A real surprise!

Today the three new bottlings of the Flag Series had to face our noses and palates, this was celebrated together with DomM. For me, the South Africa is the best of the three. The one from Vietnam is rather restrained, but as a mixer with cola it develops a nice fruitiness. The Indonesian is very unusual, but that makes it interesting. Nice to have tried them all.

In the nose we are looking at an agricole style sensation with influence from the cognac cask. I get some sweetness and green apples. Not to intense overall. On the palate I like this quite a bit. Again, rather sweet with a honey like sensation. Towards the finish I get strong a sensation of backed apples and Christmas-y spices (cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg). For me the nices bottling I was able to taste out of the distillery so far.

A surprisingly pleasant Vietnamese rum. The nose is a blend of exotic fruits (citrus and yellow fruits, mango in particular), vegetal and agricultural notes, as well as spicy aromas (chili, nutmeg), walnuts and a rather youthful woodiness. The whole is homogeneous and well structured, very promising for such a young profile. The attack on the palate is rather frank, with dried fruit and citrus fruits, as well as herbaceous notes. Honeyed, floral notes also enhance this dry profile, which gains in spiciness and oakiness with time on the palate. The profile may be pure cane juice, but there's no overdose of agricultural notes, and the flavors are varied and delicious. The alcohol juices the taste buds but is well integrated. The finish is in keeping with the palate. It's rather long, dry, spicy, roasted and vegetal. Dried and tropical fruits are not far behind, along with caramel and vanilla. This is undoubtedly one of LMDW's most striking releases, both in terms of the originality and quality of this young profile from Vietnam, a terroir that holds great promise for the future.

Whisky Live Paris 2024 (trade fair evaluation, only overall rating and personal recommendation to buy): This time three exotics in the Flags series, Vietnam, Indonesia and South Africa. I'm not sure yet whether I want a bottle from Vietnam. In any case, quite interesting.

#4850 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Faint wood, light vegetal, sweet, light grass, faint chocolate, citrus, light nutts. Palate Round, light sweet, light wood, faint floral, light vegetal, spice, light melon, oily, faint chocolate, light caramel. Finish Medium long, light wood, dried fruit, light chocolate, round, spice, light sweet. This was a huge surprise and a well done bottling and I hope for more like this from Vietnam.

I like it much better than the Indonesia from the Flag Series. Grassy aromas, young wood and citrus fruits are the main features here. Slightly astringent and fresh on the palate. A little watery. The finish is short and alcoholic. Delicious! Many thanks @Zabo

Ganz netter Rum.

"This is a very good rum. The dark chocolate flavor really pops out, as does the ginger and brine. The Raspberry is prominent as well. This is good, but the cask dominates the base distillate a little too much for me."Read full review →
