South Pacific Planteray Fiji Pot Still Foundation 2001
The crowd landed firmly in the "very good" camp, even if a few say it doesn't top the best of the 2001 Fiji vintage. Pipe tobacco leads the nose, trailed by caramelised banana, ripe pineapple and that unmistakable Fiji glue-and-rubber DNA. The palate turns darker — menthol, black cherry, cassis, strong unsweetened coffee — before a bright, minty finish. At 51% the proof sits just right.

#4934 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, fruity, light ester, spice, light banana, faint floral. Palate Round, light, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, light ester, medium dry, faint cherry, faint rubber, faint leather, light spicy. Finish Medium long, round, fruity, light cherry, banana, faint smoke, faint rubber, light spicy.

Interesting "wild" Fiji pot still. The nose brought me a mix of anise, tobacco, glue, and smoky notes, layered with fruity hints like banana and sour currants. On the palate, a woody base, touches of leather, and a blend of tropical fruits, including guava and mango. The finish is refreshingly bright, leaning towards a subtle minty touch that adds a surprising freshness to the end. Overall, it’s a cool expression with a bold profile and lively, almost invigorating finish.

Somewhat crazy 2001 Fiji - surprising pipe tobacco notes on the nose. Fruity and jammy on the finish. Delicious, but not at the level of the top class of the vintage.

Richtig guter, typischer Fiji-Rum.

Very good Fiji from 2001, looking forward to the cross-tasting with other representatives of the vintage.
