Dark chocolate and roasted wood lead, wrapped in raisins, dates and a creamy, oily body that many call rounder and tamer than its CBH sibling. A whiff of varnish and licorice keeps it interesting, and a natural sweetness carries through without going flat. The finish dries out with tannins, coffee and a pleasant bitterness. 26.10.2025 Part 1 Today we have an El Dorado Rare Cask online tasting and I've been looking forward to it. I will keep the score and just enjoy the rums and I have all of them on my shelves as well. ---------------- If you take all of the rums in the El Dorado Rare Collection, then this one is the bottom one. Not saying it's bad though, it's still a really good zip 😊

Compared to the CBH 98 Diamond, this one feels noticeably tamer, milder, and rounder. Milk chocolate, cinnamon, allspice, mint leaves, and dried raisin and date with cinnamon, as well as sour apricot and generally an unusually high acidity. Extremely delicious, balanced, and complex. But the CBH is definitely more "in your face" and much more complex and fuller-bodied than this one. However, that's nitpicking at a high level – this is really a great Diamond!

In crosstasting with the CBH, it is much tamer and not as complex, but overall it has an elegant, pleasant and exquisite variety of flavors that easily compensates for this! For me, they are of equal value, each in its own way.

Great nose! Needs a little time to breathe, but unfolds superbly. Creamy, spicy and intense on the palate. However, it lacks the complexity of its CBH sister cask for a top rating.

Beautiful Diamond which in my opinion is also rated a little too low. Rich nose on a sticky raisin base with lots of wood, chocolate, candied fruit, a few roasted almonds and very light coconut. Very tasty on the palate and a pleasant bitterness on the finish. Similar to the CBH but more schoonolade and caramel and less glue and coconut - actually like a CBH with a dash of Albion

Franconian Tasting Gang on 19.04.2024 Today's opponent is once again the El Dorado Diamond RX5934. Somehow both very good and similar, but still very different (quote: Serge). A paradox;-) For me, this one is just ahead.

A hard-to-get rum that is anything but "just good." Compared to RX5934 El Dorado Diamond, here the coconut/lacquer nose is less prominent, instead there's an extremely round and roasted chocolate/vanilla/honey combination that delivers a complex impression through additional aromas. An intense mouthfeel marked by bitter substances and sour fruits seems somewhat unbalanced, but still tasty. Excellent rum!

9,2:On the nose, the first impression we get is minty molasses&roasted wood, as it is round from the beginning until the end of our tasting.The molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, the wood is nutty, covered with candied caramel and chocolate. Fruity notes are pleasant, dried at first with dates, raisins, apricots.Varnish also warms our nosetrils. On aeration, citrus notes are stronger with an orange, so is cherry, peach and some prunes.Instead of chocolate, darker cocoa arises, the molasses becomes more vegetal, earthy with some tobacco. 9,2:On the palate, the attack is round, full bodied and delicious with roasted wood notes and dried fruits.The woody notes are creamy, like chocolate or caramel filled with nuts, spicy with cinnamon, as the fruits are raisins, dates, prunes and apricots.With rest, the molasses goes deep in the dark with licorice and black tea, rum is sweeter as before with Demerara sugar and candied caramel, cocoa and leather join, so do orange peel, coconut, as faint minty notes. 9:The finish is long, still delicious, less creamy, dryer, tannic with palate notes lingering on, with coffee addition, earthy.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang 19.04.2024 Tasted together with the El Dorado Diamond CBH RX5934. The relationship is clear, but the DMD with less glue and more chocolate. The CBH has more coconut as well as glue. Overall, a neck and neck race for me. DMD perhaps a little more accessible, CBH a little more elegant.

Demerara cross tasting 28.04.24 A great nose, varnish and nail polish with plums and raisins, plus some wood. A style really close to armagnac, or to some foursquare with cognac finish, but this is a plus and not a minus. Drink side every note found on the nose is still there, unfortunately some tannins and a kind of bitterness emerge reducing my appreciation. Overall still a great rum!

Very nice rum from the El Dorado Rare Collection, which definitely shows the tropical aging. Great influences of spices, light sweetness and a slight hint of varnish. Overall very round with a nice finish. Still slightly behind the CBH.

Another gem from the El Dorado Rare collection series! A Diamond Demerara with substance both on the nose and palate. Less powerful than the Diamond CBH but still complex enough and very pleasant, I would never want to stop drinking it. Full-bodied and persistent finish!

Very nice, round and at the same time complex Diamond. Fruit notes and sweetness hold back and leave the field to dark aromas. Primarily dark chocolate, wood, allspice, cinnamon, as well as tobacco and black tea.

Very accessible profile with plenty of column still stylistics: oak wood, caramel, milk chocolate, spices, pastry notes, slightly vegetal. Carried by a great natural sweetness without the complexity becoming too flat. Not a giant of aromas, but wonderfully balanced and never boring at any point. Compared directly with the El Dorado Diamond 1998 CBH, the palate feels a bit less expressive but offers a very harmonious, almost creamy oiliness that provides a lot of drinking pleasure. Very good.

The woody licorice on the nose develops on the tongue into a chocolatey delight. Really surprising. A slight sweetness on top and done is the chocolate cake. Great Diamond! But it’s not quite enough for the top ten… something is missing.

The nose is very greedy and pastry, it is light in mouth. We are clearly on a molasses rum. We find some nice woody, minty freshness but especially beautiful candied fruits. We are clearly on caramel with raisins! A very promising nose on the good fruit cake of grandma. In the mouth, it is round ... too round for this type of range of rum. We find elegant woody, nuts, empyreumatic notes but especially fruit marmalade. It is chocolate and caramelized in profusion! The finish draws on coconut, coffee, spices.
