Velier Hampden Peated Whisky Cask C<>H 2023
"A strange hybrid between a high-ester Jamaican and an Islay," as one taster put it — and that's the whole story here. Overripe banana and pineapple meet real peat smoke and wood from the whisky cask, all at a big 64.1%. The barrel pushes hard without fully burying the Hampden fruit. Peat lovers grin; several Hampden fans feel the funk gets lost.

The look inside the bottle
How does Velier Hampden Peated Whisky Cask C<>H 2023 taste?
Aggregated from 49 community reviews.
Peat-smoked Hampden funk, big and divisive Most land it as a good bottle, not a top-shelf one: the peat-plus-Hampden marriage works if you love smoke, but a real minority feels the cask buries the rum.

#4861 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Intense, faint wood, ester, fruity, overripe, banana, spice, peat, light smoke, light glue. Palate Intense, ester, light wood, warm, fruity, overripe, banana, faint pineapple, faint nutts, peat, light smoke, dry. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, ester, faint roasted, light smoke, peat, pineapple, medium dry. This is a bomb if you like whisky in my mind, the peated/smoke notes are definitely there and I like smoke. Price to quality can be argued 😊

Ve vůni se mísí jamajská mísa tropického ovoce s peated whisky. Čím déle se nechá odležet, tím vice cítím jamajské tóny. Chuťově to není vůbec zlé. Příjemně nasládlé a ovocné, finiš se spíš projeví v závěru, který není zas tak intenzivní jak bych čekal. Na roční zrání a vysoké ABV docela v pohodě.

Very pleasant nose but a really unpleasant palate, the peat doesn't work at all here (and yet I love peaty whisky... and Hampden high esters), the marriage just doesn't work at all.
Review by TheJackDrop
Tasted with live whisky. I really didn't find it interesting, it doesn't work, and you lose the hampden :(

Even though the whisky finish is well integrated, I just can't do much with it.
