For the alcohol, I would guess 55-60%, wonderfully integrated, but a bit of water does it good. On the finish then nicely with coconut, vanilla and lemongrass. Really a great rum, I'd love to have a bottle. I strongly guess a New Yarmouth similar to the CDI New Yarmouth 12y for Germany.

Tag 19 RumX Adventskalender Sehr lecker High Ester Rum von Barbados. Unfassbar was da alles möglich wäre für Plantaray. Tolle Ester mit einer unglaublich intensiven Mischung aus süße karamelligen Noten mit Keksteig sowie Vanille. Sehr lecker aber noch etwas wild. Ich finde es aber mega spannend!

Notes from Whisky Live Paris 2024 - to be reviewed. Exceptional masterclass by Alexandre Gabriel. This high ester reminded me of my recent JAWS, with the balance a little less on the olive. I really liked it - well buttered and not at all dry for just 2 years.

A nose that gets better minute by minute. On the palate okay. For a Barbados, a refreshing novelty that I would like to taste more of in the future, but especially smell. Very interesting!

RumX Advent calendar 2024 door number 19. What smells fruity and almost boringly Jamaican on the nose develops on the palate into a wonderfully balanced taste experience, where fruit and wood together with a slight sweetness are in perfect proportion.

Tasted blind and I would have bet on a Hampden loaded with esters, like <>H. I found it more indulgent, less fruity than usual, but I would never have thought of a Word HIGH esters. Nice. I would like to taste it with a few degrees less despite a superb integration of the alcohol.

This rum brings an interesting addition to the high ester WIRD distillates, standing alongside Hogo Monster, JAWS & others. The nose kicks off with a bold mix of tropical fruits, citrus & nail polish and glue character. On the palate, I got overripe pineapple and blackcurrant, sweet caramel, also some spicy notes. The finish is warm and sweet, highlighting tropical notes. While it’s a solid effort for WIRD, it doesn’t exactly blow me away. Good, but not quite a game-changer.

Yay, this smells nice and really estery, like Jamaica. It's a great perfume. It's got a great taste. Combination of Jamaican esters, tropical fruits and HERR madness. It goes straight to the finish. Finally something decent from Plantation.

Well, with its high ester versions, WIRD really blurs the usual landmarks! Tasted blind, I immediately thought: another Jamaican! But actually no! The notable difference for me is the more pronounced soft side.

The nose is misleading: typical Jamaica esters. In the mouth, esters but not Jamaica. More strawberry, reminds me of HERR 57, though not as brutal. The taste unfortunately fades very quickly. At the back, the rum is brutally dry and astringent. Very long finish, but more esters with herbal notes. With standing time and several sips, the rum gets better and better. Already interesting for the aging time.

Quite a crazy one here. Ester meets solvent and some rubber, at least on the nose. On the palate then a punch of ester, fruit and still solvent. Alcohol is well integrated.
