This Jamaican rum blend strikes a perfect balance of the island’s signature funk. The nose and palate showcase classic notes of pineapple, banana, and a touch of nail polish remover, yet all are beautifully restrained and harmonious. Lightly aged, the wood influence is subtle, allowing the round, fruity character to shine. There's little spice, but an explosion of dried pineapple takes center stage, delivering a tropical intensity that lingers. Mid-palate, a surprising salty, nutty note emerges, adding depth before a long, satisfying finish. Incredibly enjoyable and offered at an amazing price—this is a rum worth seeking out.

Very nice Jamaican blend. Intense and funky on the nose as well as on the palate. Tropical fruits and cookie dough are dominating. The relatively young age brings a vibrant rum to the table yet the tropical maturation clearly shows, providing a balanced profile between age and playfulness. In contrast to the Hapden/WP Papalin bottling, here I see the upper hand clearly with the higher ABV bottling. Dilution clearly reduced intensity and funk particularly on the nose.

#4870 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, faint wood, fruity, light citrus, spice, light roasted, light pineapple, faint floral, ester. Palate Warm, round, balanced, faint wood, light roasted, light citrus, light banana, spice, naturally sweet, medium dry. Finish Medium long, fresh, round, fruity, light citrus, faint chocolate, medium dry, faint smoke, ester. This one is slightly better than the lower ABV release and it shows how flavours change when you add water.

A Jamaican Blend that's affordable on every level, both in terms of price and quality. The nose is funky and fruity from the outset, with esters, nail polish, solvents, pineapple, banana, citrus and olive. The profile is fresh and generous, followed by a softer veil of wood, caramel, marzipan and cookie dough. It's not the most complex profile, but it has its own character. The profile stiffens on the palate with warmer, spicier and more mineral notes. The drier tone and salt note add character. Roasted oak gains ground, complementing the fruit. Esters remain powerful, reflecting the blend that makes up this rum. However, the freshness of the nose has disappeared. The alcohol is rather well integrated into this rather rough and vigorous profile. The finish is not the longest, but offers fine tannins that embellish the palate with roasted wood, exotic fruit and esters. The whole is dry, warm, medicinal and harmonious. A versatile young rum that makes an excellent "daily sipper" thanks to its aromatic diversity and rich terroir.

And then a Jamaican High Rster, but somehow it doesn't quite get through to me. Lots of tropical fruits, especially banana and pineapple, also some ester, but this fermented taste is a bit off-putting.

So far, the Papalins have not really convinced me across the board. The Jamaica High Ester changes this a little. A young Jamaican that offers fine fruit notes, light cookie dough, toasty, wood and a subtle smokiness on the nose. Dry on the palate, pineapple, citrus fruits and spices. The medium-long finish is a little weaker. However, it remains dry throughout and offers plenty of ester.

At least this one offers a great value for money. Cookie dough and lots of pineapple. Pleasant, slightly creamy mouthfeel. The alcohol is very well integrated, making this a well-rounded package overall. Also good for newcomers to the high-ester category.

A great experience with Club Lille rum. Quite a lot of esters without being a bomb, nice exotic fruits, especially pineapple, some spices at the end to spice up the taste. Medium finish, a little dry perhaps.

Wieder mal eine schöne Velier Papalin Abfüllung. Durfte ihn als special MaiTai zuerst bei DomM probieren. Auch pur gar nicht mal so schlecht. Würde ihn zwar eher als easy Sipper ein ordnen, aber für den Preis mehr als o.k. für zwischendurch.

Papalin Jamaica High Ester full proof. 57° An aromatic bomb for a tiny price! It's funky on the nose with lots of esters, that roasted pineapple, that typically Jamaican fruitiness, with the Hampden mark <>H presence, also Worthy Park and Long Pond. I had already tasted its reduced version which was excellent, but this full proof version is even more powerful. This unbeatable quality-price ratio to discover the Jamaican terroir.

Interesting what just 10% more alcohol makes up compared to the 47%... Where the diluted one is clearly more fruity and sourly creamy sweet, this one is clearly more mineral, salty, smoky and spicy and slightly chocolaty. The esters come across quite differently here. The 47 is better suited for easy sipping and beginners, but the 57 clearly has the edge in terms of complexity.

👃 & 😋 Easy drink, fairly fine concentration of tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, mango, jackfruit) and citrus. The esters are present and do the job for this kind of blend. Nice note of biscuits, spices, roasting of oilseeds. More glue, solvents and varnish on the nose than on the palate. You can detect the presence of green olive and mild tapenade. Palate livelier than the nose. A dry, balanced and funky profile though a bit young. 💡 This Hampden, Long Pond and Worthy Park blend is a good entry into the funky world of Jamaican rums. I prefer the first full proof 7 years (red label version), but this remains a good sipper.

Perfectly balanced low aged blend of three prominent Jamaican houses. Feels like the Long Pond and Hampden largely accent a core of chocolate banana rich WPL—which so happens to be one of my favorite rum marques, so it’s no surprise I love this. Great to sip on and even better in a cocktail. Bought at $50 which is an easy 9/10.

This is a perfect crossover episode, or like a merging of two friend groups who all end up being natural friends. This combination of Jamaican rums is one of the best things I’ve tried all year and I immediately bought a backup. I’m less familiar with the characteristics of Long Pond but I’d say that the bana bread notes of WP and the rotten fruit funk of Hampden are easily recognizable. At this price, and probably for much more, there is not a better rum.

Excellent blend of young Jamaican rums. Aroma inviting, of course pronounced, fruity. Tropical fruit like banana, pineapple, citrus. Some flowers and similar. A bit of spice. The taste basically describes it with a gentle presence of technique (but really little). This funk is rather on the side of overripe fruit. Finish dry, gently long, fruit still lingering. For me, a great drink for the price, can be enjoyed. If someone is looking for fruity and non-technical funk, this is the rum :)

01-03-2025 Can’t quite remember nose and taste. Tasted it at the whisky and rum fair in Kolding. Had no expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Velier when they use their magic. For what it is, this is a really good glas. 500.- dkk is a lot of rum for the money. 11-04-2025 - Rate 7.8

On the nose Sharp, esters, minerality In the palate Esters, saline followed by fruitiness, berry, pineapple, strawberry Finish Not as long as i would like, still the fruitiness from the palate remain some minerality/ olives Pineapple. Overall a really nice rum for the price. Also an amazing Mai tai rum. Very good with the velier papalin worthy park blend. 9/10 Mai tai.

A very nice young Jamaican, with a great color for 5 years. Funky fresh on the nose, initially citrus fruits, cookie dough and varnish, then light spices and young wood follow. The palate is wild and unruly and a bit unbalanced, you can feel the youthfulness of this drop. The sweet cookie dough instantly transforms into strong wood aromas, varnish and bitterness. The nose clearly scores the points here. But for 45€ won (including shipping) a good PGV.

Strong, funky, high-proof Jamaican. The ester-notes lean more in the sour/pineapple direction than banana. The palate is strong with decent funk. The finish is long, fresh with sour notes and subtle smoke and metallicity.

It’s an honest and easy to like Jamaican blend. Nose is unmistakably Jamaican, with fresh esters, pineapple and a lovely cookie dough yeast undertone. On the mouth it’s a little simple, some more glue and esters, lighter tropical fruit and lychee and more of the cookie dough. The finish fades quickly and then persists, with more spice and a little olive and oak. Solid drinker, not quite sure where it fits but an interesting rum

Read full review →I am incredibly impressed. This blend is an excellent example of high ester rums but it doesn’t veer into the overly industrial side of things. Great tropical fruits, spices, and a touch of that weird glue funk to bring it all together. The aroma fills the room as soon as your pour it.
