Most tasters land in the same spot: this is the pick of Velier's second Magnum series, but a few call it "très sage" — well-behaved for a Hampden. Expect big pineapple, ripe tropical fruit, ester and a light young-wood edge, with the 60% alcohol tucked in surprisingly well. Delicious and rounded; just don't expect the wildest, funkiest LROK you've had.

A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024. A powerful pineapple nose, with light wood and esters. The pineapple is also very pronounced on the palate, but with freshness and elegant wood. The finish is short. A delicious rum, but difficult to rate. Should we note the pleasure it offers (great) or its (lack of) originality?

Whisky Live Paris 2024 (trade fair evaluation, only overall rating and personal recommendation to buy): Overall still the best bottling of the second magnum series, but not outstanding. I don't have to have a bottle of it.

Powerful and expressive Hampden, clearly at the top of the Magnum range. Distinctive esters, ripe tropical fruit, light solvent notes and well-integrated alcohol. Remains present for a long time and is a pleasure in the glass.

Insanely intense nose, and on the palate it really kicks off. Spicy, fruity, intense and very round. For me a really great Hampden LROK that proves that low-ester Hampden can be really fun. Profile-wise, for my taste, not unlike a younger Appleton Hearts. For me this Hampden here is totally underrated. If only the high price weren't there...
