Louder than most Hampdens on the sherry, quieter on the funk — that's the trade here. The cask piles on dark berries, sour cherry and a bitter-chocolate edge, while the usual glue and ester notes hide behind it. Ripe pineapple and banana still poke through, and at 60.5% it runs hot but well integrated. Whether the sherry lifts it or buries the Jamaican is exactly what drinkers argue about.

In my opinion, a successful bottling, which, however, lags behind the Pagos bottlings. Very great fruity, fresh nose, whereby the ester and glue notes are rather hidden. Sour cream, cinnamon and fine licorice notes join in on the palate. The finish is medium long. The alcohol is well integrated.

Oweia, what kind of bottling is this? I had two HLCFs from Hampden from 2010 in my glass before, but it can't have been because of them that this one goes down like this. It had something really angular in the nose and mouth, which goes far beyond the musty overtones. I'll give it another chance soon, but right now it's not working at all.

#4860 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, light chocolate, light herbal, light citrus, light nutts, light roasted wood. Palate Warm, medium intense, fresh, fruits, light citrus, faint floral, light nutts, faint chocolate, light herbal, cinnamon. Finish Long and warm, fruits, light wood, dried fruit, light chocolate, faint mint, faint citrus. This is a nice rum and I need to retaste it because I think it needs to rest longer than I could at the event.

Here we have another Hampden with a sherry finish. They seem to be coming onto the market more and more since 2024. Some of them have a very strong influence. In this case, an absolutely extreme one! You can only taste Hampden a little in the start and finish in the form of notes of glue and esters. The rum is very sweet with a musty sour cherry note. Quite delicious, but so barrel-laden and sweet that I find it very difficult to rate it. Depending on my mood on the day, my rating will probably always fluctuate around +-5 points.

Tasted twice in sample form, including once blind. No problem identifying Jamaica and Hampden. There's a strong influence from the cask that gives it a bitter cherry and roasted side. I really like the level of esters, the waxy notes, and the length.

Not even that good. For me, unworthy of the Habitation Velier series. Present bitter note. A little better in May Tai, but not a good bottling for me.

Habitation Velier Hampden LROK ex-sherry cask 2019 A little Hampden to finish this tasting. 60.5° for this one. A fairly strong amber color for a Hampden. On the nose, esters but light, typical of LROK. The sherry cask brought a lot of roundness with dark fruits: blackberries, blackcurrants. You clearly sense the typical Hampden smokiness, and little by little (not immediately) the brine. Quite tannic on the nose, it will be more so later on the palate as well. On the tongue, this English rum is quite controlled on the funky side and the alcohol is well integrated. Warm, it is rounded by the sherry which gives it aromas of black berries but also a darker side than many Hampdens. The smokiness is there but without the grilled fish or smoked meat side. However, the olives are definitely present, black, with a little vinegar note. The brine accompanies us at the end of the palate in a fairly long finish. You find the common Hampden markers with some variations. I don't like olives. 😒

Small series tasting: RX22310 and RX21809 are unusual Hampdens with strongly fermented fruit and sour notes. Both very similar, but RX21809 stands out for me with particularly unpleasant impressions. So these two guys didn't get to me at all.

7,9:On the nose, medicinal with esters, fermented tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus fruits, red with cherry, dairy notes like yoghurt, sherry barrel impact is obvious, slightly sulphurous, leather is there, roasted wood notes, spicy with allspice, intense, bump into our nosetrils, a bit imbalanced. On aeration, molasses is earthy, vegetal with briny olive, herbaceous, nuts and chocolate join. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is intense with medicinal notes like esters, warm spicy roasted wood and caramel, confectionery, smoky, vegetal molasses with briny olive, herbaceous, green, sweet with honeycomb, sherry barrel impact is obvious, fruits are fermented with banana, pineapple, citrus and red with strawberry, sour cherry. 8,1:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, fruity with tropical, citrus, red and dried fruits, chemical and medicinal, funky, molasses is vegetal, minty, grassy, sweet with honey and the wood roasted with caramel, chocolate, roasted nuts, leather, spicy with allspice, meaty with bacon, smoky, sherry barrel impact is strong..

This Habitation Velier Hampden rum is a very good tasting rum. The nose, rather fruity and woody, is enhanced by beautiful esters. The palate is warm and intense, with fruity and ester notes. The finish, rather long, is in the same vein, fruity, woody and warm.

Das es ist ein Hampden nach meinen Geschmack. Reichlich tropische Früchte in der Nase, sowie am Gaumen. Ananas und Banane lassen sich hier erkennen. Leckerer Hampden, auf jeden Fall würdig mal sagen:)

And once again a Hampden drowned in a sherry cask. Too sweet for my taste. The sherry overpowers the Hampden. From memory, I would say that the Hampden came through slightly better in the Pagos.

Pleasantly fruity on the nose. Not particularly harmonious on the palate, however. For my taste, the sherry content is not particularly compatible with the LROK. The finish is very short given the young age. Compared to the sherry LROK Single Cask for the French market, this is also not a recommendation to buy, even if I find this one less bad. But definitely no comparison with a Hampden Pagos or an FRC HLCF with sherry content. In my opinion, nobody needs these very young Hampdens with sherry maturation.

Un bon hampden plus sur le fruit et moins funky avec beaucoup de force. Après un peu de temps pour s'ouvrir, nez très hampden, fruit mûr, colle, un peu funky. Attaque forte, de l'acidité. Ananas. Un peu de chocolat ? Belle finale sur le fût, assez tanique. Laisse une chaleur agréable 2e dégustation, à l'aveugle. Je le trouve meilleur que dans mon souvenir. 8.2 > 8.4

For me this is a case where the super intense sherry finish is just too much and overwhelming the rum‘s character too much. Thick and very sweet the Lustau is clearly taking the driver seat. However, there is als a sulfuric note lingering in the background, which isn’t really enjoyable.

A rather sweet Hampden with lots of brown undertones from the sherry. Complex and elegant, but maybe not at the very top of Hampden expressions. The fruits are more brown and stewed than normal, but otherwise the buttery fruit and cream Hampden character is there.

It's very specific rum. I think, it's a bad experiment. Too much sherry, bad influence on the rum... Nose: pungent, sour noter of brine, fermented and even rotten tomatoes, lot of sherry, oak, of course the esters. Some red fruits, berries, herbals. Hint of pecan nut. Strange aroma... Palate: Sour, intense. Taste is better, but still strange influence of sherry. Bitter notes, esters, dark chocolate, dark berries, herbals, solvents. Some metallic notes. Not for all. Aftertaste: long, bitter, herbals, esters, dark berries.... I don't like this one. Bed experiment

Banana cream, some black currant. Sherry. Pungent ester aroma. Pours clear mahogany. Lots more tart berry in the mouth, blueberry maybe, blackberry. Long aftertaste with lingering pepper. A hint of mosquito spray sticks on the tongue, an imperfection for me but not a serious one. A lot to love about this,

On the nose and on the palate, the sherry finish seems to have been way too long. The sherry, almost sickly sweet, killed the Hampden. Surprising to release such a mediocre juice under the HV banner. Aren't there any other casks worth it?!
