One taster summed it up as a "really good JM," and that fits: a 9-year Martinique agricole at 54.8% that leans dry and woody. Expect fresh sugarcane, candied orange and zest, plenty of spice (pepper, ginger, nutmeg) over a noble oak, with a green vegetal edge. More bite than JM's earlier releases, but the alcohol sits well integrated.

#4867 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Light, fresh, fruity, light vegetal, spice, sugarcane, light wood. Palate Light, light wood, round, vegetal, light floral, fruits, light orange, light sugarcane, spice, medium dry. Finish Medium long, light wood, light dried fruit, light orange, , vegetal, medium dry. This is also a pretty young release but has more bite than the 2016 release. I'd say there is a bit more umph in this release, but I do still prefer the 15 year old ones from the 80s.

RHUM JM 9 years 2014 Single Barrel #170350 Foundations 54.8%, AGRICOLE RUM, FRANCE/MARTINIQUE. A nose a bit too heady for me, from the first moments I knew it unfortunately wouldn’t be my style – more for you then. Earthy, woody notes, too much ginger, I’m simply looking for something else when drinking rum at the moment. Surely a rich, powerful, and interesting juice if you like JM profiles at a similar age statement.

A young but seasoned JM profile, expressing itself on the nose through various exotic yellow fruits, dried (raisin) and candied. You can detect a luscious, sugar-laden cane, as well as spices (chili, pepper, nutmeg, vanilla) spread over rather noble wood. The olfactory profile is quite round and airy, granting it lightness to the nostrils. The attack on the palate is drier, more vegetal with notes of aromatic herbs. Citrus, especially orange, takes over the fruity part, while the spices and wood keep their flair. The profile is balanced aromatically and the alcohol is very well integrated into the profile. The finish, of correct length, remains just as dry but rich in aromas. It oscillates between spices, the agricultural and vegetal side but also fruits (orange, dried and tropical fruits) and a touch of salt that brings quite a bit of elegance at the end of the mouth. A solid JM, pleasant and sure to delight lovers of agricultural rums more intense than usual.

Quite a surprising nose blend, dried fruits, indulgence and woodiness, and in the middle of all that, a note of freshly shelled peas/green beans (yes, you had to look for that one...). The palate is candied with orange and its zest coated in maple syrup. The finish is enhanced with coffee and cocoa powder as well as winter spices.

Very interesting rum. On the nose lots of wood and spices as well as a hint of honey. On the taste again many spices and especially pepper comes out in the aftertaste. Even slightly sharp. I like it.
