Made for people already deep into cane-juice esters and Mhoba's glue-and-varnish signature. The nose throws passion fruit, banana and pineapple over fresh, grassy cane, with roasted wood behind it. At 61.5% it turns hot and spicy fast. One taster caught mostly "colle et solvant" up front before caramel softened it. Divisive even among Mhoba fans — several rate it a step below the distillery's better bottles.

8,5:On the nose, esters and vegetal notes overwhelm our nosetrils for a second, the wave coming after is fruity with citrus, overripe pineapple and raisins, sugar cane is herbaceous then, fresh, there are medicinal notes, buttery tones follow with honey, pastry, caramel, as the wood is roasted, spicy.Oxidation brings strawberry yoghurt note. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is balanced with honey sugarcane, herbaceous, roasted wood notes like caramel, pastry, biscuits, spicy with vanilla and a bit smoky, esters and fruits like pineapple, banana, orange. 8,6:The finish is long, dry and tannic, medicinal with esters, rubber, the cane is sweet with honey, fresh with grass, vegetal. We have overripe tropical fruits and citrus, roasted, smoky and spicy wood with caramel, nuts, leather, pepper and confectionery in the end...

Today I compared the two Mhoba Kigelia and Imbasha against each other. Thanks to Rod for the split. As I've had the Mhoba Ingwe and the Flag South Africa in my glass recently, I'm sorry to say that the two tasted today couldn't reach the same level. For me personally, the Imbasha is slightly ahead.

Also a nice Mhoba, lots of ester on the nose, also very fresh and vegetal before the citrus fruits appear. On the palate also lots of ester and also very fruity, especially pineapple can be recognized.

Tasting the Mhoba New Vibrations: All three have those terrific Mhoba wood varnish ester notes. Imbasha: A delicious rum, but in a direct comparison with Mhoba it falls very far short. No complexity, bitter-woody, seems watered down. 76 pts. Kigelia: more complex in the west, more fruity and better balanced. 84 pts. Ingwe: Oh yes! that's the winner! great piece! Very fruity, with a lot of wood influence and wood varnish. Complex, every sip sends you on a journey of discovery. 90 pts. the Ingwe should be included in a best-of-Mhoba tasting. It will be a feast

I teresting Mhoba release with a great balance of fruit, esters, caramel, spiciness and a medicinal, mentholated finish. Really not bad and very similar/equivalent to the older (better rated) bottlings. the profile is very recognizable and just wears off a bit, which I think explains the mediocre ratings. I find it delicious.

A young dynamic Mhoba that is easily approachable compared to other rums in the range. The nose offers a medicinal, buttery, well-spiced (chili) and vegetal frame on undergrowth and mushrooms. There are also hints of ripe pineapple, caramel, and light wood. The profile is engaging and captivating for the nostrils. The mouth is pleasant, with tropical ripe fruits and citrus, but also the medicinal, fermented, buttery and esterified side of the South African profile. Slightly candied sugarcane meets spices (cardamom), wood and smoke to build a round and balanced rum. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is rather short but does not lack charm and aromas between its sweet and honeyed notes, citrus, spicy wood, animal leather and medicinal, herbal, rubbery and plastic notes. The finish is intense but unfortunately too fleeting. Nevertheless, it remains a good rum that enjoys a nice balance between aromas, structure and pleasure.

#4869 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light wood, raisin, light caramel, light vegetal, light pineapple, faint earthy, light citrus, light ester. Palate Round, light, fresh, medium intense, light ester, fruity, light citrus, faint pineapple, faint caramel, light wood, faint smoke. Finish Medium long, fresh, light ester, light wood, fruits, light citrus, faint grass, faint leather. Another easy drinkable release that I think most would be able to drink once rested.

Third South African rum of the evening and I recognize the pattern of the previous two: vegetal, esters, power, chili. Like the impression of a pure Jamaican juice. It promises to be lively! And it is. The degrees are definitely there, it's hot and powerful. Caramelized, woody, banana. Too strong for me. Nice length.

I remain quite mixed on this tasting. Usually esters don’t bother me, but here on the nose it’s hard to catch anything other than glue and solvent. On the palate the esters fade quite quickly, the rum softens on a slight caramel, some spices, a little rooty side too. Gentle finish. I expected longer.

Color: amber Smell: Fruity ester aromas can be smelled from afar. Smells very sweet and extremely fruity with passion fruit, banana and pineapple, cotton candy and gummy candy. In the background some balsa wood. Smells very delicious. Taste: Very sweet and fruity in the mouth. Then it becomes sharp. When swallowing, additionally spicy and woody. Finish: Very long and warming. Fruity, woody and spicy-alcoholic. Dry in the aftertaste. 88 points
