"A strange hybrid between a high-ester Jamaican and an Islay," as one taster put it — and that's the whole story here. Overripe banana and pineapple meet real peat smoke and wood from the whisky cask, all at a big 64.1%. The barrel pushes hard without fully burying the Hampden fruit. Peat lovers grin; several Hampden fans feel the funk gets lost.

Shop visit Rhum Attitude Brussels May 2025. Took a sample. I like it very much after the Nine Leaves. Despite the young age (1 year) lots of Jamaica, tropical fruits (banana and pineapple) as well as esters. Again a bit overripe, but still tasty.

#4861 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Intense, faint wood, ester, fruity, overripe, banana, spice, peat, light smoke, light glue. Palate Intense, ester, light wood, warm, fruity, overripe, banana, faint pineapple, faint nutts, peat, light smoke, dry. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, ester, faint roasted, light smoke, peat, pineapple, medium dry. This is a bomb if you like whisky in my mind, the peated/smoke notes are definitely there and I like smoke. Price to quality can be argued 😊

In the nose, a Jamaican bowl of tropical fruit mixes with peated whisky. The longer it is left to age, the more I feel Jamaican tones. Taste-wise it is not bad at all. Pleasantly sweet and fruity, the finish shows up rather at the end, which is not as intense as I would have expected. For one year aging and high ABV quite okay.

On the nose: i get typical overripe banana from Jamaican Rum, but its mellow. Peat smoke from the barrel and hints of pineapple. Taste: Quite intense and barrel influence is strong but doesnt overtake the rum. First you get peat smoke and wood, but typical overripe banana is present there. This is something you have to work with. Hints of pineapple. Finish: long and strong. In overall, not a everyday sipper. Fans of peaty Scottish whisky should check this out. I am in between of is the barrel taken over the rum or is it just strong and powerfully present.

Tasted at WLP '24. With the whisky finish the Hampden profile is lost for me. They are not working well in my opinion. Very sharp, alcohol is not integrated well. On the nose the typical Hampden notes, but it is also peated.

Intense technical scent, even pungent with a strong hint of smokiness; taste sharp, smoky, fruity. Long finish where the smoke is also very present. At first, I didn't like it but after resting, I have to say it's not bad at all.

Velier Hampden 2023, aged in peated whisky cask, C<>H. A rum both fruity but very peaty on the nose and palate. Again, a very salty character, a strange hybrid between a Jamaican very strong in esters and an Islay like Talisker. A peated whisky lover will love it but it can easily push us out of our comfort zone and our usual rum references.

Very pleasant nose but a really unpleasant palate, the peat doesn't work at all here (and yet I love peaty whisky... and Hampden high esters), the marriage just doesn't work at all.

So many esters with smoke ... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters that make your whole body soak in the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die."
